Oh my, oh my... X-mas preparation is starting earlier each year!!
I think this is quite depressing somehow..
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 1, 2006 14:15:
My thoughts too Mat. It takes away all the fun of it really. But it was quite exciting to see the cards out. lol
rox-kuryliw said on August 1, 2006 15:04:
no way, i bet its left over stock there trying to get rid off. if i have any left i always save if for the next year.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 1, 2006 15:09:
Yeah, some of it did look a bit manky, but it was the whole Christmas cards and paper that was for sale that shocked me. I didn’t think it’d be out this early
ally77 said on August 1, 2006 18:08:
I’ve been thinking about it for days....
145 days till Christmas Day!
eBay said on August 2, 2006 12:39:
I don’t think that it is just the leftovers from last years season.. I remember last year it was not much later when the shops started to sell that stuff..
ally77 said on August 2, 2006 17:44:
Well I have already been talking about getting some new lights for outside, as soon as B&Q get them in!
whateveriam said on August 2, 2006 19:56:
I delight in buying wrapping paper for 20p in January, when it cost £2 in November time!
kachina008 said on August 2, 2006 20:01:
Call me a little scroogy, but I still don’t get the point of Christmas, or having christmassy things in the shops in August :P
whateveriam said on August 2, 2006 20:37:
And the Christmas cards and things.
The only downside of Christmas and birthdays for me is that I don’t want anything. I really don’t! My mam threatens me with the 1st 3 things she sees on QVC. If its powertools, I’m screwed!
TinyBubbles said on August 7, 2006 06:58:
This is how much one person can change in just a few short months:
I CANT BLOODY WAIT FOR XMAS THIS YEAR!!! :D:D:D:D
eBay said on August 7, 2006 07:15:
@whateveriam
I am the same! I don’t want gifts for my birthday or x-mas! Other’s hardly ever understand...
whateveriam said on August 7, 2006 20:52:
What I proposed to my family is that we all get given a set amount of money, and we all go out and buy for ourselves. We then wrap it, and distribute it amongst your family. Your family then give you your presents on Christmas Day, so you get what you want. Cool, nuh? My folks said no, my mum likes threatening me with the first 3 things on QVC *shudder*.

Oh dear - saw a Christmas advert on TV last night. Can’t remember what it was advertising though, as I was in the other room, just heard jingle bells playing, rushed into the lounge, but it was just ending. Come on people, it’s August still. And yesterday, in the local paper, they had the first batch of Christmas party menu’s for the office parties.
ally77 said on August 29, 2006 07:01:
I think I went OTT on the Christmas cards this year.... I counted the boxes yesterday (6)... why.... ? on earth did I buy 6 boxes of cards!
nusaderenda said on August 29, 2006 07:18:
I got a christmas card today from one of my daughter’s little friends. She had drawed a christmas tree. Well, I love Christmas, but there’s a time for everything. I love autumn too...I love everything.
Claire said on August 31, 2006 14:08:
Its completely daft i used to work in next and the signal to start selling wrap was august bank hol. I love xmas but when the xmas songs start creeping on the shop tape in November u have certainly had enough by December 25th!
rox-kuryliw said on August 31, 2006 16:39:

My goodness pwbbounce - you’re on a roll there with all those Christmas anthems - don’t get me started singing or else I may not be able to stop! :)
ally77 said on September 6, 2006 07:07:
Now where was it I actually heard Christmas songs recently.... I can’t think which shop it was!
Claire said on September 6, 2006 11:44:
But it spoils it if u do it now. theres not better than sitting with all the presents around you wrapping them up and putting them under the tree for santa to take. i love xmas shopping on a cold night too- a bit weird i know.
BUT I HATE.... the metro centre at xmas- to be avoided at all costs, and that horrible hot feeling u get queing in the shops when u have a coat and scarf on cos its 2 degrees outside.
ally77 said on September 6, 2006 13:03:
I still love to go shopping at Christmas, I just like to get most of it before December and wrapped....
I love nothing more than wrapping last minute gifts or writing out cards in an evening when it’s cold outside...
I also love the switch on of the lights, but they moved it this year to a Sunday late afternoon because of the drunks on the evenings!
whateveriam said on September 6, 2006 13:41:
Ah... Christmas light switch on in Peterborough is always crappy, very cheap and not even cheerful. And half of them break in the first week.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on September 6, 2006 13:53:
We’ve just had loads and loads of brand new Xmas lights brought for our town. The very nice and colourful!!!
ally77 said on September 11, 2006 22:04:
@ Paul, same here.... there was an article in the local paper last week, they splashed on on all new lights and are extending where they put them! (I actually said last year, they where looking shabby and needed replacing... I guess they must have heard me!)
@ whateveriam.... I have a friend who lives in your town as well, another Roxette fan!
whateveriam said on September 11, 2006 22:23:

How To Annoy Your Room Mate At Christmas!
Claim you were a Christmas tree in your former life. If s/he tries to bring one into the room, scream bloody murder.
Go to the mall with your roommate and sit on Santa’s lap. Refuse to get off.
Wear a Santa suit all the time. Deny you’re wearing it.
Sit in a corner in the fetal position rocking back and forth chanting, “Santa Claus is coming to town, Santa Claus is coming to town...”
Hang mistletoe in the doorway. When your roommate enters or leaves the room, plant a wet one on his/her lips.
Hang a stocking with your roommates name on it. Collect coal and sharp objects in it. If s/he asks, say “you’ve been very naughty this year.”
Paint your nose red and wear antlers. Constantly complain about how you never get to join in on the reindeer games.
Make conversation out of Christmas Carols. (I.E. “You know, I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus underneath the mistletoe last night.”)
Wrap yourself in Christmas lights and roll around in the snow.
Sing: “All I want for Christmas is my roommate’s two front teeth...”
Give your roommate the gifts from the twelve days of Christmas song.
Build a snowperson with your roommate and place a hat on its head. When it doesn’t come to life, cry hysterically “it didn’t work!”
Whip your roommate screaming “now Dasher, now Dancer, now Donner, and Blitzen, etc.”
Tear down all your roommate’s Christmas decorations yelling “Bah Humbug!”
Wake up every morning screaming “Ghost of Christmas Future, please have mercy on my soul!”
Tell your roommate you’re moving out. Santa’s buying you a house on 34th Street.
Pin a poinsettia to your lapel.
Make anatomically correct gingerbread people and eat the best parts first.
Put on a fake white beard and insist that all your roommate’s friends “give it a yank.”
Ring jingle bells maniacally saying “every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings.”
Stand in front of the mirror reciting “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” over and over in your underwear.
Smoke mistletoe. Do what comes naturally.
Watch your roommate when s/he is sleeping. When s/he wakes up sing, “he sees you when you’re sleeping...”
Steal a life size nativity scene and display it in your room. When your roommate asks, tell him/her “I had to let them stay here, there’s no room at the inn.”
When your roommate goes to the bathroom, rearrange his/her possessions. Tell him/her that Santa’s elves must have done it.

whateveriam said on October 10, 2006 20:28:
No, Ally, we don’t do we?! I remember building a giant snowball at school that was twice as tall as I was, and this was 92, 93 time? You don’t get the big snowdrifts anymore...evil global warming, climate change and similar...
pwbbounce (moderator) said on October 12, 2006 07:36:
It hardly ever snows in Guernsey, but it get’s bloody cold when those north winds come round. But because we are so small, and surrounded by so much salty sea, it never snows. :-(
But I saw loads of snow this year when I went skiing, and I’ll see loads when I go again next year
pwbbounce (moderator) said on October 12, 2006 11:14:
Yeah, only for a week this year. Going to St Anton. It’s my Dad’s 50th and he doesn’t know that I’m going yet. He’s taking his car and driving, and me and 6 of his friends are flying. What’s even better is that his wife is paying for me!!! YAY!!!

Sorry folks, but I gotta start it already!!
It was lunchtime, and I was walking round town, going to get a sandwich for my lunch. On my way back to work, I went into a magazine/paper shop to get some lunchtime reading.
I saw Christmas Cards and Wrapping paper for sale!!! I was like “oh my god!!!”. This can’t be true.
So here you go, this years Christmas thread started already. I wonder how many replies we’ll have by the time Xmas is really here!
