C’mon! I once read here that there were bands who said positive things about Roxette (like Red Hot Chili Peppers and others) and some ones who said bad things (like Oasis – oh how terrible…buhhh). But of course that Per and Marie also have (flaming) opinions about other artists…like the Britney thing said by Marie. After all, they’re not mummies…so, what you got to tell about that?? Does anybody know anything??

can’t find anything to say about

this Summer I saw an interview with Roxette on MTV, when they presented Milk&Toast&Honey, so...
When they were asked what song they would like to listen, both decided on Travis song.
On the question “Why Travis?”, Per told
-They’re making good songs & the soloist has a good voice.
And Marie added:
- And he’s very good looking...

-)

Just wanted to know what bad/good things Oasis/Red Hot Chilli Peppers/Others said about Roxette?

T.G

Well, I know Per likes ABBA:) In a recent interview, he said that if he could give 1 song to aliens from another planet, it would be SOS by ABBA... indeed, that is a great song:)

On Radio 1, Per said that he liked Travis as well - but the guy from Travis said that Per had a big head - a really big head! Not big as in ’Per thinks himself bette than anyones else’ just big as in size!

LOL

this made me laugh. They also did the test to see if Per was StarStruck - by asking him questions about how much a pint of milk was, whether he wore sunglasses inside. I think that he was only half star-struck.

Once Per told “Bono is fab!” They often mention U2 in the interviews. For instance... Here the extract from an Australian interview of 1991 with MF

...We got a very special feeling the first time we came to Australia. We both really loved the atmosphere there. I really liked the people - everyone we met was very friendly. We are really looking forward to playing live there. Per and I saw U2 perform in Melbourne and the audience was just wonderful. Everyone was really excited, it was just fantastic...

hey—-first thing- i think that in the clip of “run to u” from the crash boom bang album , u can see for one second the u2 band inside a concert hall. please fix me if i am wrong but mybe it can say something about the relationship......
second-i am shame of myself but really want to know about what the red hot chilli papers said about roxette. it can certainly change my fillings to red hot bla bla band if it was something bad about roxette.
by the way i finally didnt eat big burger yesterday...peace!

I remember someone saying that the Red Hot Chili Peppers singer said he enjoyed ’Look Sharp!’ very much and thought it was one of the best albums he ever bought...

Also I recall Marie commenting on the techno/dance oriented music world by saying that she’s got the new Madonna album (Music) and others but cannot (doesn’t want to) listen to those records.

One more, might be a bit irrelevant but anyways:

I don’t know if anyone ever watched MTV’s VideoClash but, anyway, I once sent a message and wrote “Why don’t you play Roxette?” and the editor commented back: “Roxette...Do you have no taste at all?”

I watched videoclash a couple of times and one time there was somebody who asked if he like Roxette and he replied that he only liked one song and that was Listen to your heart.

Hi all!!

To contribute to this topic, I have to say that in an interview from 1995 at any radio station both P&M told that they both liked a lot Sheryl Crow’s music, and that they thought that she was very talented :)

In an interview in NME 30th march 1995 or 6.

The lead singer of The Wannadies was asked what he thought about Roxette.....

Pär Wilksten : “God I hate those bastards”

Per .....before he heard what PW thought :

” I really like The Wannadies”

and after.....

“The Wannadies are a great band because they’re not very far away from what we do, only we have better songs and sell millions more records”

Nice one Per! :P

..........................................................................

Marie once said in an interview in the Vox (doesn’t exsist anymore) magazine.....

“Whats all this Vanilla Ice shit you have here....your charts are really bad”

How right she was!!! LOL

[who brought this topic back to life??]

I once sent a question to Per in roxette.se. The title was “Missing the 80’s”, where I asked if they used to play other band’s songs in the rehearsals, just for fun...he said he doesn’t, but the guys play classics from Scorpions and Eagles.

He said his fave song from 80’s is ’Girls on Film’, from Duran Duran. I heard this song once and it was very nice!! Reminds me a little, just a little, physical fascination.

BTW: I don’t like Bono Vox. He’s talented, but I think he’s a pretender...at least a little.

@tinytim
I did!!!

Having recently rekindled my passion for Roxette and just discovered this site weeks ago, I thought I’d read the past discussions here (to catch up).
This topic interests me. Once in a while, there maybe some old topics/past discussions I might bring back to life.

What did Marie say about Britney?
(I hate Britney.)

yeah I WUD LOVEEEEEEEE TO HEAR THAT!

I HATTTTTEEEEEE Britney too!

Zee

euh...am i the only one who likes her???? *shy*
well,only the music,her personality is nothing :p

Her music sucks. Doesn’t matter if a singer looks good or bad if he/she has good music to offer. Britney doesn’t have that at all!

Zee

Britney is just ridiculous... Especially with her “I love rock & roll”

Some songs sung by Britney Spears are pretty good. I think “Stronger” is a very good song, and I don’t matter if you flame me :D

Hate to admit it (even to my friends) but I like most Britney Spears songs. Her songs are catchy, she can sing and can dance really well. I hate that “I’m a Slave” song though.
But I’m not sure if I like her as a person. I also don’t like how she promotes sex to sell an album. Many artists nowadays are doing that.

Ok.......Ok.............I have her 3 full-CD’s,and they’re pretty good :p

Hey,what did Oasis say about Roxette?

Does anybody else know about other bands comments on Rox/Per/Marie and vice versa?
Please send them I´d love to read that!

heheh
loved to read what marie said about vanilla ice ,hate that idiot!!!

and...
Per on Simply Red from FC mag:
´´ jeezus,they are urghblaaaergh´´

ROTFLOL!!!

i hear sometime in the late 90s ozzy osbourne said he thought roxette was a very good band and he didn’t mind working with per on a new song for ozzy’s greatest hits abum... that didn’t work out though...

Britney ruin the song “I Love Rock And Roll”, I perefer the Joan Jett’s version better!!!

Well, we have to consider that Per really dislikes Bon Jovi, too.

I remember that the thing on Britney said by Marie was written in a interview posted on roxette.nl site, while they were yet rehearsing for the RS tour. The site reporter asked about something like the actual pop moment, and Marie said something here, there and when she mentioned Britney, she said something ironical, she finished the phrase with “and Britney, well, everybody knows how she will sound”. I don’t remember the declaration entirely, but the context was ironical.

uuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhh I like the sound of that!!!!!!!!!

Zee

It was about the Upcoming albums of Michael Jackson & Britney ; and she say (somethin’ like this) That she prefer listen the new MJ’s album than BS. stuff because everybody Knows how she will sound...

hehe!

well i have heard a comment from Oscar, he once said that he thought britney was a better singer than his mama!!!!!!!!

The following are the quotes I’ve come across when I was doing some Roxette net-surfing. I found them rather insulting to the duo.

Quotes from “The Wannadies”:
============================

“We formed because there was nothing else to do, but now we want to be popular all over the world because the only Swedish bands people have heard of are Ace of Base and Roxette. God, I hate those b*****ds.”

http://www.cmcuk.demon.co.uk/wannadie/other/quotes.htm

————-

Q. It’s a similarly well known fact that you don’t like Ace of Base or Roxette. Is this not just jealousy of their success on your part?

A. Par-“I think it’s easier if you’re a bit shitty, very lousy, commercialised, it’s easier to make money. But I think bands like REM and U2, they’re really big, and they’re not shitty. So, sure we’d like to sell as many albums as Ace of Base or Roxette,”

Quotes from “Savage Garden”:
==================================
Q - What about this whole Roxette-soundalike thing? Are you fans of theirs?

A - Darren: No, never have been. I respect them but I’ve never bought a Roxette single. I think when people hear our next single “To the Moon and Back” they’ll see we’re not like Roxette.

A- Daniel: I think the whole Roxette thing came from an industry mag. A reviewer said something about “I Want You” sounding like Roxette, so, of corse, when most DJs read it they think, “Blah blah Roxette!”

————-

(Daniel about their [then] upcoming single “To the Moon and Back”)
Daniel: Even if it doesn’t do anything on the charts we’re releasing it to get away from the whole Roxette thing.

Q - What’s your Favourite Roxette song?
A - Darren: The only song I really liked is “Listen To Your Heart”, that’s a great song.
A - Daniel: “It Must Have Been Love” was good.

Q - What is the meaning of life according to Savage Garden?
A - Darren: (in Swedish accent) To listen to your heart.
A - Daniel: To come join the joyride.

Quotes from “Deckchair”:
==================================
Q - Who or what inspired you to become a musician?
A - ’cos there is so much crap out there, if Roxette can be pop stars then why not me?

My response to this:
=========================
Who are the “Wannadies” and who do they think they are???
Also, what do you think of Savage Garden’s thoughts about Roxette. They didn’t even wanted to sound like them. The first time I read that interview was in ’96 and I thought they were making fun of them.
..... and who is this Deckchair? any of you heard of them.

...

My God...Savage Garden is a joke...but are they swedish?

And Deckchair? What is it? A name for a bathroom seat design of the future?

About those Wannabees...Wannadies...well, if you can’t respect the Gallagher brothers, so...

@tinytim: No, Savage Garden are not Swedish. They are Australians. People say their first single ’I Want You’ sounds like Roxette and they don’t like being compared with them.
Savage Garden (Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones) have now split.

I don’t know who the Deckhair are? But I saw picture of them. Haven’t heard what kind of music they do.

The Wannadies? I haven’t heard any song of theirs either.

There’s a spanish pop-punk-rock band that sings in english called Dover that once said they liked Roxette.

For some reason I keep bringing this topic back. Anyway, I just discovered another negative opinion of Roxette on other artists.

A quote from Marie:

http://members.tripod.com/MARIE_FREDRIKSSON/Quotes.html

“What is all this shit music in the charts? I mean all this Vanilla Ice shit? I have never seen a chart like this, it is really so bad.”

I think Savage garden made a fool outa themselves by saying, they released to the moon and back to get away from the Roxette image. I think, to the moon and back is one of the songs that sounds most like Roxette does!
Savage Garden always have sounded like Roxette and that doesn’t seem to change... even their solo stuff...

just to say that right now on Top 20 fmplus radio Bulgaria i listenning Crush by Darren Hayes -it’s number 2
and the number 1 is ..guess who- Roxette with Atay:-))

Per hates Simply Red and Mariah Carey.

Why does he hate them? Did he have any reason? Or are their music just isn’t his taste?

Same here! I also hate Mariah! She is soooooo.........crappy:))) And Oh I like her riding those bikes in the Big Black Guys and Her era:)
She should try shooting porn stuff, really!

I’ve just discovered another quote from SG about Roxette.

——————–START QUOTE——————–
When asked about others who have described the group as a slightly hipper version of the Scandinavian group Roxette, (Daniel) Jones responds: “At least the word ’hipper’ is there.”
———————END QUOTE———————

http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Lot/9422/sgarticles.html

Yeah, I can’t stand Simply Red either. That song “Holding back the years” really annoys me. And, my wife hates Mariah Carey too, so I guess combined, we’re in the same boat as Per:)
I totally agree that Mariah should switch to porn though! Heck, she’s already got plenty of practice by screwing every Tom, Dick and Harry at Sony, just so they’d promote her records. Now she should put all that practice to good use and do some good porn. Would be cool to see her, Brittney and Christina do a threesome:)
Oh, and yes, the reason Brittney hits off her first 2 albums were “catchy” tunes was because they were written and produced by Swedes. The reason “I’m a Slut 4u” sucked is because Brittney wrote it herself. End of story!
Bottom line is, all of these other artists that have bashed Roxette are just jealous. The only 1 of them that’s remotely successful was SG and now they’re gone:) (except for that Darren character anyway)

as posted earlier in this topic :

Per’s reply to what the Wannadies said :

“The Wannadies are a great band because they’re not very far away from what we do, only we have better songs and sell millions more records”

>:)

Hmmm...I guess this Simply Red thing from Per is just jealousy...’coz until where I know, their ’95 hit, Rollercoaster, took Almost Unreal #1, wasn’t it? And even being a boob song, I guess...well, not as exciting as it is proposed to be. And Per doesn’t like to feel...hmmm...not recognized...remember what he said in DBUGTTC booklet, about Don Johnson and that thing he said about being crankly swedish when he’s in Sweden (from that airplane magazine, with the Punk!Per!Pop report)...so...

No, I understand Per about that Simply Red. I just can’t stand them either and they didn’t steal me any number one. It’s just that many people can’t stand them at all :DDD

Per once said he felt Roxette was the missing element between Paula Abdul and Tom Petty.

Eurythmics once said they hoped people weren’t mixing them with Roxette.

Cathy Dennis once stated in Smash Hits that Joyride was the worst album of the year, and that Roxette were her most hated group! Ah, well Cathy - at least Roxette are still performing their material, and not simply writing it for Kylie!

Never heard of Cathy Dennis!?

I must say, that I really started to laught when they asked SG for the meaning of life:)
_ to listen to your heart
- to join the joyride... heheh

But I think they are chicken that they dont admit that Roxette IS one of their biggest influences. Esp. when it is so obvious in songs like I Want, You, Hold Me and Chained to you.

Who’s Cathy Dennis???
What are her popular songs except for the songs she wrote for Kylie. Did she have any records herself?

I think in her part. She is probably jealous of Roxette that’s why she said negative things about their “Joyride” album.

Also, about ’Simply Red’. I don’t mind them at all. However, I only like one song from that band which is ’Stars’. The one that goes “I wanna fall from the stars, straight into your arms I, I feel you, I hope you comprehend”...... sounds familiar?
I thought it is a bit ironic that Per don’t like Simply Red while they have a song with the same title.

Also, when my brother bought Simply Red’s album he expected me to listen to it all the time. Then one time he asked me how come I’m not listening to it. He thought I was shy because he bought the CD and I have to ask for his permission. Little did he know I just didn’t like the album.... but I told him I love STARS and never told him what I really thought of the album.

The delightful Ms Dennis had a large hit circa the Joyride era with “Too Many Walls”, and was regarded as a big thing in the UK at the time. How we can laugh now ...

Cathy also tried for a comeback with a cover of “Waterloo Sunset”, before becomming a song writer (most famously, the Kylie anthum “Can’t Get You Outta My Head”).

Yeah, but Stars was released before Roxette’s.

And it is a beautiful song, too.

I wouldn’t buy a SR’s album, but I don’t see reason to criticize’em. They are excellent musicians, and their style is limitless...well, maybe I don’t manage to mind them as rockers, but they play sweet, it’s...nice song.

First of all, I’m not criticising Simply Red. You’re right, they play sweet and nice songs. We even recorded one of their concert.

I use to think Simply Red is just that guy (the singer). I didn’t know it was a band.
Also, did you know that Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall (the singer) dated Catherine Zeta Jones?

i presume that what marie said about britney is that mrs. spears s’ being a bi-yatch >;)

(well aren’t shitney & Mariah bi-yatches?)
