For those of you interested in the U.S. Roxette news...Roxette’s U.S. record label, Capitol Records, has finally updated their artists section of their web site to include the upcoming release of “A Collection of Roxette Hits” under the Roxette discography. Though no release date is given, we now know it to be Tuesday January 16, 2007.
For those of you not familiar with the U.S retail scene, January is the slowest month for sales and even though Roxette’s CD will be the most notable release on January 16th it will most certainly be ignored by consumers. Thusly, One Wish has virtually no chance of garnering any buzz once it hits radio. The problem with One Wish is that radio here is so highly categorized that it will have trouble finding a home on either adult alternative or hot a/c so most stations probably won’t touch it. When it does reach radio next month, as soon as I start hearing it I’ll report the details.
Roxette hasn’t charted here in nearly 7 years, back when Wish I Could Fly reached #27 on the a/c chart. I’m afraid the drought might continue...I hope that I’m wrong.
Lastly, if you haven’t already read this in other threads there will be no RoxBox for the U.S. and no NTSC version produced at all.

i have a feeling that this US release is gonna be a joke. bestbuy.com and amazon.com already has a $14.99 listed and available, dated Oct and Nov for release date. There’s a supposedly another copy which is twice as much (but exactly the same CD) listed coming Jan 2006 ...

Bunny, the currently available CDs are imports that don’t contain the bonus DVD. The official U.S. release in January will contain the audio CD as well as the DVD (NTSC) for only $14.99! That’s an attractive price point for 20 songs and a DVD!

their last 2 albums and One Wish single has a more european sound. I don´t see how this will work in the charts in USA today.
And you have to have a massive advertising/promotion campain to sell any records today.

If Roxette came to the States and did some promotion for the new album, like doing the talk show circuit and throwing in a few performances, I think it would go a long way in helping to sell this record. But I don’t see Marie flying over here and going through the rigors of a promo schedule, which would be quite grueling if her health is in question.
I know this sounds a little tasteless, but I think if the American public knew about Marie’s brain tumor and her miraculous comeback that they’d latch on to the human interest side of the Roxette story and run with it. For better or for worse, Marie is Roxette in America and that’s who they remember from It Must Have Been Love. This country falls in love with the comeback story and if it was made known in conjunction with the release of the new CD...well, there’s no telling how much additional press it would generate for Roxette and the new single. Just a thought...

Yeah, I think most U.S. fans realize that “One Wish” probably won’t do much at radio. At best, it will get some spins at AC and Hot AC formats. I hope I’m wrong, but unfortunately that’s how it works here.
