Oprah Revisits Feud With Paris Boutique
By Associated Press

Tue Sep 20, 4:06 PM

NEW YORK - Oprah Winfrey didn’t waste any time in the new season of her syndicated TV show to revisit her summer feud with luxury store Hermes.

Halfway through Monday’s premiere of “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” the talk-show host addressed the incident in June when she was turned away from Hermes’ Paris boutique. Winfrey was denied entry after arriving at the posh store 15 minutes after closing time _ even though others continued shopping inside.

“I just want to say shame on anybody for thinking that I was upset for not being able to get into a clothes store and buy a purse,” said Winfrey. “Please, please.”

“Everybody who’s ever been snubbed because you were not chic enough or the right class or the right color or whatever _ I don’t know what it was _ you know that that is very humiliating and that is exactly what happened to me.”

“I would like to say we’re really sorry,” said Robert Chavez, the chief executive officer of Hermes USA, who was a guest on Winfrey’s show. “You did meet up with one very, very rigid staff person.”

“Rigid or rude?” Winfrey challenged.

“Rigid and rude, I’m sure,” Chavez replied.

Winfrey said she wasn’t playing “the celebrity card” and that she knew “the difference between the store being closed and the store being closed to me.”

Nevertheless, Winfrey complimented Hermes on its handling of the incident (including “sensitivity training” for employees), and urged viewers to again buy Hermes products.

So let me see if I have this right:
The store was closed for the day. The shoppers that were in there were pretty much finishing up their shopping to go home. Oprah shows up AFTER closing time and then says that she was snubbed because she was black. Does that sound about right?

IT WAS AFTER CLOSING TIME YOU SILLY BITCH! OF COURSE YOU’RE NOT GOING TO BE ALLOWED INSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve been in food places when they’ve closed up, but they were letting guests finish their dinners and what not.

how stupid! I mean, my parents used to have astore and at closing time, we CLOSED the door so nobody else could get in, but we didn’t kick out the people that were in still trying their clothes, paying, looking, deciding what item to take.. and nobody ever tried to get in when they saw it was closed like “he!!! how come they are in and not me???”
It happens in ALL stores, everywhere.. you aren’t just kicked out if you happen to be in when they close.. I wonder what her problem was?

It would have been different if others would have been let IN, just not her.. I bet she was there with her “I’m a celebrity” and the staff didn’t give a shit about it..

You both have a point BUT one must be mentally not allthere NOT to let Oprah in - even if it’s 12hours past the closing time!! At the end of the day stores like money and power and Oprah has both in EXCESS!!

One of the BIGGEST issues I have of this:

The store employees were “punished” for their “crimes” by being required to take “sensitivity training classes”.

I know what it’s like to be required to do these classes, despite the fact that I wasn’t “insensitive” to a particular “class” of people.

weird how the “rigid and rude” employee didn’t recognize Oprah. Does she wear THAT much makeup on TV????????? :P

Mwhahaha yes she does :P

Well, seeing as that happened in Paris, I wouldn’t be too surprised if the employees simply didn’t recognize Oprah Winfrey because they had no idea who she is! And why should they, it’s not like she’s a huge star all over the world...
(And let’s face it, you can hardly use someone as “promo” for your shop if a large majority of your usual clients would ask “Who?” if you told them the name of that person, can you? ;-))

I’m sure she’s not the only “VIP” that’s not let in after closing time.. just that the others must have some more education.. I bet she was pissed because she had been wandering around Paris the whole day and not a single soul had stopped her “Hej! you are... yes that one from the TV.. forgot your name.. Janet Jackson??” ;)

That they call “egalité” in France? It’s closed, no one enters. It’s a democracy lesson from France to the USA.
