ROX MISTAKES

It’s maybe a bold topic, but what do You think: What mistakes done Roxette in their career???
I think lately mistake was to choose Opportunity Nox as a single promoting (?) The Pop Hits... I like this song but it’s not climbing charts... In my opinion better song could be Little Miss Sorrow (!)

Nevermind... Roxette won’t climb charts anymore!
Sorry I say that but I think Roxette live only for their fans;I think people don’t want to hear Roxette :(
I heard somewhere that Roxette have their best times far away... Maybe it’s true...

Full of Sorrow mimi
:(((((((((((((((((((((

rox mistakes—-

1) Baladas En Español

2) Four years break (between C!B!B! and HAND)

3) HAND

ROx Mistake —– DBUGTTC. They should release June Afternoon as a 1st single.

Interesting point is, if Roxette only lives for their fans... and it seems like that they are getting fewer too... Just look at the sales:
Look Sharp: 9 Million
Joyride: 11 Million
Tourism: 4.5 Million
Crash!B!B! 5 Million
Gr. Hits: 5 Million
Balladas: 1 Million
HAND: 3.5 Million
Room Ser.: 2.3 Million
Ballad Hits: ~1.5 Million
Pop Hits: ~1 Million (if they are very lucky)

isn’t it obvious, that the end is sooooo near? They will not be able to extend their record contract, as their sales are way too low... they might even be dropped out sooner anyway...
letz face it, that’s the way it is!!!

I have to say here - that Roxette are not alone in 2000 Eminem was the only artist to sell over 5 million albums. It is not just Roxette who are suffering from poor sales - it’s the whole industry!

The single chooises for Hand.
IMO:
1 Stars
2 Wish I Could Fly
3 Crush On You
4 Waiting For The Rain

but why Anyone??! WWWHHHYYYYY?????

To accept EMI’s decision not to release Crush On You as the 2nd single from HAND - as it was already planned.

@ Pietro

I am puzzled

@ down_so_down or whatever

In case you haven’t followed any kind of interview that Marie and Per have given it is quite obvious that you like to share opinions like that! They couldn’t care less about their record sales - they’re doing it for THEMSELVES & those who STILL like to listen to them...And come on, why would EMI drop them? EMI has plenty of worsely performing artists in its catalogue - - maybe it’s Roxette who should change the scenery and go independent!! :)

And then about the mistakes...
Hmm...I would say releasing “Anyone” as the 2nd single off HAND; Stars or COY should’ve followed instantly after WICF.

Asking Escolar to make Baladas en español
HAND’s production
HAND’s single releases.
Losing Anders H.
Not touring without the need of having great sales :)

lack of sales = INTRODUCTION OF MP3 FORMAT

Watch the SKY!

Biggest mistakes..........

They have just one or 2 songs as a single, then the CD,and then 2 years nothing........

My sis also says : the single is always good, but,if you buy the album, all other songs sux (talking about HAND and RS)

oh i forgot
another mistake was the long gap of time between CBB and HAND

Hej

Mistake - “HAND” !!! Dance beats, boring ballads, it sucks !! And not releasing “Crush On You” as a single ? Man, what were they thinking ? “Stars”, “Salvation” and “Anyone” as singles ?? Oh my God... 3 AWFUL choices... Bad album, Bad single choices, VERY bad videos... what can I say ? It all sucks !!

About sales... I don’t know about you... but I don’t care about it at all... Roxette will never die.

All the best
LoneGunman

@ animal kindom

> They couldn’t care less about their record sales - they’re doing it for THEMSELVES & those > who STILL like to listen to them

You’r right

@all

1. Hand was a complete mistake
2. The long “break” between CBB and HAND was an mistake
3. The publication of innumerable Compilations are mistakes
4. To change the music style (PLEASE: Away from the computer and back to the guitars)
5. EMI is an Mistake
6. baladas en español was an mistake

The only way again to come completely upward is to publish new albums in the USA and to Promote them. If they have there again success, they have success also again in Europe.

By! Pierre, Germany

BIGGEST MISTAKES ACCORDING TO MY HUMBLE MIND :O)

1A. NOT RELEASING ’CRUSH ON YOU’-’IT WILL TAKE A LONG LONG TIME’-’BREATHE’-’LITTLE MISS SORROW’ AS SINGLES
2A. INDEED RELEASING ’ANYONE’-’SALVATION’-’A THING ABOUT YOU’-’OPPORTUNITY NOX’ AS SINGLES

3. DROPPING ANDERS HERRLIN FROM THE BAND AND RECORDING TEAM

Here’s what I think:

Simply not releasing more singles from HAND. The ones they chose, however, were fine. I’m probably the only one who agrees with “Anyone” being the 2nd single choice.

Instead of releasing ’The Ballad Hits’ and ’The Pop Hits,’ a rarities type album should have been released with the new songs in addition to their back catalog being remastered with bonus tracks. However, releasing these compilations isn’t such a big deal. I think the main problem is just a lack of promotion, for obvious reasons (Marie).

And yes, “Breathe” should have been a single. Same goes for “Little Miss Sorrow.”

I also think Roxette should have picked up in the USA again with “Have A Nice Day.” It should have been released in the USA! The whole idea of releasing a Greatest Hits album years later on an independent label, of all things, was rather pointless. If they couldn’t have got to the USA until late 2000, they should have been promoting HAND on a major label.

And the biggest mistake of all is simply waiting so long to put out material in the USA. Forget the promotion. In the end, it’s all about distribution and I think US fans have been ripped off over the years. Keep in mind, not everyone had the Internet 5-8 years ago to be able to keep up on Roxette releases.

the should have released Stars instead of Anyone.... and then COY and then Salvation

“Anyone” is a fine single.
The biggest mistake was not to “move on” : instead of sticking to the same formula over and over again (basically Per Gessle writing the “hits”) they should have given Marie more space to write for Roxette.
That would have made them move to an unusual more mature sound. They might have lost some of their teeny bop audience but I’m sure they would have gained other fans.
Anyway they would have been SURPRISING.

yeah it’s a great song, but it flopped.... in this world you can’t have two balladsingles in a row....

why so much bitching and complaining?!!
It´s fine that you have an opinion but you don´t have to say that it is a mistake.

Personally I think HAND is a brilliant album. Although I think releasing Anyone instead of Crush On You wasn´t their smartest move I wouldn´t call it a mistake.

Show some decorum!!

EMI

OMFG!!! they’re perfect they can’t make mistakes !!!!! oh the Roxgods!!

I have in interview from 1999 (a video interview Roxette gave for a Hungarian music channel), where the interviewer mentioned that there were some cool remixes of Wish I Could Fly, and Per replied something like this: “Well, the next single’s going to be Crush On You, so get ready for more great remixes”.

yea almighty remixed crush on you... i think it woulda been released after salvation.. but due 2 that floppin they decided 2 do the next album....

first 2 singles shoulda been :
1.crush on you
2.wish i could fly

Ferdan: I´m not saying that they can´t make mistakes. It´s just that all we seem to do is complain. It seems we never get happy!
And I´m sick of it.

I´m so f¤¤¤ing sorry for my opinion!

it’s your opinion dont be sorry
———————————-

Another one
Per not playing his electric guitar loud in most of rox cocerts and live songs

There are lots of things that could have been done differently. I agree that Crush On You should have been a single release off ’Have A Nice Day’. The order should have been
1. Wish I Could Fly
2. Crush On You
3. Anyone
4. Stars
5. Salvation (If the previous singles were a success)

Vulnerable should never have been released as a single. There were too many superior songs on C!B!B!

June Afternoon or You Don’t Understand Me should have been the lead single from DBUGTTC in the UK instead of The Look ’95. YDUM just missed out on the top 40 (42 i think?) and June Afternoon (52?). These positions would have been higher if released earlier.

Having said all this, they did what they did and we can’t turn back time.

Apart from the singles they should have released at least one official live DVD

Oh yeah, one more thing...

Am I the only one who has the most urge to listen to “June Afternoon” only in the month of June? I think the single should have been released in late May/early June to capitalize on the success of the song. Wasn’t it released in the winter months? LOL. Just seems a bit odd. In that case, “She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” should have been the 2nd single with “June Afternoon” to follow in the proper month. ;)

amazing so many of u call hand a mistake yet its sold al;most 4 million copies ...u guys don’t know anything

hand didn’t sell 4 million....

according to Dagens nyheter it had sold 2,2 million before thr RS release

Of course, using Gretch guitars instead of Rickenbackers... :/

No, HAND has NOT sold 4 million copies. Someone got wrong fact. Try 2.3 or 2.5 million copies...

coy - it seems “we” are not the only ones who don’t know anything - welcome to the club.

I read somwhere that Have A Nice Day has sold 3,5 mill. copies so far and Room Service 2,5 mill. I´m sure it´s wrong.

Oh yeah ... the tendency (of selling albums) is falling as You can see...

It’s not good...

Anyway, TWAGT is better than HAND and it sold a bit over 500000... so, who cares about sales.

-releasing TPH and TBH
-less guitar album
-releasing Star
-too many videos with Akerlund
-Almost Unreal for Super Mario Bros

that’s all I can think about...

Could you open your eyes for a sec? There’s no mistakes - it’s just the way they work!
You call “HAND” a boring album - but it’s great if you focus on its technique. PG said clearly, it took him eternity to work in the studio - just to get used to new equipment, they were experimenting!
Do you guys really care about 1st/2nd/... singles?

All this thread is aimed at is revealing what you don’t like in Roxette. Good luck.

oh, in that attempt you just indirectly said that the way their work is a mistake.

Maybe you need to open your eyes to see that HAND was a bunch of ideas thrown and mixed together... without coordination or real thinking or organization behind those, obviously unorganized work takes more time than organized one.

I think the biggest mistake was the gap there was between CBB and HAND. Lots of people forgot them during that period of time. Some friends of mine thought they had split up.

HAND was another mistake. After that large period hearing that music was a little bit disappointing.

And they should’ve done more tours. I know that is tiring but maybe doing small tours less tiring but more repeatedly would’ve been the best choice.

I like this question. It´s interesting to think about it. I found an interview with Per where he´s explaining how they make records today. But, I asked myself, WHO is telling that you have to use computers and all this sampling stuff today??? Shooting Star, or what??? He´s explaining his own mistakes = “overproducing songs” (like some on HAND and some on RS). Why can´t they do it like they used to. Five people in the studio and that was it. Per: “You don´t do that anymore, we don´t do that anymore”. WHY? WHY? WHY? A little bit “William Orbit” style in a song (“Little girl”) is O.K., but not on every song!

I still like their albums and songs even if the latest songs are a bit weak. I like “Baladas en espanol” very much. I don´t know why so many people hate it, but I have to say that I don´t understand all the words. It seems like it has a bad translation. But it sounds beautiful to me.

http://http://roxette.cs.caltech.edu/oli/per.mp3
(it´s not too big; about 650 KB)

Another factor is that the older albums are bound to have sold more anyway because they have been on the shop shelves for a lot longer.

well,I think there´s no mistakes. It´s only the natural process of an artist, trying new sounds, trying to experiment. I´m not agree with TPH and TBH.That´s too much commercial, they had to edit a new album with new songs, not only 3 or 4

their biggest mistake is the management... maybe they should work with younger guys not only in the studio!

One GIANT mistake: recording Baladas en Español.

@Oliver: unfortunately, i speak spanish and i get terrified everytime i listen to the lyrics... they’re so stupid!!!!! If you listen to them in English, they sound a hundred times better... If you like to, i can give you a translation in English of the lyrics in spanish, and then you’ll see clearly the whole disaster...

And, hey!, what do sales care??? I’m sure Per and marie have enough money to record independently if they want to... I still love their songs, and i think every new album has something new and interesting to say. I don’t care if most people in the world don’t agree with me. I simply like roxette and that’s all. There are groups that sell really few copies and that go on working for years... I think 2-1 million of copies sold is a good reason to go on.

for me the turn began when roxette changed their style and kind of music in 1994 with C!B!B! i love all singles and albums that were released before that cut. everything that came after was not really what i’m a roxette-fan for.

i don’t know what your opinions are but sometimes i wish the “old roxette-times” back. what about you?

In my opinion Balladas en Espanhol was really a BIG MISTAKE. I´m portuguese and I undertsand spanish very well, and the translations are terrible. The words in spanish sound very bad.

- Not ingluding “It must have been love” in Joyride
- Not releasing “Keep me waiting” as a single
- Not including “Almost unreal” in CBB
- Releasing Favorities of CBB
- Releasing “Run to you” as a single instead of “Lies” or another song
- Too much time between CBB and HAND
- Beeing with EMI
- “Crazy about you” as a b-side
- Choosing Escolar to make transations to the Spanish songs (Please kill him!)
- Giving “Always breaking my heart” to another artist (that would have been one of gratest Rox songs)
- Releasing TWATG - Per doesn’t sell without Marie, and those songs would have been for a future Rox album! (Can you imagine “DYWBMB” and “Kix” together with “Stars”, “COY” and “7twenty7” - awesome!)
- Not releasing “Crush on you” as a 1st, 2nd or 3rd single from HAND (the singles from HAND were great but with different order)
- Stars video
- Having just 2-track single “ATAY” (waste of money)
- Not including “Fireworks” and “SDLHA” in the Pop hits and “Run to you” in the ballad hits
- New Per album in ’Swedish’

Nobody’s PERfect, neither Per :)
