UK Roxette 2006 Confirmation from Dimberg
thomasc said on August 3, 2006 09:23:
Hi all,
Just had an e-mail back from Marie Dimberg regarding UK Rox releases for 2006.
We (in the UK) will only get the 20th Anniversary Greatest Hits Package. No single.
Also, she said no dates are currently known for the radio promotion of “One Wish”.
I have the e-mail if anyone questions the above.
Thanks
Sascha said on August 3, 2006 11:45:
Does that mean no commercial single or no radio single? When the single is released at iTunes Europe and is a great song it could be a UK hit without being released on CD. Remember Crazy/Gnarls Barkley! Even the Rox Medley is available at iTunes UK...
chrisjankunas said on August 3, 2006 11:56:
Damn - I actually thought they might have released “One Wish” over here - Does this include the RoxBox then?
ally77 said on August 3, 2006 13:41:
Well if the UK is seeing no Rox Box then I have no intention of buying the GH from the UK sellers either.... I personally don’t want to help it into the charts...
If we’re not good enough for all the releases then my money ain’t good enough to buy any UK release!
I’ll buy everything from CDON!

Imagine being in the US. We’re not going to see ANY of it here.

Hi,
Could you please tell me if a UK release is planned for the Rox 20th Anniversary? Also, when is the radio release date for One Wish?
Many thanks for your time.
Best wishes,
Thomas

I doesn’t say that One Wish isn’t being released in the UK.
But I’m not holding up much hope now
eBay said on August 3, 2006 14:12:
Of course the single will not be planned to be released.. they will wait and see what happens in other countries first..
Sascha said on August 3, 2006 14:15:
Is that email all the info you got? I don’t read anything about the different items. That only confirms the release of >something
thomasc said on August 3, 2006 14:35:
The e-mail says that the UK will release the Anniversary Package - this refers to the new Greatest Hits CD and CD/DVD edition.
The Rox Box is a special release.
Also, if the UK were planning to release the single it would have been mentioned.
I doubt One Wish will be released here due to the lack of interest in the last group of singles released here in the UK.
roxtexanet said on August 3, 2006 14:39:
“Roxette Anniversary package” can mean just about anything - suppose in her mind the whole set of releases constitutes a “package”! All that e-mail says to me is that the UK is getting something, which is better than the alternative...
thomasc said on August 3, 2006 14:50:
Anniversary Package is the re-vamped hits release surely.
The rox box is a limited release.
The UK will be very lucky to even get that.
davidc4 said on August 3, 2006 15:00:
im completley * off now all the support we give and what do we ever get except a kick in the teeth its a bloody insult.ROXETTE CAN GET * AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED I DONT GIVE A DAMN NOW

carlosconnelli said on August 3, 2006 15:05:
chill dude, i doubt its per or maries fault its not getting released here, why waste time on a country that has utter toss in the charts 99per cent of the time? least in europe it will sell, ill just buy it online
less of the net-rage eh?
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 3, 2006 15:25:
i can sort of see David’s point, maybe not agreeing with his choice of words though. lol!!
tevensso (moderator) said on August 3, 2006 15:35:
Don’t you think Roxette would WANT to release records all over the world? Do you actually think that they avoid certain countries out of spite???
thomasc said on August 3, 2006 15:37:
It’s a fact that Rox don’t do well single-wise in the UK anymore.
The Ballad Hits did very well as it was accompanied by a fairly good campaign that tied in with Valentines day. The Ballad and Pop Hits was a great Package - very well done in my opinion.
UK EMI don’t want to invest in Rox releases as they simply don’t get a good return.
The Anniversary Greatest Hits Package will be released, if we’re lucky with a little bit of promotion (not Per and Marie however).
I’m still very happy to have some new Roxette stuff being released. Am looking forward to the RoxBox - will be ordering from CDON :-)
ally77 said on August 3, 2006 15:41:
Did any UK roxette fans actually expect to see a single release here.... jeez, never in a million years, and even if it was released it would not make the charts because they are rigged, and the only airplay it would see would be radio 2!!!!!!!!!!! perhaps along with a complete piss take each time it was played!
Personally I’ll ordered everything from CDON!
room-service said on August 3, 2006 15:52:
I also don’t get it why “anniversary package” should just include the normal GH-CD, it could also mean “the whole package” with every planned release for the anniversary.
So, I’d wait a little before I start to rail against it - at least until we get a clearly verbalized statement about it.
Vixzter said on August 3, 2006 16:07:
i expect the rox box will actauly have the same cat# number as the european relase thus making it exactly the same LOL
and i expect we will all buy it from cdon or wherever as it will probably be a month late here or soemthing along those lines
Vixzter said on August 3, 2006 16:09:
it makes you wonder why they bother really cos it must cost EMI alot of money to actualy release yet another greatest hits cd to a market thats already been flogged to death
appologies for c rap spelling on last post, i’d edit it but like EMI i cant be arsed! ;-)
chrisjankunas said on August 3, 2006 16:27:
Hmm Anniversary package to me sounds like them all possibly - I hope so anyhow !
onlywhenidream said on August 3, 2006 16:41:
well I am very dissapointed, obviously Roxette can’t call themselves and interbational band anymore - I mean not approaching the world’s two biggest markets means that they are now very small fish in a very very big pond.
I think that Per should have done more to get emi out of the way and move to a decent label.
c’est la vie
whateveriam said on August 3, 2006 18:05:
Oh, for the love of God!
No UK release? I suppose they think won’t make a profit on it as RS didn’t make top 100
whateveriam said on August 3, 2006 18:06:
David, calm down please! Hun, we’re all upset, but taking it out on folks here will only make you feel worse. It isn’t TDR’s fault.
CoyRoy said on August 3, 2006 18:29:
I hope Roxette will release the RoxBox over here in South Africa - I really do, but I won’t mind buying it online. I’ll try to mail miss Dimberg. Is that [email protected] her real e-mail address??
ncurran said on August 3, 2006 18:51:
The confirmation that the “anniversary package” will be released in the UK seems to confirm to me that the single will be released too. If not, why are they mentioning radio dates. There wouldnt be any radio dates if it was only the album
roxgirl_germany said on August 3, 2006 19:22:
Kathrin, order directly from Sweden, that’s cheaper. Or from CD Wow (no credit card needed).
Sascha said on August 3, 2006 20:57:
Or from an ordinary german record store! ;-) I think MD would have said “Greatest Hits album/package” instead of anniversary package” if she meant only that album. We’ll see.
davidc4 said on August 4, 2006 09:04:
sorry got a bit angry :) i mean it was only a few days ago when i read “new roxette single” and now to hear a few days later that i wont b able to get it was the worst anti-climax ive ever had.EMI and everybody connected with the release should get their acts together and just have an international release.it wouldnt hurt just one more worldwide single would it?
also to people who say roxette dont do well in the UK singles chart- thats because they havent bothered releasing any.and when Milk and Toast came out there was no promo which never helps(on a lighter note i heard it in work the other day and nearly collapsed) but if you look at last year when Dancing DJs did FLAF that did well AND renewed interest in Roxette as did DHT with LTYH also Journey Souths cover of IMHBL didnt do them any harm people still like them over here but the press ignore them which is a shame. the UK public still remember them to a point and if One Wish was released given a good amount of radio and video exposure it could do well.
onlywhenidream said on August 4, 2006 15:31:
@ david 4c - this is a long long long time running discussion about rox here on TDR. Roxette don’t do well in the UK - not because the UK public don’t necessarily like them, (although few admit to that!) it’s just to do with how shite EMI UK are at promoting them. When WICF hit the radio - they had good promo and it went to number 11. MATAH and Anyone did nothing. No promo, no effort.
We know roxette can do well in the UK - it’s just that they don’t
Vixzter said on August 4, 2006 16:00:
what really makes me chuckle is you all seemed so surprised LOL
;-)
lack of UK rox intrest has been going on from.....mmmm i’d say 1995 (mainly cos there wasnt much going on) was when the rot started and its just got steadily worse although we did get a bit of decent intrest in ’99 but it was fairly short lived.
unless they reinvent themselves (a la madonna/kylie) with the new single then nothing will change as it will still be the minority rather than the majority buying the stuff here.
i shall not hold my breath for an aniversary package or whatever we get fobbed off with, i shall just continue to order from sweden or such like due to lack of product here
to be honest i don’t want them to have to re-invent themselves just to sell records here, i’d rather they release a damn good pop song or 5 as a download and say “sod the promo” ;-)

no uk single = no usa single = nothing for usa at all hello imports thank god i went and got a dvd player for my pc that plays regionally coded dvds :(
Jud (moderator) said on August 4, 2006 22:11:
who knows what will happen in US, I’m sure Per will try to promote the song via Sirius (or whatever the name is) and NordicRox. I mean, the program name even contains the word “ROX” .. how many times have we refered to Roxette as Rox? and then.. the next Roxette release is called “The Rox Box”.. I don’t think this is a coincidence :)
The other thing is if they will find a record company who wants to make them a contract.
On the other hand, I never quite understood what’s so important about - at least for the people here - the album/singles not being released in UK/US? You can buy the releases via internet anyways?
Is it because then the single is played on the radio? Believe me, in the past years this doesn’t make a difference anymore because the radio stations tend to ignore Roxette.
Could somebody pls explain? :D
animalkingdom said on August 4, 2006 23:50:
@ above
...Hehe, but isn’t that just againts Per’s words since the royalties (whatsoever) are high and a new greatest hits collection is therefore coming out? ;)
Also, Roxette seems to get pretty much airplay over here in Finland anyway. :)
Roxrider_USA said on August 5, 2006 01:23:
@animalkingdom: Perfectly said. Per himself said the royalties keep climbing and that the songs keep being played more and more, which means that there’s more demand for Roxette songs.
@Judith: The same way people in Europe get excited about getting the Roxette releases there and being able to go to stores and buy them, people here who like or follow Roxette also feel the same excitement. Also, it’s always nice to hear your favorite band’s songs being played on radio stations. I’m sure you know what i mean. :-)
Take care!
Carlos E., New York.
Jud (moderator) said on August 6, 2006 13:03:
I used to be excited about the release in my country ages ago, but not now anymore. The reason was that I could only get the releases in my home town - no internet shops except for the Fanclub (for solo stuff).
I also used to listen to the radio more than I do now (1 hour a month max?) - so yes, it was nice to listen to them on the radio..
but things have changed :)
I buy my CDs at CDON because they normally have them out earlier than any store in Austria (or Spain).
Besides that, I very very very seldom listen to the radio (crap) and they don’t play Roxette anyway, so it doesn’t really matter if the album is out here or not ;)
The only thing which is nice is promotion, specially if there are interviews/performances on TV, but nowadays it doesn’t really matter.. thanks to internet and nice fans who make the shows available for download :)
That’s the way it worked with the latest releases anyway, which have been released mostly in Sweden (or first in Sweden, later in EU).
So nowadays *I* don’t care if the album is released here or not :)
whateveriam said on August 6, 2006 21:47:
..because we’re all gonna get it, or listen to it anyway, regardless of radio play or not.
Room_service said on August 7, 2006 03:37:
I bet here in Argentina they will release the re-vamped compilation only. I have to be face the reality: there is not market for boxed sets here. Even the normal CD albums are *not as cheap* as they should be. That’s why people usually get bootlegs, illegal copies or download via intenet. How can you fight against piracy and increase the sales if legal music is almost a luxury item?
Back to the topic: the set won’t be released here. Usually the stores get some imported copies, like M. Jackson’s “Ultimate Collection” and some others. But they are imports. Getting 4 or 5 imports is not the same as producing 500 copies locally.
At least the GH will hit the stores here. I realised there are less copies of TBH and TPH in the stores than before, like the stock is almost over. That’s a sign they will be replaced with the forthcoming album. Regarding radio airplay, I don’t care because I NEVER play the radio. I have all the music I like in my CD’s and the PC. No need to hear the shitty stuff they play in the radio.

If by any wonder it does make the UK, what’s the chance of actually finding it on the shelf in HMV!
rox-kuryliw said on August 7, 2006 10:35:
its all in the local divisions of the record companys at end of the day.
in sweden rox gets the lot , poster ads ect ect ,
in uk be lucky is they get a mention on new releases lol.
eBay said on August 7, 2006 13:50:
I know Ally! It is similar, if not worse here in Ireland.. some CD shops don’t even store any Rox CD’s anymore.. and TBH never even charted here.. even though we do have the Brittish Channels here as well, the ones they showed the ads in.. :-(
whateveriam said on August 7, 2006 20:35:
The only Rox CD’s in my local HMV are Canadian issues of DBUGTTC, and once in a blue moon a copy of Joyride. Everything else I had to order...
Room_service said on August 8, 2006 03:03:
whateveriam, I thought TBH and TPH would be also available there in Canada. Both were released, even the double TBH, with the bonus EP. As they are the latest releases to date, that would make sense.
It’s strange DBU is still for sale there. It was deleted almost everywhere in 2002.
whateveriam said on August 8, 2006 10:12:
Look at my profile-I’m not Canadian, I’m English. Hence I said imports. Don’t ask me why they have the Canadian imports in Peterboroughs HMV, cos I just have no idea (its the 1995 ones, not the 2000 reissue)
I can get TBH and TPH (15 track versions with little trouble), the double ones I have on order from US Amazon, but because its so slow, I don’t expect to see them until after my birthday... woopee.
OK, didn’t say imports. Boy do I look stupid.
coyboyusa said on August 8, 2006 13:53:
judith for those of us in the uk/usa trying to keep the flame of roxette alvie its very aggravating trying to get new fans on board, many of them younger who have no ability to buy from the internet onto the rox bus. And frankly i am an old fashioned record buyer, I don’t wanan wait a week for it to come from sweden I want to go to my local record shop and buy it there, and frankly, no offense, but the uk usa market broke roxette and we;ve basically been given a snub by emi and for some degree per as well seeing as both markets have become a pidddle prioirty to him
whateveriam said on August 9, 2006 11:50:
I agree. Its depressing waiting for the post of a morning, and equally depressing having to borrow someone elses credit card so I can buy stuff.
Well its nice to see Roxette give a crap about their fans...not. I can understand why they’re not, don’t get me wrong- the single market not being what it was, and they obviously don’t think it’ll sell here. We have 2 options- either not buy it at all from Sweden or Germany in an attempt to force a release in the UK/US, or all buy it from Sweden/Germany and cripple CDON or something. Or just write angry letters, but its got to the point where I don’t think it’s worth the stamp-I have better things to be doing with my time than be mucked about by them...
I give in-yeah, joking that I can get my Dad to buy it is alright, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I want him to.

as far as EMI goes they dont care we didnt get much promo with Room Service we got no release of Son Of A Plumber or The Change so it is becoming a bit frustrating being a Roxette fan over here.i cant even get stuff off the net anymore as i have to use my mums bank account now and she wouldnt let me put her details on the net if i begged her. so what am i supposed to do to get Roxette releases? swim to the European mainland?
Room_service said on August 10, 2006 02:43:
davidc4, at least you only have to cross the Channel. Many people has done that before (in kajak, and even sailing a bathtub!). But in my case, I have to swim all across the Atlantic Ocean. And that’s not healthy, believe me!
Here in Argentina we got all the regular releases (only albums). But there was no release for The Change nor SOAP. That’s not a surprise. I think we are going to get the new, but that’s all. No Rox-box, ’cause there is no market for such a release here.
