What do you think about Cyndi Lauper’s music?
I like her a lot. She’s a great singer with an amazing voice. She had huge hits back in the good old days. :) Songs like Time After Time, True Colors, She Bop, Girls Just Want To Have Fun and one of my absolutely favourites Heading West.
If you want you can check out the video to Heading West here:

She relesed The Body Acoustic cd this year including all her biggest hits.
I just bought her dvd Cyndi Lauper Live...At Last. What a great show and it really shows what an awesome artist she is.

I ADORE Cyndi........her Sisters Of Avalon & Shine albums are my faves. She’s mae so many awesome songs and is entirely under-rated. Glad there are others who appreciate her!

I love “Sisters of Avalon” (“Shine” - not so much, just the title track... not surprised this album wasn’t released anywhere but Japan). She’s a truly underrated vocalist, unique and powerful. Her version of “I Drove All Night” is 100... no, 1000... no, fully ONE MILLION times better than Céline Dion’s, which is abysmal. Cyndi’s version is sultry and you can feel the anticipation in her voice... Céline trying to be sexy is... ugh!!

agree ref. IDAN song.....Celine’s is vile. The Shine cd is really great when you listen to a few times - Eventually & Valentino alone make the album worth buying. A true gem of an artist

I’m going to have to dig out my bootlegged copy of “Shine” now and give it another chance (-:

she’s always been a hit or miss artists for me. I forgot all about her until I saw her on queer as folk and my friend saw her on chers farewell tour. She has a new album out this month thats getting excellent reviews. The 80’s really need a resurgence in terms of music

oh I really like her. I think I have to buy some more albums by her. any idea which is the best? the accoustic one?

bunny2 –>The Body Acoustic is pretty good. It has a killer version of the song “She Bop”. If you don’t have many of her albums, maybe you should buy one of hers Best of albums. There is a few of them out there for good prices. I saw that soon they will release “a box” including all of her first 5 albums. That one could be a good purchase.
I’m also looking forward for the brand new album “Bring Ya To The Brink”. What i’ve heard sounds GREAT!

she released a new album this week Bring Ya To The Brink which is fullon dance. It is fantastic. Also adore her Shine and Sisters of Avalon albums in particular.......such a gr8 talent

Her best albums are “She’s So Unusual”, “True Colors” and “Hat Full Of Stars” (this one is a masterpiece). The worst are “Sisters of Avalon” and “At Last” (the most boring material she has ever released!).
Let’s hope for a DVD release with ALL her (bizarre and creative) videos. I have the “12 Deadly Cyns... and Then Some” DVD and, even if nice, it’s far from being complete.

Her new album ’Bring Ya to the Brink’ came this week, and its fantastic, modern up to date great.

I agree...Cyndi should release a dvd with all her videos. It could also include cool tv/live performances and stuff. It would also be nice to get her older liveshows on dvd. The only live-dvd I have and know of is “Cyndi Lauper: Live...At Last”.

This is the first video from the new Cyndi album. The song is called “Into The Nightlife”.

According to many sources (Wikipedia, for example), it seems the first international single off the album was ’Same Ol’ Story’ - imo, a million times better than ’Into The Nightlife’. But there’s no video for such a good track! I wonder why, it’s a strange decision.
I am not that fond of this video. It’s a bit cheap, too Madonna-like.
coyboyusa said on June 9, 2008 09:50:
she’s always had notorious problems with her record lables so god knows after this album she’ll be dropped again. And look at the video, it’s very gay themed, basically the only people who buy her albums anymore are gay people. Shine only got so popular after she appeard on the usa version of queer as folk.
so say we all
7-Twenty-7 said on June 9, 2008 19:46:
Even if I don’t like to label music as ’gay/straight/whatever themed’, I think we can say the same about many artists. For example, I don’t see many straight men crashing into the stores to grab a copy of Madonna’s ’Hard candy’. Or any family man humming “4 Minutes” in the shower. Of course, Madonna has an ever-growing promotional machinary to back up her releases, so she will sell millions as always (even if I find her music absolutely soulless, just a product).
coyboyusa said on June 10, 2008 09:31:
true but unlike cyndi, madonna made sure she was 100% in control of everyhting from day one. Madonna is a shrewd businesswoman and she knows who to pander to. Cyndi is one of those hit or miss artists, she makes a reallt great album like she’s so unusual, then she makes 2 or 3 bombs in a row, gets dropped by her lable, makes something liek shine that get’s ignored but has a cult following, gets signed and the first thing she made is a cover of standards that were outside her voical range and bombed and now she finally makes an album that suits her on a lable that will undoubtedly ignore her after 1 single.
so say we all

LOL, I agree on everything you’ve said! You are so right, the ’At Last’ album is not the best she has done, for sure. I find it absolutely boring... well, sincerely, I never managed to play it in its entirety. I like soulfull music, but that album is something I really can’t cope with! It’s a shame both ’A Night To Remember’ and ’Hat Full Of Stars’ (I love ’Sally’s Pigeons’) bombed, because they are full of great tracks. Only ’I Drove All Night’ charted in a decent way...
Last night I was watching a TV show and I realised they were playing ’Same Ol’ Story’ as background music. It’s a good sign, I hope the song is gonna get (some) airplay!!!

Yeah, I like Cyndi, she’s cool. I like her line in We are the world, with Michael Jackson and co. Girls just wanna have fun is my fave and I like I drove all night too.
Happy new year!
