Transferring VHS to DVD - advice please

Hi,

I had no idea how to transfer so bought this item:

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Product_...

The programs I’ve used are Nero Vision and Ulead Video Studio (free with the Belkin thing)

Some months ago I started to make transfers but always had the problem of the audio and video being out of sync. This problem existed using both programs. Belkin support have not been able to help. I now want to try again.

Can anyone offer any tips/advice?

Thanks

- Try to capture small videos. The more you capture, the less sync you will get.
- How much of RAM memory do you have? Do you have a fast computer.
- Do not use Nero for capturing. Sometimes it doesn’t work propertly. Try to use VirtualDub or the software that comes with the cable.

I had the same problem but I had another capture card and I always captured small videos.

Hi Arnie,

Thanks for that.

I have tried transferring small files (30 seconds) and the problem still existed.

My computer is pentium 4, 2.8 ghz, 1 mb ram

I have used the software that came with the Belkin adaptor. However, i do remember that often I would start transferring where two different recordings on the VHS met. Most of my VHS recordings are very small recordings held on 3hr tapes.

I’ve been having synch problems too - I used to have Windows ME, then I formatted and installed Windows XP and now the problems are much less frequent, even if sometimes I still get them.
What’s more, sometimes it seems to depend on the videotape. In certain parts of the tape, I can capture with perfect synch, in some other parts, I can’t, no matter how I try (of course shut down all other applications except the one for capturing the video). But I guess it depends also ont he software you’re using, and the output quality you set.
My computer is a Pentium III though, so that doesn’t help. I can’t even capture with DVD-quality, but I can still make nice videos to share online.

P.s: I also have troubles especially when starting to capture at the point where I have 2 different recordings on the tape!

P.p.s: surely you mean 1 Gb RAM??

Also make sure your vidoes are good quality.. nothing worse than a poor quality video put on a DVD.... I’d rather not bother....

Yeah I can finally get rid of my VHS player this week, ordered a nice new DVD recorder! :)

Make sure your not trying to capture in a resolution that is too high, mainly so that the comp can keep up with the capturing. If it’s only VHS i don’t see a need to capture at DVD resolutions.

If the only problem is that the audio is out of sync, (no other problems like skipping/artefacts etc) then try this program, Multiquence from http://goldwave.com/mqrelease.php

You should be able to adjust the audio to match the video track.

I’ve played around with it abit, and it seems ok. If you’ve got any troubles, mail me and i’ll see if i can help out.

ow ally let me know how your dvd recorder is , im so after getting one, BUT i have no idea which one and if there any good ? :-)

I have a Sony RDR HX900 that’s really great, but I hear the new Panasonic (I forget the model) kicks serious ass.

Will do can’t wait for it to arrive, it’s a Toshiba one! :)

There is also a good Samsung one on sale now in Argos £99 reduced by £80, looks a good one!

bloody hell thats good price, im just taking a wee trip online to have a look for it now :-D

I always hook my VCR up on the PC and then I use my TV card from Hauppauge and Record it as Avi and then use Nero to Burn it on DVD!http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/support_pvr150.html
