The Offspring - Smash

these days I’ve just “found” that album - “Smash” by Offspring (some kind of old, ’94, but anyway)... and well, I like it. I have never listened to that kind of music (I know some Nirvana, etc. stuff, but Nevermind just gathers dust around /too many times listened, hehe/) , so first it was some kind of strange (now I already can differentiate the songs ;) , hard to listen to that many guitars on one place :D, but later I just couldn’t leave the headphones. and seems I had really needed something different from The Ballad Hits ;)

as I feel absolutely smashed (well, maybe more hurted, angry and exhausted than ’smashed’) since some days this album fits perfectly my mood. some poweful guitar rock songs listened terribly loud (almost impossible to stand sound) are exactly what I need. somehow I found my peace there, a way to slip away from the pain and everything... to forget the whole world for a while, and to get all alone (better off on my own), I feel, was the best I could do. and now I’m a way better (still need to relax, but that isn’t that hard to do)

my current favourite song is “Smash” , which grabbed me the first time I heard it on Wednesday (of course not the first time really, but the first time I payed any attention for)... then maybe “so alone” because of the lyrics (“Look at the crowd and tell me whether all are surrounded but none are together / If you’re awake, look all around at all of the people / Still you’re so alone, so alone / If I could, I’d make a suggestion without sounding preachy or begging the question / Melt with your minds, melt with each other / Don’t be surrounded, don’t be so alone”) , and so on...

thanks for the reading, I just needed to share my thoughts. any opinions are welcome.

goodnight (or whatever it is there) and take care,
j.

the offspring ROCK! and smash is one of their best albums! i think all of the songs in that album are diamonds! dont have to mention “self esteem” their no1 song! also “come out and play” “gotta get away”-(my favourite), “genocide” etc

theres also one song-i cant remember the title that goes like “superpowers spread their wings hold the world on muppet strings” i love those words so inspired!

i have all their cds, i would advise u to get also “ignition” , “ixnay of the hombre” and “americana”

;-)

“Superpowers flex their wings, hold the world on puppet strings,
Egos will feed, while citizens bleed, that’s always the way it goes,
Well if they tried maybe they’d see, it’d do a little good to let the world be free,
Handshake and a smile gets you on through, then turn it all around with a suicide move”
- it is from “it’ll be a long time”. great song, indeed.
I love it when a song goes a bit slower for a while (which hapens in Smash , It’ll be a long time , staring at the sun..) , and then fast again, it reminds me of the ending of The Big L. live in Johannesburg, I love that song just because of the ending... ;) so , here it goes something similar.
I think I’ll get my hands on Americana soon , too (but I don’t like these girls in Pretty fly :P)

Usually this kind of music is too hard to me but I´m surprised to tell you I like Got To Get Away from “Smash”.

@ stormkeeper: so u like their mid tempo songs! try listening “gone away” from “ixnay of the hombre” cd...u will love it! it sounds (the music) a bit like “zombie” from the cranberries :)

thank you for a tip. I try to catch the song you mentioned.
I like Zombie. Very powerful.
I heard she´s (Dolores) Ireland´s richiest woman but don´t know if that´s true.

I don’t know, too...
I used to be a big fan of The Cranbarries, almost as Roxette. I still like them really a lot, but not the way it was before. well, my list of favourite bands changes almost every day, so that’s no wonder.
I also found this music hard for me before... now it’s different (well, the other thing is, that now I like almost every kind of music ;). it is my brother who listens to “harder” music (I got Smash form him , acdually ;) , and I clearly remember what I thought when I heard The offspring, it wasn’t nice at all...
Gone Away is great , too, I just heard it. what a pity that I can find on CD only Americana here...
