The other day i met this guy, and i asked him if he knew Roxette. He said “Roxette died” well...he is an 30 years old american. i explained to him why roxette wanst playing in the USA anymore... the whole “EMI” deal!! well but thats not my question. he also made me think about Roxette style, and i told him i miss the “the look, dangerous, lies,”kinda of style! you know, “the guitar sound”
and that know its only dancy style like”i got a crush on you, stars and 727, and also real sugar”
so did roxette chage its style, so they could keep in the business? if they kept their old style, would they still be famous?? or they HAD to change their style because people change and TIME change so MUSIC change? i hope you people know what im trying to say, i just want your opinion about Roxette change of music style....
okay?
thanks

Well, TIME change, PEOPLE change, FANS change and of course MARIE AND PER changed too! So, think that´s it!
rox74ever said on January 2, 2002 16:54:
yeah.. i was thinking about that... but i miss the “guitar” sound. Like the RS cd, there’s only jefferson on that style. But i guess that’s not what the rest of the world wants
regn said on January 2, 2002 18:07:
well they do what they want to do THATS GREAT; when they do what the “world” want they do... bye bye roxette (i know that never happen)

I miss the guitar sound , too. And also think that if they had kept their “old” style it would have been better. You say fans change , dance style is actual now - more fans, but these are songs that last one season and I don’t think Roxette is one season group ! People like hard !!! They want someting to remember , something to touch them !!!

Roxette didn’t evolve.... that’s sad. They changed... but didnt evolve.
Marie solo evolved..... Per solo evolved.... but somehow I feel that Roxette didn’t.

All you guys do is comparing the old rox sales to the new rox sales...
And yes I think rox did change from album to album! But through all albums the was a red line called: roxette.
I still believe that songs like, anyone-MWMLML-WICF-Lucky-Try nad BMDTMK (to name a few) are some of the best ballads rox has ever made. And can easily be compared to watercolours-perfect day-CBB etc...
And songs like 727-COY-Jefferson- are certainly cooler versions of the look-dangerous-HDYD!!!
Just imagine roxette releasing COY back in 1990...I bed it would be a HUGE hit...which would stlii be played in bars/disco’s all over the world!
And just imagine the look being released in 2001....it would never be that big nowadays.
It has nothing to do with their music (maybe a little) but has more to do with media.
Allright...I really hate songs like stars and MMHGP cos of their stupid techno sounds...(but why do I love KIXX, COY and 727???)...but Stars would be a huge hit if Mel C had released it.........
That’s it,

Just to make sure....... I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT SALES.... i don´t pay attention to sale numbers to judge quality

Super Ferdan!
But i am happy, if i can see Roxette on top of
some charts. it satisfies me :-)
Close2U said on January 4, 2002 21:47:
@ferdan: no offense at all mate!
But everytime I see a rox single flop...it makes me angry. Now you can say that is talking about sales...but what i mean is that rox is critisized by the media for making bubblegum music, bad lyrics...blabla...but for isn’t that what popmusic is alll about??? 99% of all pop music has stupid lyrics and sounds bubblegum! If I want good lyrics...I just have to read a good book! If I want difficult chords and brilliantly composed masterpieces...I go and buy Bach or Strauss!!
No....I want fun music with fun yrics, which can make me feel good...or make me feel sad...and Rox can achieve that with their music...I can’t change that....
Well, I’m gonna quit now cos I’m over-eacting again. Cheerzzzz... I’m gonna get myself a nice cup of coffee....

I absolutely miss the guitar sound! I guess they have to change style every now and then if they want to survive, but why that techno stuff? When I first heard Wish I could fly I thought they were heading for the right direction! That’s still Roxette, but with a new, modern, fresh sound. But Stars etc are bad attemps to make techno. Please, forget the dance stuff!

Guys :
I miss the guitars a lot !! I miss songs like “She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”, “Dangerous”, “The Look”, etc... And after CBB album we only had “Pay The Price” and “Jefferson” as examples of a good “guitar” song.
But anyway, Roxette’s quality still as good as it was back in 1990... “Real Sugar”, “Milk And Toast And Honey”, “Wish I Could Fly”, “June Afternoon”... all these songs are WONDERFUL... the “Room Service” album is absolutelly great... as great as “Joyride” in my humble opinion... the difference right now is the MEDIA... people nowadays preffer to hear about scandals, virginity, and all that crap, to hear a good song.... Roxette is no longer a “cool” band for the media because they don’t get involved in such nasty things. Or can someone explain why “The World According To Gessle” (a pearl) flopped ? Or how about “Real Sugar” ? How about “She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” ? ...
I think that it doesn’t matter how good will be Roxette’s next singles, they will flop... and not because of their quality, but because, Roxette is no longer a band that sells magazines, or things like that, like Backstreet Boys or Britney.
But to me, it’s not important... I love Roxette music and that’s what I care about. I would love to see Rox on the top again, but I don’t want to see them changing their way only to get there.
About music stile... they’re changing it, of course, with this techno beats (that I hate)... but I still love their songs anyway, can’t explain that ! :) But I hope to see more guitars songs like “Looking For Jane” than dance ones like crappy “Stars” in the future !! :)
Well, I don’t care about Mtv, about press, about EMI, I only care about Roxette’s songs !! :)
All the best

I agree with close2u and gessle on many things. I’ve learned over the years is not to have expectations...I don’t expect albums to sound a certain way, or sales to reach a certain number, or expect much promotion.
In everything in life I just expect the worst and just hope for the best.

Maybe we all miss the guitars... Or most of us. me too. I need something stronger that touches my heart. This doesn’t mean that I don’t like Room Sevice, no, it is great album. But what about Crash! and Tourism and Joyride? Whoaaaaa I love them!!!
I think people still love the guitar sound. It touches you, it stays in your heart for a long time. Come on, people don’t like that much Destiny’s Child, Britney Spears, etc., songs. The world will forget them in 3-4 years. Remember Spice Girls and their third album. But Roxette stays for 15 years!!! and I think if they keep their ’guitar’ sound things will go better. The world still needs something which is not just ’one-day’. and the ’guitar’ sound is not.

Ferdan, was Roxette supposed to evolve? Evolve to what?
I think they’ve done okay.

the change in the music is just NATURAL; when they started they were:2 swedish, but now they’re ROXETTE(trade marK) almost the whole world knows ’bout them, so they were”inspired by”... now they are the inspiration, now they’ve children, they pass the 40’s... bla bla... don’t u think?????????
