Sorry, but box-sets are not aimed for hardcore fans. As I said before, they are for people not enough interested in get “all” the albums from a certain artists. But, one way or another, they want to get more than the hits you could find in 1-CD compilation. As Sascha said, it’s an introduction into Roxette’s career.

According to Wikipedia:

“In the case of music, boxed sets are usually made up of three or more discs, covering a broad range of the music of a given artist or genre. Artists and bands with a extremely long and successful career often have anthology or “essential” collections of their music released as box sets. These often include including rare and never-before-released tracks.”

It also includes a list of sets released by various artists. You can check the tracklists and see by yourself if they include the hits or not.

I don’t read they are intended to the hardcore fans. If they are “just for fans”, then I wonder why they also include the hits and other material that any fan already have. And that’s a rule, not an exception in the boxed-sets. And they are not “as expensive” as some you pretend. They cost like 3 normal CD albums. So, if “Mr. Average” is interested in Roxette music, but he wants more than the big hits, he has 2 options: the box-set (it might cost 50-60 euros) or 8 albums (about 15 euros each).

Roxwritter, if you get the box there is not need to get all the other releases. The hits + the 2 new songs will be included in the box too. In addition, in the box you will find much more material.

On behalf of all the simpletons in the world, i.e. ME :-)

Can someone please clarify that if I purchase the Rox-Box, will that mean I basically get all the same songs, books & DVD as purchasing the other 3 releases individually?

Does that make sense?

I want the Rox Box but does that mean I need to also buy the Deluxe GH Edition too? Or does buying the Box mean you basically get it all in one?

Please anyone with half a brain slowly and calmly try to explain it to me... :-)

Cheers.

I would also like to know, because I don’t really get it:

Those 78 songs in the Rox Box... the videos are counted in as songs, right?
So basically some songs will be repeated I guess up to 3 times inside of the box. Am I right?

I guess that’s the only way to make 78 songs fit in... how many discs did they say the Rox Box would contain (including DVDs)?

I don’t think anyone knows for sure, but I’m willing to bet that the GH will be included in the Rox Box, negating the need to buy any of the other releases. I DIDN’T think the videos were included in the 78 track tally because Per said “78 songs including 14 unreleased ones + all the videoclips Roxette has done + the entire MTV Unpugged show.” so the mystery is whether the 20 hits from the hits CD is included in the 64 songs not accounted for... my guess is that it is, leaving 44 miscellaneous B-sides, live recordings, remixes, etc. ...I do think it will be a really interesting collection, even if most of what’s included is already available elsewhere.

I have the complete opposite feeling: I think the RoxBox won’t include the GH (except for the videos); the RoxBox it’s targeted for fans & collectors whereas the GH is for regular people.

It wouldn’t make sense to include the GH in the RoxBox, since fans already own the many different compilations they’ve released. Plus if they don’t include it, they force us to buy both the RoxBox and the GH... $$$$.

But you never know, EMI defies all logic when it comes to Roxette’s releases.

I would be inclined to agree with you, etrejos, except that there are so few Roxette fans left who would be willing to shell out a lot of money for a box set, it seems like the best bet would be to try to hit the broadest market possible by including some of the things that made Roxette successful in the first place (as you said, though, including the videos kind of does that anyway).

Sorry, but I don’t think “the RoxBox it’s targeted for fans & collectors”. I am totally sure you will find the hits and the main album tracks in the box too. There’s no way you can leave their most successful work out of the box. It doesn’t make sense. The set is not for fans. It’s for people interested in Roxette who wants something bigger than a 1-CD compilation (but not to buy all the Roxette albums). I wonder how many times I have said this lately...

LOL...thanks for all the replies but still really confused.

Tevensso or Judith, can you guys please clarify with either EMI or PG?

I’m not concerned about price or whatever, I’ll buy whatever I need to, it’s just that I don’t want to double up and it seems I’m not the only one who is confused.

Cheers.

@Room_service - you can say it all you like, but it’s not true. It is most certainly targeted at ’fans & collectors.’
As if a casual buyer’s gonna fork out a heap of cash for a box set when they can pick up a cheap greatest hits CD.
’Fans & collectors’ are (in theory) quite happy to be buying heaps of tracks they already own, because the songs have (again, in theory) been remastered and sound fabulous in comparison to their album counterparts.

I´m with Zargo here.

@Zargo: Now I’m a fan of yours. I totally agree with you.

The question is: Are all the contents (materials) in the alternate releases, without expetions, packaged within the RoxBox?

Take care!
Carlos E., New York.

I agree with Zargo, how many average people are going to shell out the big bickies (translation = spend a lot) for a big fat box of songs by a band that hasn’t had a hit for years? Maybe in Sweden. Even I’m not sure I’ll buy it, I can’t really figure out what I’m getting that I don’t already have. Remastered songs...whoopdeedoo, so they sound a little better. Videos...I have them all.

maybe it is to early...
but we needed a god explanetion when the time for buying it comes!!!
cos i’m sick of wondering once again what to buy, what is in one item, what is in other...

if we have in mind the stupid marketing policy of EMI ,i can guess that in every version will be at least one diffrent song ,which goal will be to urge us to buy all items...
But this policy someday will urge us to become captain Jack II :-)

We don’t know either. I’m hoping that the GH isn’t in the box set.

We’ll know soon enough, the tracklists should appear weeks before the release... Regarding the hardcore fan/casual buyer discussion: Per Gessle himself said that the Rox Box should be an introduction to Roxette and will include the best of their work.

“Sorry, but box-sets are not aimed for hardcore fans.”

If that was the case they would have left the 14 unreleased tracks and the Unplugged concert... I don’t think u should make your unfavourable comments before you have all the information - you are really making a fool out of youself!

room_service: it depends on the band. I doubt Bon Jovi’s box was aimed to normal listeners. For Roxette I think it’s a mix, I don’t know what the box will feature, but my guess is that both sectors will be happy with it, or at least that is the idea behind..

Judith is right, I’m sure the hope is that both fans and the public will buy it. But honestly, how many non-fans would be interested? A GH, sure, because a lot of people like the old songs. But an ultra-expensive boxset...I doubt it. It depends, like Jud said. I mean I’m sure a lot of ppl bought MF’s solo boxset, it was a good way to get all her albums. But this one contains stuff that won’t interest the public much.

It looks like the GH is going to be in the box after all:

http://www2.dailyroxette.com/smalltalk/thread.php/16386?p=1

if the hits cd is gonna be in the box I for one won’t but it and GASP will use p2p services to collection the rare tracks because after all I’ve dug in to buy 2 hits collections and the ballad hits I REFUSE to be swindled again
