Hi!! Anyone knows if gessle’s book will be releaed in english?? I don’t want to buy the book in swedish only to see photos and listen the cd!!
Per should release the book in english. what do you think??
tevensso (moderator) said on October 30, 2007 10:13:
It will be released in English, and Spanish and German - when hell freezes over.
Sorry no, I doubt this book will ever make it abroad.
CoyRoy said on October 30, 2007 10:53:
With the effects of global warming, I doubt if hell with EVER get near freezing point.
Is ANYONE willing to share the pics in the book with the rest of the world then?
Or am I asking too much?
pwbbounce (moderator) said on October 30, 2007 11:20:
There is no demand at all, except from some of the people on the site, to release Per’s book outside of Sweden. There is no point at all. Maybe if Roxette were still active it would be a different matter, but to the vast majority of the world Roxette finished more than 10 years ago. I’m getting a copy of the book, but only because I want to. I know a little bit of Swedish, probably no where near enough to understand the book, but I’m still going to get it.
abysmo said on October 30, 2007 11:24:
Please, no scaning the pics. Copying kills the books. :-DDD

I remember Agnetha Fältskog (the blond former ABBA member) had her biography writen by the Swedish author Brita Åhman. It was titled “Som jag är” and saw the light of say in 1996. And, indeed, the English translation “As I Am - ABBA: Before and Beyond” was released in 1997 by Virgin Publishing, UK.
Do you think there was more demand of Agnetha’s bio than Gessle’s? Well, it is possible now that I think about it...
tomos85 said on November 4, 2007 12:08:
Well, I’ve read Fältskog’s book long ago. Yesterday I finished reading Gessle’s biography and I am still not able to compare those two books. Gessle’s one is much more in-depth, with really interesting facts and amazing photos. Agnetha showed us only amazing photos... :)
@abysmo
Oh my, so that means that I’ve killed so many books in my life :)
Gachy said on November 4, 2007 12:48:
I have never read the Agnetha’s book myself. But I wanted to point at the fact it was translated into English, even if there was not a huge market for it out there. That’s a reply to whom that still claim there’s no reason for a translation of the Gessle bio, because nobody would be interested on it.
tevensso (moderator) said on November 4, 2007 13:04:
No one ever knew who Per Gessle is outside of Sweden. Even during Rox’s heydays they thought he was a guitarist, nothing more. So who would buy a book about “Per Gessle” then...
Jud (moderator) said on November 4, 2007 14:42:
of course Agneta sells more than Per.. Agneta is ABBA, ABBA is a cult band, they still have very active fanbases in Australia and in the US.. while Per.. as Tev says, nobody knows who he is and if SOAP was of any interest, it was because of Roxette, I could see it when he came to Austria to promote SOAP. All reporters were interested about was Roxette, when will Roxette record something new, what is Marie doing, Rox Rox Rox. Even when Rox was successful people weren’t much interested about him. I doubt his biography in English would sell more than the Look for Roxette ;)

When you speak about Roxette, everybody is like “Oh, yes, I like HER music.”
Nobody knows or cares or even notice Per, over here in SA - only the hardcore fans.
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve explained to that Roxette is actually a group and not JUST Marie... LOL
But I still hope his book will be published in English, or maybe a downloadable English translation, then.

Yeah, good idea. What about english .pdf file.

There was an interview with Per on today’s “Nyhetsmorgon” (TV4) about the new biography:

For those who haven’t bought the book yet, but want to read or just look how it looks like - it’s possible to read over 40 pages from Per’s biography on AdLibris website:
http://www.adlibris.se/bookbrowser/default.aspx?isbn=9100117390
Enjoy!

Here’s an idea........if someone who speaks perfect Swedish would be happy to translate the entire book, say on here with how much money you want for it.
Then, everyone who wants a copy of the translation can divide this total and all pay a little bit each.
Obviously the price has to be reasonable and nobody is going to pay more for the translation than the book itself.
It will also make me very happy that the people who made this book will be getting no money from a lot of people who want to read it in ENGLISH!
tevensso (moderator) said on November 16, 2007 10:52:
Ha ha ha, sure. I could translate it. That’ll cost A LOT so sadly I can’t do it. Sorry. :)

Thank you, Sandra for the link :P
As for the translation of the book, well, I’m Lithuanian, so my work doesn’t cost that much as the Swede’s work :P However, I’m not the native speaker, and my Swedish is not that good to translate the whole book “Att Vara Per Gessle”, though I understand most of it even without dictionary.

The book is really great and Sven did a fantastic work. And about the translation - I doubt that there will be someone who would have time to do it as I think it would be work for full time....

I live outside of Sweden, very distant but, although i always knew that Per is not just guitarist, and you know i feel so sad that roxette, both Per or Marie doing everything for just their swedish fans.I love them so much and i’m sure that there are lots of huge fans outside of sweden but, however they don’t mind them, they will forget about roxette too.maybe Per don’t care about this. enough to have fans in his own country.
i like to get this book in english,i don’t know any word in swedish:(
pwbbounce (moderator) said on November 20, 2007 09:18:
I agree with Rossyrox. The only way were are EVER going to get an English version of this book is if some kind Swede makes a translation for us. As someone else said, this is going to be a full time job, and I don’t think it’d be an easy task either!!
tomos85 said on November 20, 2007 11:48:
But if ten people do this, it would take much less time... Of course, I wish you all the best. It’s really worth to translate this into English.
AURYTE said on November 20, 2007 17:22:
I was about to suggest the same as tomos85: if we could arrange a group of people who are able and interested in translating the book into English, then it would be a bit less work and it would go faster. Though I think, that it will be quite difficult to find 10 or so interested people.
PS And after all, would it be legal to translate the book into English?

Nope...unless you ask the permission of the author (and get it ;-)
I think that’s all you’d need to do, I’m not that up on publishing/copyright law...anyone?
quagmir said on November 24, 2007 14:28:
well years ago (when I was really crazy about Rox), I did translate their bio (The Book, 1992) from german to english, and I did it for free. Because I loved’em and thought it could help the non-swedish and non-german fans... and I’m neither german nor english, so maybe if my swedish was better I’d do it again, but unfortunately it isn’t so maybe some Swedes will do it one day ;)
PS : I’m sill crazy about Rox, but a lil older ;)
Emil__BG said on November 25, 2007 09:43:
Maybe a few people know who is Per Gesle but be sure nobody knows who is Agneta.
ABBA is ABBA. If you find 5 people who actually can say the names of 4 ABBA members -it will be miracle :-)
Ok.There won’t be big profit of such translation ,but how can you be sure before realise it?
If Per didn’t start making song on eglish ,he would stay the greatest in Sweden ,but with lets say 2-3 mln sold albums nowadays.
Can we compare it to 75 mln?
But lets say-there no profit.
How big will be loss?
I don’t thik that an millionaire and even ordinary swedish writer wiil be out of pocket by this translation.
Emil__BG said on November 25, 2007 09:43:
It’s the same with “no video clip” strategy.
Even the poorest singer makes videoclips in 2007-just to give to his fans “the hole package” and full satisfaction of his new singles.
rossyrox said on November 25, 2007 10:47:
Maybe someone in Sweden could give the book to an English class for them to translate it as a project, then the teacher can verify it’s ok :)
Quagmir -do you still have your translation of the 1992 book?
Emil__BG said on November 25, 2007 10:53:

Yes–do you still have your translation of the 1992 book?

you can find the translation on the littlemarie site, http://www.littlemarie.net
just go to the “extras” section, and browse down, there you’ll find it ; it’s been approved by the author.

For those who make the smart ass comment of things happening when hell freezes over, I’m here to tell you it freezes over EVERY WINTER:
This is Hell, Michigan.
It is located at:
42° 26’ 05”N
83° 59’ 06”W
Please feel free to use some other terminology, because I will believe that there will be a translation that will come out this winter.
And if you think I’m splitting hairs, tell that to a friend of mine who had to sign “re-up” papers with the United States Marine Corps, after he told his C.O. he will re-enlist when “Hell froze over”.
Have a nice day.

not really that interested in reading the whole thing anyway, but what i would appreciate is if someone could summarise (in a short paragraph) some of the most interesting parts. Are there indeed any interesting revelations. What I’d most like to know about is if it mentions/touches on any of the supposed tension between per and marie during the 90s? Apologies if details of the books contents have already been written here, but i havent been around for a while
nusaderenda said on December 4, 2007 08:22:
Yes, it mentions that Per couldn’t understand why Marie was having a baby with everything happening around Roxette. He was 110% focused on Roxette, and didn’t understand why she needed time to stay at home etc. He understood first when he had a child himself.
I’ve heard rumours about this before, but I was not sure if I could trust them, I think it sounds pretty harsh, but in the book Per says so himself. Clarence also mentions that noone understood Maries needs, because none of the others involved in Roxette had any children, but a couple of years later all of them had, and they understood better.
The tension was not all about children, I think, but I have read the chapter only briefly, so I can get back to more details when I’ve finished the book (it’s big and heavy, you know!). I haven’t discovered anything I didn’t really know, but everything is explained more detailed and thoroughly.
CoyRoy said on October 30, 2007 10:05:
I too think that the book should be released in English - it’s only far. Per have more fans outside of Sweden than inside, i should believe.
Release it in English, please!!!
