A little about Lucia
Lucia and her maids arrive in the dark hours of the midwinter dawn, dressed in white with candles on their heads and singing the Lucia song.
This tradition means that you wake up to singing and are served coffee, lussekatter and pepparkakor in bed. The celebration always takes place on December 13th which was the darkest day of the year in the old almanac which was in use up to 1753.
Santa Lucia has become a Swedish icon of winter, nearly as popular as Jultomte, the Swedish Santa Claus. Although Lucia Day, in its modern, secular incarnation, has only been celebrated on a national scale in Sweden since the 1920s, variations of today’s celebration can be traced throughout
Swedish history to the Middle Ages and beyond to the 4th century martyrdom of a Sicilian virgin named Lucia.

Play “Sverige” by Kent for all of us who can’t be there :) Snälla :)
Ok, maybe this is very slow, but would make a wonderful end :)
“Välkommen, välkommen hit, vem du än är, var du än är”
(In English would be: “Welcome, welcome here, whoever you are, wherever you are”)

This is definitely the party for all the homesick Swedes in New York City to sing some songs from the homeland! There will be another one June 21 for Swedish midsummer.
We have grand plans for that one....
Check out the pictures from last years party at www.internationalswede.com
We had like 3000 people at one event!

Can someone *PLEASE* try for something in either April or November!?!?!?!
Those are my next vacations. Ain’t no WAY I can get June or December. I don’t have enough seniority (folks who be there longer usually get the summer / holiday months.

Well the scale would be much much smaller.
These particular events coincide with Swedish holidays. Obviously most of the people who come to the event are Swedish expats. So it would be fun for everyone, as Swedes are Roxette fans by birth and obligation to mother country! (??) So I know everyone will sing along to the songs. I can gather enough of them on Lucia, Midsummer and maybe Valborg. However other days are pushing it.
As I dj regularly at a place called Tja! I am sure they would be very happy to host an event for you guys. It’s not a huge place so it’s easy to pack. If you all can gather at least 20 or so people I can do the rest.

Tnoe: I know... I am just whining because I am kinda in the middle of the pack when it comes to seniority. ;o)
