And the F1 begins...

Hi, folks. I’m back.

So, some of us are about to watch the first F1 qualifying and race of this season...

I’d like to you some of your bets, expectations, for this race (the Australian Grand Prix) and for the rest of the season:

1- Who’s gonna win the race?

2- Who’s gonna win the championship?

3- How is going to be F1 without Michael Schumacher?

4- And the new drivers? What we should expect from Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen?

5- How about the “new challenges” for Kimi Raikkönen and Fernando Alonso?
6- Who’s going to disappoint?

7- And how about the new track? Fuji Speedway replacing Suzuka at the end of the season?

My bets are:

1- Felipe Massa or Kimi Haikkönen;

2- Felipe Massa or Fernando Alonso or Kimi Haikkönen;

3- It will be better for the sport... He is so good, so, we will have the chance to watch more drivers winning the races, so, I guess we have the chance to get to Interlagos with more than two drivers fighting for the championship;

4- Lewis Hamilton will get a great carrier, he seems so focused and he’s already on the first positions at the free practices... Heikki Kovalainen? I must wait and see... but he will beat Giancarlo Fisichella ( just like Fernando Alonso did)...

5- Both of them will going to adapt fastly to their teams, to the car, but I guess that it will be easier for Fernando Alonso.

6- As I wrote before, the guy who’s going to disappoint (again) is Giancarlo Fisichella... I even guess that he can be fired after the middle of the season...

7- I got good expectations for the new track. Fuji Speedway has the longest straight of all the season (1,5km) with a hairpin at the end... I guess the race will be better that the last one we watched at Suzuka (which is a good track for the drivers, not for the audience, in my humble opinion)...

So many questions...

And how about you, guys? What are your bets and expectations?

Alexandre D. Costa

I’ve got a question? Why men love cars so much? I would like to understand it.

That’s not a men’s thing... That’s just a matter of taste...

If you haven’t watched it yet, don’t read this!
I don’t actually follow the behind the scenes or pre race stuff, but I do like the actual race itself. Watched every minute!
I’d like to start by saying congratulations to Mark Webber. He actually finished an entire race lol! 13th place is better than his usual crash on the first lap!
Go Kimi! He’s a slow, boring talker, but man can he drive fast (and that’s what they pay him for anyway)!
What about that Hamilton, 3rd place on his debut! But can he keep it up?
Hopefully Kovalainan will improve. He had a few lucky escapes today, could have been worse.
There’s serious talk of having next year’s Australian GP under lights, starting at 8pm Aussie time, so that the race can go out live to the rest of the world. Should be interesting!

Debora, I also love fast cars, and I’m definetly not a man :) It’s not a mens thing.

1- Who’s gonna win the race?
Yeah!

2- Who’s gonna win the championship?
Massa

3- How is going to be F1 without Michael Schumacher?
Great! Schumi was a great driver, but not very fair.

4- And the new drivers? What we should expect from Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen?
I like Kovalainen, but this race wasn’t good at all! I hope he’s better on next races

5- How about the “new challenges” for Kimi Raikkönen and Fernando Alonso?
Alonso wins.

6- Who’s going to disappoint?
Räikkönen.

7- And how about the new track? Fuji Speedway replacing Suzuka at the end of the season?
Dunno yet :)

Oh yes, there’s talk of having F1 races under lights, the Australian and probably the next new venue - Singapore... I think it could be interesting, but it can make those races to have another “status”, they could be treated as “different” races from the rest... There won’t be that “visual appealling”, since the landscape around the track wouldn’t be totally visible. Just imagine the Monaco GP under lights...

It’s definately NOT just a men’s thing... this F1 circus. I’ve been following the races for a few years now and even been to the race in Spain back in 2001. Very fun and interesting. And yes, I set the alarm so that I can get up and watch the races live even if they sometimes begin at 4 am here in Sweden. Like this weekend for example.

Now, we have the result from this first race, but I’ll answer the Q’s anyway.
1- Who’s gonna win the race?
Kimi Räikkönen (well, he did, but I would have said him anyway)

2- Who’s gonna win the championship?
Philippe Massa

3- How is going to be F1 without Michael Schumacher?
Empty to begin with, but I suppose I’ll get used to that aswell sooner or later.

4- And the new drivers? What we should expect from Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen?
I think Lewis Hamilton has potential to be a great driver. Kovalainen... I don’t know anything about him.

4- And the new drivers? What we should expect from Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen?
I hope Kimi will do great.. and I will not be sad if Alonso don’t. Though, It would be fun if there will be some competition between them to begin with anyway.

6- Who’s going to disappoint?
I’m affraid my answer has to be Philippe Massa. As much as I want him to win the championship, and I do think he has the potential, I have my doubts.

7- And how about the new track? Fuji Speedway replacing Suzuka at the end of the season?
Have no idea. But it’s fun with new tracks because the teams don’t have that much data from previous seasons, so it really shows which team are the best at the moment. So it’s good.

To end this post, I’d just like to say one thing:

GO FERRARI GO!!

Oops, what a bore...
Call me when overtaking is back in this sport. Until then I’ll be watching NASCAR and ChampCar instead...

I wish i could watch Champ Car here in Brazil...

According to www.champcarworldseries.com in Brazil the channel that has the broadcasting rights for Champ Car is FX.
However there is only one Brazilian driver, Bruno Junqueira, and he’s not on the best team anymore.

On the other hand there are at least 3 good Brazilian drivers in Indycar. Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves and Vitor Meira :P

All that Champ Car DOESN’T need on its new ’era’ is Bruno Junqueira... He’s a terrible driver...

I like Indy Car a little... Their oval races look like those assembled track sets for kids, where the drivers are the characters and the spotters are the kids...

Now that is something that’s really boring... oval cirquits!! oh my. And we go around and around and around and around and.... oh yea.. around.

@ Santi: “Call me when overtaking is back in this sport.”
Huh? There’s plenty of overtaking man!
