album deal

I was trying to remember - just after C!B!B! release Per mentioned that they signed a new multi-album deal with EMI.
I can’t help but wonder that if the three different verison of the ’new’ greatesthits actually will then take them out of contract.
What are the implications of that? Maybe a new record deal, or, the end?

I think compilations are a different kettle of fish, aren’t they?

Yes. I heard from a record company guy that compilations aren’t counted as albums for the contracts.

as far as ive heard.. compilations do count as albums.. the reason why so many other artists release a greatest hits so that they can leave the company and move on to another..

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle - record companies love compilations because they have low production costs compared to new albums. I think every contract is different, with some allowing for compilations in the deal, others forbidding them, and still others requiring them. “DBUGTTC” wasn’t released in the States for so long because Per and Marie were hoping to be able to use it as a “carrot” to dangle in front of record companies... sort of, “You can have the hits collection if you release two of our original albums...”

Isn’t it so that “Greatest Hits” albums DO count if it countains new material? Like All previous releases did.. they all had at least 2 news song on it, which means after C!B!B! there have been 6 albums released meanwhile, and the RoxBox will be nr 7.. Imagine: 2 actual new albums (HAND and RS) and the others we got served were just Greatest Hits albums. How many albums did this multi-album deal concluded? I hope it’ll end soon so that indeed another record label (of one is still interested AT ALL) will sign roxette so that we are cured from this “GH” curse..
