Your favourite recordings of the past months
Burke said on March 5, 2003 21:18:
This has been discussed before, I am sure. Still, I think it’s interesting to see what other people listen to (and if only to get some new and nice inspiration)
So, what are your current favourite recordings?
powerpoplarry said on March 6, 2003 10:00:
ALBUMS or singles??
For me, I focus on albums, and my fave recent recordings are:
The All American Rejects– s/t
The Coral– s/t
Kelly Osbourne– “Shut Up” (yes seriously)
American Hi-Fi– “The Art Of Losing”
Kenna– “New Sacred Cow”
Richard X Heyman– “Rightovers”
Galleon– s/t (KILLER 80s-flavored French duo!!)
Models– “The Album” (fun girlgroup based out of France, consisting of actual supermodels, who met at their model agency!! Half the album is covers, and the other half is like a killer Kylie album with more of an edge!! Their cover of AC/DC’s “Highway To Hell” has to be heard to be believed!!)
Jennie Lofgren– “Meant To Be” (KILLER Swedish singer/songwriter/keyboardist!! She sings + writes songs in English, and she sounds like a hybrid of Dido and Madonna, with a hint of Tori!!)
Stellar*– “Magic Line” (AMAZING New Zealand band, like a more powerpop Garbage, maybe with a hint of Cardigans in em)
Drive-By Truckers– ’Decoration Day” (not out till May, but it’s another helping of their raucous country/hard rock hybrid, somewhere between Lynyrd Skynyrd and AC/DC)
John Eddie– s/t (AMAZING reinvention of this Jersey guy who came out in the mid-80s with “Jungle Boy”. Now, he’s like a Ryan Adams/Marshall Crenshaw/Springsteen hybrid!! Not out till May, this is one of the finest albums of 2003!!)
Th_Th said on March 6, 2003 10:45:
David West feat. Sara : Anything you want me to be. (Sara’s amazing voice!!)
Shakira : Eyes like yours. (Unique and different)
Shania Twain : What a way to wanna be. (Such cool tune!)
Justin Timberlake : Like I love you. (Great lyrics!!)
Avril Lavigne : I am with you (nice and cool)
Mouline Rouge Soundtrack : Your Song. (Coolest version of this song, ever!!)

powerpoplarry how do you know Jennie Lofgren?
If you´re into her you´ll like Lisa Miskovsky as well. She´s from Sweden too and talented.
My fave is “Quietly”.

Hmmm...random stuff. I get these obsessions every now and then. In the past few months...
The regular:
*Roxette - Opportunity Nox, Breathe, A Thing About You, ’The Ballad Hits’ and ’The Pop Hits’
*Eurythmics - ’Peacetour,’ The Miracle Of Love, Here Comes The Rain Again, Why, I Saved The World Today, When Tomorrow Comes, and so on.
Latest obsessions:
*Billy Idol - ’Greatest Hits’...picked this up for $9.99 a few months back and found myself loving almost every song. Remastered sound sounds so good! Favorites: Dancing With Myself, Mony Mony, Rebel Yell.
*t.A.T.u. - All The Things She Said, Not Gonna Get Us, Malchik Gay, Show Me Love
*Justin Timberlake - ’Like I Love You’ extended club mixes. Got the import single about a week ago and was inspired to make my own longer extended version.
*P!nk - Still love the singles from the album, namely ’Just Like A Pill’ from which I made an extended remix.
*Craig David - Spanish
*The Cure - Lovesong (Remix), Friday I’m In Love
*’Smallville’ Soundtrack (The Talon Mix): Remy Zero - Save Me, Sixpence None The Richer - Don’t Dream It’s Over, Five For Fighting - Superman (It’s Not Easy)
*TLC - Damaged, Hands Up
*Melissa Etheridge - I Want To Be In Love, Heal Me, ’Live...And Alone’ DVD...The Weakness In Me, Chrome-Plated Heart.
*Madonna - The Power Of Good-Bye, You’ll See (Extended Version by me), Music (Extended Version by me), Don’t Tell Me (Extended Version by me), among other ones.
*Heart - ’Greatest Hits 1985 - 1995’...namely Alone, Black On Black II
That’s enough...
powerpoplarry said on March 10, 2003 09:35:
Mfan, you like Heart’s REMAKE of Dalbello’s “Black On Black”?? Yes it IS a cover song, originally by Lisa Dalbello, from 1986, on the “9 1/2 Weeks” soundtrack, and Lisa’s KILLER 1987 album “She”. As much as I love Heart, I find their 70s stuff the best, 90s second, and 80s last. It’s all good though, but Lisa Dalbello is one of my favourite artists, but she’s only released 6 albums since her debut album in 1977!! She’s like the 70s-80s Alanis Morissette.
Stormkeeper, I discovered Jennie Lofgren by accident. I have a friend who works at Sony Music in NYC, in the International department, and I both raid her promo drawer, as well as people leave CDs they don’t want against a wall for the taking, and most are imports. I acquired Jennie’s “Meant To Be” CD that way, and she blew me away!! She deserves US exposure, as she is both stunningly beautiful and talented!! Is she single?? Popular?? Successful?? Does she play live often??
Lisa Miskovsky, huh?? What’s the website??
Stormkeeper said on March 10, 2003 18:39:
Larry:
Unfortunately Jennie is not popular outside Sweden. I don´t know if she´s single :D

Listen to QUIETLY, watch DRIVING ONE OF YOUR CARS video... I know you like beautiful chicks so check out pics... :D
she likes snowboarding!
best wishes
Santi said on March 10, 2003 20:48:
Wasn’t Jennie Lövgren Anders Herrlin girlfriend? Yeah-yeah, Roxette’s ex-bassist girlfriend.
Santi said on March 10, 2003 20:59:
By the way, “Driving one of your cars” is one of the best songs I’ve listened in long time :D It was a big hit in Sweden when I was living in Stockholm back in 2001. National hits were this and Titiyo’s “Come along” (I’m sick and tired of that song :S)... well, and Roxette’s “Centre of the heart” :P
Anyway, you’re really gonna like Lisa, Larry :D
powerpoplarry said on March 11, 2003 07:29:
Hey, thanxx for the Lisa link, she’s pretty cool!! Her music is really good too, good rocking, electronic-tinged powerpop, the midpoint between Roxette and the Cardigans. And lookswise, she’s easy on the eyes, yes. :-) Actually, some pics she looks gorgeous, others she’s like a more feminine Avril Lavigne!! Not that that’s bad, but she’s sorta tomboyish, but she can look awesome!!
Sooo, you’re saying that Jennie WAS dating Anders or is still dating Anders?? If at all possible, I’d love the word to get to Jennie that she has an admirer in America, musically as well as physically, I think Jennie is a rated 10 in looks, a total knockout!! I would date her in a heartbeat!! Um, I know Jennie is not known outside Sweden, that’s why I said my discovering her here in New York was purely accidental, not meant to happen, as no import stores even stock her album either. Sooo, if I do what Daniel Cushman did with Roxette to Jennie Lofgren, this could be fate, eh?? A cycle happening all over again!! I REALLY think her music is amazing and she is TOO good to remain untouched in the US!! I want some power over her fate in America, as I have her CD, know what I mean??
Um, I sorta like that Titiyo song, “Come Along”, although it flopped here in America. Lava/Atlantic did a crappy job promoting her album, so it didn’t deserve to die like that. Um, maybe you didn’t know, but Titiyo (half-sister of Neneh Cherry), her album was written by a teaming of members of the Cardigans and Kent!!
Santi said on March 11, 2003 11:25:
No, I didn’t know that. I don’t like Cardigans anyway, though Kent are among my favourite. I did know she had some collaboration work with Kent’s, and she even sings in one song of their last album “Vapen Och Ammunition” that among other things, has served to Kent for being recognised by critics and public as the best Swedish Rock Band EVER (it seems so at least... they sell as fast as Bruce Springsteen).
The song is a ballad called “Duett” (Duet :D). Anyway, the song says much more than the title :p
“Jag fick ett brev, ett riktig brev med frimärken”
I also received a letter TODAYYYYY :D Thanks Wen!! :p
Stormkeeper said on March 11, 2003 15:42:
I like COME ALONG (video too!) but second single 1989 was much weaker :(
They played Come Along to death on the radio in 2001, still do.She deserves more success over-seas.

My latest discovery: Swediish band The Caesars!!! A compilation of tracks from their 3 Swedish albums, called “39 Minutes Of Bliss (In An Otherwise Meaningless World)”, was released here by Astralwerks/Virgin, and I am very impressed!! Very fun stuff, with some blissful spacey tracks as well. My first impression was they’re like a Swedish Supergrass who are influenced by 60s garage punk like Question Mark and The Mysterians, with their heavy use of organ. Their tune “Jerk It Out” is an instant mix CD addition to make for people!!

Two more records that I want to recommend:
Client - this one is fantastic!! Please do give it a try. For everyone who likes the sound of the early eighties its a must. But it’s even better - because it sounds so fresh. Nice pop! :-)))
British Sea Power - Decline Of British Sea Power
has some similarities to The Police - maybe that’s why I like it so much :-)
Go out, listen to it, enjoy it, buy it! ;-)
StupidGirl said on August 30, 2003 23:13:
Client aren’t that extraordinnary. i had to review their single a couple of month ago (gave them 6 out of 10). I mean they’re not bad. but come on, ladytron, adult. and many others made the same music but better and that at least two or three years before client.
Burke said on August 31, 2003 07:08:
But they are nice to look at. :P I would have given them 8 out of 10. :D It’s very much 80s, but I can’t help it, I like it. :-)
Oh, have I already mentioned that ’Me And Cassity - Hope, With A Pain Chaser’ is an excellent recording, too?
