Some quotations from Per and Marie about HAND

While watching an interview about Hand i noticed this:

Per: “We didn’t want the album to sound like “Listen To Your Heart” of 1989 or 1992. It must have an updated sound.”

Marie: “I think it was easy to record this album cause we have so many good songs in it. We just needed to pick the pearls...”

Per: “I guess this was a very dificult album to do. We had no idea what directions to follow. We just recorded all sorts of different material .... “

Per: “Working with M. Illbert was also very good cause he knows a lot about music and since he’s 20 years younger than us we had to change the attitude...”

These are some of the things they said about the process of recording the album .... looking through them and bearing in mind what we have been tellling here about that album... what do you think?

There’s also a nice interview about each of HAND’s tracks on roxservice.com.

Yeah I remember that one: Marie didn’t really like 7207 and she never understood the reason behind Cooper... in fact she makes fun of Per when she mentions Alice Cooper name. LOL
But she never denies loving “Anyone” and both still enjoy “Stars” exactly the 2 most polemic songs from Hand amongs the fan community... small contradictions on the Rox camp!

yeah its quite odd i remeber how everyoen bashed anyone as a single and album track ...but when they performed it on tour it got a standing ovation..i think theres just a bit of hippocracy in the fan base....its like how opeopel deny they’d ever buy a rox album but they have one or 2 in ther music collection

Cowboy let me tell you one thing YOU SAID IT ALL eh eh :)

i remeber they said they consided releasing anyone as a first single... that would of been the biggest mistake of their career in my opion if that happend ...

what the hell happened to CRUSH ON YOU? They, I guess, made a BIG BIG BLUNDER by not releasing CRUSH ON YOU as a single! STUPID DECISIONS are the root cause of Roxette’s sales going down!

Heart 2002: When did they say that? Obviously during the promotion for the album. Do you know any band that goes saying “we’re not satisfied with the last album... it’s shit, don’t even think of buying it”??
Of course, no one is gonna do such a thing, of course everyone that has just recorded an album thinks is good, and MUST SAY it’s the best they’ve ever done. Cuz of course, if we don’t hear that saying from the artist, we won’t buy it.

But when you look things with perspective, you can change your opinion. And while they’ve never said Joyride is a throwaway they have said later that they didn’t like so much HAND.

Are there also quotations to find about other songs from other albums, RS for example??

@ zeeshan . It was due to be the 5th single. Per early on said what all the singles were going to be, I was thinking why the 5th at the time! That song I believe would of exploded on radio and been a huge hit around the world. It sounds like such a perfect radio song. 2nd single after WICF would of been a good choice. I guess it was put back to be the 5th single because it didnt sound ’roxette’, but Anyone & Salvation did. The album died off before it had a chance :(

Marie: “I think it was easy to record this album...”
Per: “I guess this was a very dificult album to do...”

see, just an example of what i think, HAND’s production is just 4 people’s ideas thrown together without careful planing or whatever... In resume, just a mess.

Anyway I ended up liking the album despite its messy production and song combination! If you get over certain details like charts, critic reviews, radio praises (ou non-praises) it’s more easy to enjoy a certain record. Unless you can’t live without focusing on these aspects ... lol But yeah it’s weird, not no much because 4 people were producing it it’s more because the songs are all so different from one another ... a coherent line between them simply does not exist as such. You can visualize how all of them seem to have been recorded in different places at different perdios as if Roxettere were recoding different album along the year of 1998. I still say after these year that COY should have been a single release; I have nothing against “Anyone” and “Stars” is a cool song but probably not such an ideal single release for a band like Roxette. And yet “Beautiful Things” remains as one of my very own 2 Marie’s most loved favorites together with “Watercolours in the Rain”. It was like having “Tro” and “Herren Beg for Dig” in once song only. Lyrics are very simple but very emotional so no need too many words to say just one simple and true thing... (Isn’t it Ferdan? LOL)
Have a Nice Day Guys!!!

Well I just think HAND has great songs. I am sure it could be better than CBB if it wasn’t for those creepy arrengements. Like Per said, “Stars” was born as a guitar-oriented song.
COY would be great with live drums and no synths. Funny lyrix!
WICF is perfect as it is
YCPYAAWAG Needs more guitars
WFTR - Great song
Anyone - Love it
IWTALLT - One of the best on HAND
7twenty7 - The demo is a killer
IWSL - Gorgeous
Stars needs guitars, live drums and no syths
Salvation has wonderful lyrics and a very good melody
Pay The Price is perfect
Cooper - It’s nice... I guess...
SATG - GREAT! It’s so different!
Beautiful Things is so damn good.
See, it’s a very nice album (to me) and it would be fab with better arrengements. Marie is right in a way :)
Peace.
