Your Top 10 Albums Of The 20th Century
TobyNZ said on May 7, 2003 05:58:
Hi all,
I am writing on behalf of Dean Scapolo, a New Zealand music chart researcher, who is conducting a survey of peoples’ top ten albums of the 20th century (until 2000). He has had 840 votes so far - but can never get enough!!
His website is:
hstrial-dscapolo.homestea...Page1.html
where you can find his list of the top 100 albums he has got (of all his 840 votes) so far.
Here are the rules (VERY IMPORTANT!!):
1) No 21st century albums, this current survey is for 20th century albums only.
2) No Bootleg albums, these are not official albums.
3) Greatest Hits, Live, Compilations and Soundtracks are fine.
4) Show your dversity and try to keep to a maximum of five albums by one artist, with a minimum of four artists per list!
5) TEN albums, no more no less. TEN.
ALSO - We need your NAME and COUNTRY!!! AGE is optional.
Please - this is very important as we cannot use your lists without this information. Nor can we use your lists if they do not follow any of the rules.
Lets see the lists come rolling in!
Remember, you can only have up to FIVE albums from any one artist. That means for example you can have up to FIVE Roxette albums but NO MORE - the rest must be from different artists, with at least FOUR artists in total on your list.
There is no need to include any Roxette albums if you don’t want to. It’s up to you.
Thanks for your time and look forward to hearing from you,
Toby, 20, NZ

Hi,
Thanks Larry, Jackie and Vizxter, I have forwarded your lists on.
Wendy - I CERTAINLY cannot use your list - more than half of it is 21st century albums - this SPECIFICALLY ASKS for 20th century albums (up to and including 2000) only. I ask that you please read the rules carefully and show some diversity in your lists while posting here. I hope you understand that because of this rule we could not accept your list.
animalkingdom - great list, but we need your name and country - so please send that in so I can forward your list on? Thanks :)

Sorry Wendy - I understand to be young it is only natural to like the music that goes on around you - I understand that. Don’t worry - though understand that there is a whole world of great music around if you do dare to look back in time! :)
cowboyusa - Great list - but PLEASE give me your name and country so I can send it on? PLEASE??? Thanks! :)
Take care everyone,
Toby, 20, NZ

Oh yes and cowboyusa - I’m not entirely sure - but is elvis number ones a 21st century album? Just remember that this survey is only for albums of 20th century (up to AND INCLUDING year 2000 albums).
So please if this is true please make that alteration.
Thanks,

My list:
- “Recuerdos en la Alhambra / Francisco Tarrega” by Narciso Yepes (1987) - (Music composed around 1901)
- “Stone Roses” by The Stone Roses (1989)
- “Full Moon Fever” by Tom Petty (1989)
- “Joyride” by Roxette (1991)
- “The Very Best of” by The Byrds (1997), music from 1965-
- “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust” by David Bowie (1972)
- “Heart Core” by Eva Braun (1998)
- “Isola (sv)” by Kent (1997)
- “What’s the Story Morning Glory?” by Oasis (1995)
- “Puls” by Gyllene Tider (1982)
I think it’s pretty ok. My name is Santi Rodriguez and I use to live and was born in Spain. However I had mentioned 3 Swedish bands and one Yugoslavian... and just 1 thing from Spain, so I don’t understand how useful is to know where I come from. Let’s say I’m a citizen of the world.
EDIT: (Ok, I corrected some things)
Stormkeeper said on May 9, 2003 13:54:
Santi your list is quite impressive.
What happened to Stone Roses?
Shane said on May 9, 2003 15:35:
Elvis - The Number Ones Cd
Beatles - The Number Ones
Go Go’s - Beauty and the Beat (I know, I know.... but they were the first all-girl band to write and perform all their own songs - had a #1 hit before any recording company would sign them - totally changed the industry)
The Joshua Tree - U2
Like a Prayer - Madonna
Rhythm Nation - Janet Jackson
Gold - ABBA
Kick - INXS
Greatest Hits - Eurythmics
Joyride - Roxette
Santi said on May 9, 2003 22:36:
Oh, the Stone Roses should make a movie of their life :D
How do I start??
Ok, they were so good that The Rolling Stones wanted them as support band, to which they replied “we don’t play with dinosaurs”.
This is the attitude that brought to them so many problems.
They had a contract with a small company called “Silvertone” and well, their success was so huge that they thought they could get more cash. So they tried to break the contract, but they couldn’t.
They got very angry at the company and some day came to the offices with a lot of paint cans, and spread the paint all around :D It went to the court and they couldn’t release anything in 4 or five years.
In this time Silvertone released everything they had of them, singles and a rarities album, etc... making good money.
But the band was preparing the “second coming” as the new album was called, in 1994 (in Geffen). It wasn’t as good as everyone expected and following it they released a greatest hits.
But the band started to “die” in 1996. What else... John Squire (the guitar player and composer) left and formed a band called The Seahorses that well, was kinda boring to my taste (too much “guitar hero”) in 1997.
Mani (the bass player) went into a well known band called “Primal Scream” in 1996.
Ian Brown (singer) got into techno music and released an album on his own, and was in jail because of some drugs issues.
About the drummer I don’t know much, and lately John Squire has released an album on his own where he even sings called “Time changes everything”. I still don’t have this record :)
The stone Roses has released lately also a new record, with all their biggest hits... but a record like “Stone Roses” is difficult to make it again :)

NO 21ST CENTURY ALBUMS ALLOWED! ONLY ALBUMS UP TO AND INCLUDING YEAR 2000!

Hi all,
Santi - thank you very much for you list - I have forwarded it on :)
Shane - great list - one problem - Which Elvis album are you talking about for #1? Is it the one with 30 #1’s that was released last year? Because if it was, I hate to say it, that is a 21st century album and we cannot accept your list.
However, good list overall - PLEASE send it again with that changed (or confirm it is 20th century) and also include your name and country? Thanks
