DVD to Divx help

Maybe any of you know how this works. The point is that I’ve recorded something on my DVD recorder from the television and I’d like to store it in a more economic way, that is making it in Divx.
But I don’t know how that is done, how to enconde and which programs may serve for it.
My DVD recorder makes .VRO files. I’ve tried copying the file into the hard disk to rename it as .MPEG and it does work, though somehow the computer can’t reproduce the file as well as the DVD player.
Please help?

If you can’t find something that will convert/encode from the .VRO file, you might try recording it to a DVD on your recorder, then use one fo the programs that rip from DVD to DivX.

Santi, look into this software list:

There are many all in one applications to rip a DVD to DIVX.
