MSN Messenger Issues

Grrrrrrr some computer whizz out there help me before I go mad...
I keep getting this “Troubleshoot Error - 80048820” when I try to log into MSN messenger, I have the latest version and also have MSN Mess Plus 3.62.
I follow the help instructions and ensure my firewall was allowing it, and it lets me in, but when I close the firewall it kicks me out...
msmsgsin.exe is the thing I have to allow access to the firewall but I still get this friggin error...

When you say “close the firewall”, do you mean close or shutdown?
I can’t think why you would want to shut it down. If your just closing it, make sure it’s saving the changes made.

No just close it.... and yeah I did save things...
I didn’t google it, thanx for that, I will have a read...

I did everything on that google site, I even removed it and re-installed it and it still does not work always the same error... I tried it with my firewall and I tried it without...
Either way it seems I ain’t the only person having issues with it!

it could have corrupted a windows file, i had yahoo messenger do that to me and had to use the recovery disc to clean windows up

So try another Messenger that contains MSN too, like Trillian (www.trillian.cc) or Miranda (www.miranda-im.org). :-) You are not bound to the original MSN thing.

i get that trouble with msn but mainly cos ive just switched to adsl from cable and the modem supplied with BT Yahoo is crap, will be buying another modem shortly that isn’t rubbish ( but then it was free so I didn’t expect much really)

Been on ASDL for 2 years now... this has only happened since I did the upgrade to 7.5...
I don’t use it enough to warrent that Trillian thing... there has to be a way around fixing this, maybe as it’s happened to loads of people (comes accross others on web forums) MSN might make a patch to fix it!

I’d try going back to the older version if possible, at least then it might work till a patch or new version is released.

God damn firewall. sorted it now tho. Hope you did too ally :)

Nope I tried everything.... all kinds of tweaks, so in the end took it off and went back to using 7.0...
Be prepared for a new hotmail address change soon as I keep getting weird messages from some very strange people... lol

Yes I am using the new Windows Live Messenger with my new PC, no problems so far!
FirstGirlOnTheMoon said on October 3, 2006 18:18:
I use Messenger Live, but I don’t really use any of the fancy features like VoIP, etc. I just chat occationally.
I don’t have any problems with it so far. ;)
Ary-Sya said on October 3, 2006 18:41:

I got it today because my other MSN is not working, it won’t log in :/
ally77 said on October 3, 2006 21:37:
The new one is not too bad... a few more features... not as though I use MSN much anyway!

Well, I assume you have already googled for a solution, but still: http://www.msnfanatic.com/articles/solving-error-80048820-444.html
Did this work?
