Ripping themselves off !

You know what’s not so great about Roxette ?
They tend to repeat themselves over and over again...
“Opportunity Nox” sounds familiar ??
Try to compare the intro for Real Sugar (Shooting Star Treatment” and the one for “ON” and see what I mean...
A complete rip off...!

Yes, they sound alike. The most of PG´s songs does. But I love it anyway.

After so much songs, how do you want no to repeat yourself ???
It’s impossible !
Per create is own style, and even it’s still roughly the same songs, I like that ...
That’s pop music

If you can’t copy yourself, who can you copy? At least it’s better than a certain Manchester band who constantly seem to take chords, riffs and melodies from ’giants’ (IMO)
Paul said on February 4, 2003 19:36:
Gessle is not copying himself.
His copying the 60’s.
That was when the best music was done, so I think his doing the right thing.

like it or not.
Be a Roxette-fan or not.
This is the Roxette-sound, so if you don’t like it,
you just are not a Roxette-fan.
Or maybe you are, but you have to accept this
is a part of the Roxette-sound.

the guitars at the end of the chorus of ON sound strangely familiar... i think from lies but i’m not 100%... neone else?
s-czopek said on February 4, 2003 21:52:
Is it possible to make a simple (yet true) remark about some songs sounding the same without being treated a “non-Roxette-fan” ? That would be nice...
They’re doing better ballads, better classy pop singles but I’m sorry their “sing-along-throwaway-bubblegum-songs” all sound the same.
And believe me, it is possible to say something like that and still be a true Rox fan !

@s-czopek: I dare you. Make 300 songs and write the lyrics and sound different in all of them!!! I DARE YOU! :d:d:d
Cheers,
Zee

Maybe the solution is not to release so many songs ! They’re supposed to be artists, not hit machines !
s-czopek said on February 4, 2003 22:51:
I mean, AND DON’T GET ME WRONG, I know that, as an artist, you tend to dig the same hole, but there’s a difference between songs having the same vibes and songs sounding really alike. That was my point when comparing ON with RS (Shooting Star Treatment).

u need to keep a familiar sound or peopel won’t listen to you anymore kinda like the difference between the american sound of joyride and the brit sound of cbb

Maybe “just some” of Per’s songs sounds similar. But he has so many songs that sounds different.
I mean, are we even talking about the melodies of the songs or the arrangements of the songs?
If the arrangements that is understandable because those songs are from the same artists. It’s their style.
I guess some melodies are similar but it’s not as if “most” their songs sounds the same. Bear in mind Per wrote the songs, those songs are from one man. Listen to other artists (even the classical composers) some of their music sounded similar to their other ones.
I don’t care anyhow. I love Roxette songs. Per is a genius. He creates great music.
The first time I bought their album is because I love their music, and when I’ve discovered he wrote the songs, I was more impress.
Anyway, since were talking about similarities. The following are what I found.
-The ending of ’Dress for Success’ is a bit similar to the ending of ’Small Talk’. Try singing “Big words...... small talk........” to the ending of Dress for Success, and it fits.
-Sometimes when I play one Roxette song on the piano and hit the wrong notes, there were a few times it ended sounding like another Roxette song.
For example, yesterday I was playing LTYH and the following notes I hit was wrong, then I thought, hey this sort of sound like their other song ’Anyone’
-The other day I let my brother listened to the ’Look Sharp’ album and he heard “Chances”.. and he told me some parts of the song sounded like ’Neverending Love’.
... the part when Marie sang in Neverending Love that goes “It’s you that I long for, It’s you that I hunger”, my brother said sounded like the part of Chances that goes “And I say that I love you.
I say that I need you”. Which I totally agree.
