Vegetarians/Vegans

Just curious how many of you might be vegetarian or even vegan.
I’ve been a proper vegetarian since i was a teenager but 2 years ago i started eating tuna. (or i was forcefed to eat it)(cuz my mom thinks i’m gonna die) Fish is suppose to be good for you? I try and eat tuna at least once every two weeks. Sometimes i’ll have some cod. But rarely.
Anyways, I guess that doesn’t really make me vegetarian anymore? I still call myself one tho :)
If you are vegetarian what were your reasons for becoming one?

I like meat. Unfortunately. If I am thinking about HOW they are killed I wonder why I still can eat it...
But I absolutely don’t eat tuna. Everytime I want to do that I see dead dolphins. So I just can’t eat it, although I like it.
And lobster I don’t eat either, because it is so cruel.....

I absolutely LOVE dolphin meat. It’s like a cross between whooping crane, spotted owl and baby seal, with powdered elephant tusk sprinkled on top. Delicious !

I am not a red meat eater that much, but I do like chicken!
I don’t eat fish....

i’m a semi vegetarian.
I dont eat red meat or fish i do eat turkey ham, cold cuts that dont have beef in them. you cant truly be a vegan or vegetarian without some form of supplements otherwise you end up with a weak immune system and its not good to have children who r 100% vegan until they have stopped developing because it DOES cause health problems

Nope... I am a carnivore through and through. I tell them to just show a match to the cow and have the proper introductions:
Flame, this is Cow
Cow, this is Flame
Then set my steak on my plate rare, and my burgers medium rare.
Don’t ask me what it is..... but I get a craving for blood every now and again and that is solved by eating my food that way. I’ve been like that for a while now.

I’m always on the edge of becoming a vegetarian. I only eat meat once a week (usually on Sunday) but only if I have dinner with my family. I know there are certain vitamines and proteines in there and sicne I’m having a bit troubles with my blood (a bit anaemic) I should eat meat. However, I take care about the method the animal was risen and killed so that I only get ’healthy’ meat on my plate.

I read somewhere that every vitamin and mineral known to us can be found in fruit n vegs. All except for Vit B12. Which some believe our bodies are capable of producing itself..
Ah well i’ve been veggie for yearssss and i’m still alive :)
Santi said on October 14, 2005 13:48:
Maybe, but not everything is vitamines and minerals. Most of what we eat (and need to eat) are lipids, carbohydrates and proteins actually. And you of course can get aminoacids (for your own proteins) from vegetables, but there are some essential aminoacids that are indeed very rare or even not found on veggies.
Besides, vegetables have much more quantity of useless carbohydrates that do nothing but fill you up when eating and pass thru your body. As most of the veggie matter is this, you do get less aminoacids that you need for your own body.
I would say that being a vegan is far from healthy, humans were never normally herbivores unless forced by poverty until very recently. And we all know what used to happen to very poor people in the past.
A very good book to read on this is “Good to Eat” by Marvin Harris. It not only explains on vegetarian and vegan stuff, but also things like why USA loves beef, why Asians hate milk or in some places people eat their pets, or why it isn’t practical to eat insects in most places of the world, but some human communities do.

If we were dinosaurs I’d b a bit T-Rex......u can’t beat a good steak.......grrrrrr! However I respect and understand people’s reasons for not eating meat. But hey, the cow’s dead anyways so I may as welleat the carcass;-)

I’ve not got a problem with other people eating meat. I think it is natural and the way it is meant to be.
I just have to be all weird and have a phobia for flesh. Just the thought of it makes me feel sick.

Sheeshh, you guys are missing so much!!!!! I can’t eat red meat easily but white meat is good! I love chicken! :D

I haven’t eaten red meat since I was 15, that’s 14 years now. I eat chicken, vegs and pasta, but i’m not a vegetarian.

I am definetly not a vegetarian since I am not so very fond of vegetables. I do, however, have full respect for people not eating meat because they don’t like it. People who are not eating meat due to other reasons I think is a bit harder to understand and vegan people I absolutely don’t understand. The reason is that I fully believe that humans need to eat different food and not only vegetables (and substitutes made from soya). I know one guy who was a vegan, but he had to start eating normal again. The doctor gave him the ultimatum to either start eating normally again or die.
I also know a girl who have become a vegan (she was vegetarian before due to the reason that she simply didn’t like meat) now and she looks anything else but well. So I guess it is just a matter of time until she faces the same facts...

I haven’t eaten meat in 12 years. I used to like the taste, but can’t think of any justification of eating animals.
I really dislike when people argue that being vegan or vegetarian is not healthy because they know someone who looks sick. I know a whole bunch of people who eat meat on a daily basis and they obviously don’t look like they enjoy better nutrition than some of the vegetarians/vegans I know.
Whether you eat meat or not, you will always have to make sure that what you’re eating is well-balanced and I’m pretty sure that as vegetarian I’m quite as capable of living as healthy as a meat-eater (or even healthier). Talk to a nutrition!
per_mson said on October 18, 2005 15:28:
@stillfar: Before you start flaming me you should maybe read my comment one more time. I didn’t say that vegetarians look sick. I know a few and they are as healthy as me. I stated two examples and they are (were) both Vegans. That is a completely different thing!! I have, as I said before, nothing against vegetarians that are not eating meat if they don’t like it. Other reasons I still don’t get, sorry. What nutritions say is of course sometimes correct (even if there among them also exist a lot of weird ones), but when a doctor tells you that you need this and that I believe him/her much more.
TinyBubbles said on October 24, 2005 19:50:
Mmmm i’ve actually been much much healthier since i became veggie. But then i know of people who really didn’t benefit from it.
There is a theory you should eat according to your bloodgroup. Blood group A for instance should not eat meat and i fall into that category. Ok, i know it is probably bull but i still find it interesting.
rox-kuryliw said on October 8, 2005 13:34:
I dont eat meat, But eat fish for health reasons, I call myself vegertarian. Iv done that for 12 years now, and did it cos i didnt like meat and saw no need to eat it.
