what are these re-master demos? who remastered them?

I bet he remastered them with Sound Forge, Wave Lab or some program like those :D

You lack the demo to “So far away”, called “Som i en dröm” and included in Per’s demo Cd from the box “På väg”.

I was thinking of doing a compilation of the songs in english and therefor not include the Swedish version of So far away (a nice demo by the way).

And yes I have done the re-mastering myself with a mastering program called T-Racks. This program has great function for EQ, Compressor and Limiter. The reason why I did this was that a lot of the songs from the Unleashed bootleg sounded very bad. And not to brag about myself but they sound a lot better now.

What parameters did you use to master those tracks?
I+d like to do it myself :)

I haven’t saved the settings. And each song where handled different.

For some of the songs like the Marie demos the goal was only to get the song to sound loud enough and get as close as possible to 0 db without clipping and at the same time keep the dynamic.

For other songs like SMT and WSL I also had to boost the EQ below 200 Hz and cut over 2000 Hz.

And then there is the Compressor and the limiter. I’m not an expert on these things and I use the presets in the program and make slight adjustment to these after what I hear.

I can e-mail you an mp3 as a sample if you want.

Kärlekens skepp

Never Is A Long Time (Reggae Demo). :)
Has absolutely the same tune background as recently uploaded IMHBL cover at roxette.be. Surely sang by Per.

Well, regarding cutting off after 2000 KHz is making song too muffled, I guess here it’s not the best way, but try NR or Hiss Reduction with different graph line you can set. It helps a lot. Compressor usually helps when you know that if you rip from some source there’s an overload at hight or low freqs, it just sets them down to set parameter.

Hi Andrew. We have discussed this many time before. And you are absolutely right about the cutting problem. I remember the last time I tried to remaster some of Unleashed songs. As you correctly pointed out they ended up way too muffled. This time I have chosen to keep more of the background noice, and the result became much better. I’ll send you a sample in correctly decoded mp3 this time :-)

To daniel_alv: As I said I only want to include the English demos.

Great to hear hi-freqs are now left safe. Waiting for a sample.
P.S. Have you managed to get overloaded bass off in Marie demos? Which way?

The sample is sent. You should have it any minute now.

The only thing I did with the Marie demos was to raise the level on three of the songs (AIEW, BM and Remember). I don’t think there are much to do with distortion on a songs like ATLTK and BT. To me it looks like thise songs has gone above the 0 db limit either during recording or later when someone has tried to increase the volume.

Probably 2 Cinnamon Street and Oh Marie should also be included?

Got the sample, prepared also 2 remastered excerpts for you ;)

2 Cinnamon Street must be included. I forgot that one. Oh Marie I’m more unsure about. Is this one really a one demo.

Looking forward to hear you remastered excerpts.

What about the Don’t Believe In Accidents-Demo from the Run To You-Single?

Yes, there’s another one I forgot. Thanks.

Where did u get the Demos for Sheena & Shcok Treatment???

Some other Demos you missed

After School Demos [2b and 2k]
Jupiter Calling
Lets Party

Dave

Let’s Party and Jupiter are included. Read more carefully ;)

Sheena and Shock T are B-sides to the “I wanna be you boyfriend” single.

Ketil, I have a few more you could add, but I’ll mail you about that. :)

Ketil:
Are you going to burn the demos on a CD?

Gnius gone wrong

OK Thomas :)

Th_Th: As I said I’m planning to make som CD-R’s for myself.

Igor: Maybe I should add Genius.., but I consider this one to be more of a Gyllene Tider song. I’ll have to think about it.

Ketil, you will be laughing but it’s again too muffled and too much noise in the beginning :)
Besides I think it’s too much bass for a demo (really)... And what we have on the 7th second? Ai-ai, not great for a remastered thing...

Just finished my version. Masterpiece :)
Let’s involve Thomas ears in this bet.

Damned, still too muffled. Either I’ll have to get a new pair of speakers to my PC or you have to get a new pair of ears :-)

And you are right about the 7th second. There is something strange there. Does this comes from the original? I’ll have to check this out.

Can’t wait to hear your masterpiece.

Thomas can be the jugde in our competition. But what should be the prize? We’ll have to figure out something.

Yes, I have all of them!

I guess you’d better get new speakers (will give you small advice here: BUY HEADPHONES!). I believe my ears are OK as well as my Technics amplifier :)

On the 7th second there’s a gap in the right channel and this comes from original tape. I think I fixed that.

I guess your ears are ok :-)

I’m not sure about headphones though. All advice about mastering says that you shouldn’t use headphones because everything sound different compared to normal speakers.

I have received your stuff, and I will listen to them later today. This is quite exciting :-)

Yes ketil I am aware but you said they are Demos, which they are not. Nowhere on the cd, 7” or 12” (I have all 3) does it mention demo it simply states previously unreleased, otherwise you have a verycomplete list of demos.

You are right about Sheena and Shock T. They are listed only as unreleased tracks, but they are recorded in T&A with MP and from that I think they can be classified as demos.
