hi everyone. i really love this 3-page discussion. very interesting topics here. i will try to check out the so-called off topic ones more often. cheers.

finally a love scene between 2 men on film YEAY!

Thought you could get those already... you know as in porn!

love sences between men make me gip ! lol

really! I though they chickened out and were just gonna do a snog instead! Yay! Now I’m gonna look forward to the movie even more!

is it out to rent ?

Not out to rent yet. Filming is due to start soon.

Wouldn’t get too excited, apparently the director has got cold feet with the gay scenes

Filming is due to start soon?? Last time I checked it was filmed last summer and the movie’s ready for release...

(BTW, Heath Ledger and Michelle “Jen from Dawson’s Creek” Williams met on set and are now not only engaged, but also expecting a child this fall!)

I just read something yesterday on the internet which said that filming was due to start in the autumn. maybe that was last autumn??

Yeah, probably! IMDb has June 14th listed as the first day of filming, but I found a mention of someone meeting Heath Ledger on his way to the set in mid May, so I guess IMDb is wrong (again...)! *shrugs*

Maybe I would like to see this...

th emovie comes out in august, yeah they scaled back the gay scenes but i liek jake gyllenhall alot...kill to see him snog with heath ledger :)

It’s from a novella by Annie Proux, so if it doesn’t live up to your expectations, I’d reccommend Proux’s wonderful collection of short stories Close Range: Wyoming Stories. It can be found in a single edition, but as it’s all of 58 or so pages. . .

It’s out in October in the UK to buy....

Has anyone seen this yet? Was in cinemas yesterday (6th Jan). Is it as good as people are saying??

i knwp people who saw it and said its one of the best movies they’ve seen, its not playing anywhere locla to me yet I really want to see it

we’ve got a really crappy cinema where I live, and it only picks certain films to show. I didn’t even think for one minute they would show this one and I was right. Have to wait until DVD

http://ennislovedjack.blogspot.com/

you can read the story its based on here

Thanks CB!!

damn, couldn’t help crying! Touching

Will “Brokeback Mountain” eventually become the same sort of midnight-movie, audience-participation phenomenon as “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” with audience members dressing as various characters and re-enacting scenes along with the film?

Just watched it, it’s a powerful movie. Break out the hankies!

Oldag... thought (after reading some reviews) that someone finally made a gay Titanic... *yawn* Will wait till its availble 2 rent but only out of curiousity - I refuse to support Hollywood... not even the gay movies! (All the money goes to Bush’s war anyways!!)

purplemedusa i dont understand why wont you see this movie, Its nothing like titanic lol ( hated it that)

In a way it feels like the male version of “Aimee et Jaguar”, if anybody knows the film..

Refusing to support Hollywood because all the money goes to Bush’s war anyway. Goodness gracious, that is an astonishing observation – obviously the product of erudition beyond the ken of mere mortals. And the guys in Brokeback weren’t cowboys, they were protecting a herd of sheep. That makes them sheepboys.

LOL! Oldag you rock buddy!!

Won’t be shown at the Megaplex 17 in Sandy, Utah. These theatres are owned by Larry H. Miller.

That’s okay... I don’t support that sonofabitch anyway: Utah Jazz, buying cars from him, etc. At least, if I know he’s got something to do with it, I try to avoid it.

Larry H. Miller why wont he show it ?
well i love this film, Its about normal people , in normal situations.

SALT LAKE CITY - A movie theater owned by Utah Jazz owner Larry Miller abruptly changed its screening plans and decided not to show the film “Brokeback Mountain.” The film, an R-rated Western gay romance story, was supposed to open Friday at the Megaplex at Jordan Commons in Sandy, a suburb of Salt Lake City. Instead it was pulled from the schedule.

A message posted at the ticket window read: “There has been a change in booking and we will not be showing ’Brokeback Mountain.’ We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Cal Gunderson, manager of the Jordan Commons Megaplex, declined to comment.

The film, starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, is about two cowboys who discover feelings for one another. The two eventually marry women but rekindle their relationship over the years.

The movie’s distributor, Focus Features, said that hours before opening, the theater management “reneged on their licensing agreement,” and refused to open the film.

Gayle Ruzicka, president of the conservative Utah Eagle Forum, said not showing the film set an example for the people of Utah.

“I just think (pulling the show) tells the young people especially that maybe there is something wrong with this show,” she said.

Mike Thompson, executive director of the gay rights advocacy group Equality Utah, called it disappointing.

“It’s just a shame that such a beautiful and award-winning film with so much buzz about it is not being made available to a broad Utah audience because of personal bias,” he said.

some people wants shooting!

I guess the area is still living in the time the film takes place... or even more in the past.

They must be afraid that everybody who watch the film will a) turn gay or b) re-think about gay and those they know gay and even start to like them/have nothing against them ;)

typical in the country where Bush is a leader...

its really sad, they would be unroar if people didnt show , tina’s whats love got to do with it !when that was at cinema ! so whats the difference? isnt this just spreading more hatred ? :-((( makes me sad.

it has Oscar written all over it :)

never liked Ledger, Gyllenhal (??) and Williams before, but it seemed I’m gonna change my mind soon :)

Iv always like Ledger since a knights tale, one of my fave films :) anyone else like that film.

legder also did a cheese medival tv series forgot the name of it, and all this crap about hollywood money going to fund war is total shit, last tiem I checked hollywood has always been anti war..especially these days cause they worry the a draft would send all the pedophile bait they prey on in california off to war and they’s be without victims

coyboyusa you do come out with some strange stuff sometimes you ! LOL

lol its the drugs

Brokeback Mountain has won the The Critics Choice Award :)

what drugs coy :-S i be on them myself lol

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck should star in the sequel.

coy&rox... aren’t we all...! LOL!

just went to see this film again with a firend, and this time the cinema was Packed with peopel :-S how starnge it was dead first time i went to see it.

It’s an outrage they got mainstream rich white male heterosexual actors to portray these characters, when so many accomplished gay actors are available – it was pure discrimination. It was not unlike midieval times when women’s parts in plays were portrayed by men dressed as women... or in early cinema, when African-American characters were portrayed by white people with their faces painted black – as though black people were not capable of starring in movies. Let’s hope the Brokeback sequel rectifies this inequity. “God, I wish I knew how to quit you!”

ow come off it , It was 1960’s america, ITS ACTING , so doesnt matter if they were gay or not, the acting was spot on, i totally believed it.

It’s a lot more than mere “acting” when you wriggle tongues with each other.

Agrees with Oldag!

i disagree, acting doesnt matter as long as it can believed. Its not a documentary lol. ow well.

i just found out the name of the medival tv series he was in it was called roar it ran for 2 years or so, sci fi channel runs it in repeats during weekends in the states

oldag no offense but here’s where you and I an alot of people in the ” community” differ. Honestly if it werew average looking out gay men only peopel who were very familiar with the story would have gone to see it in theaters and it woudl have had a very quiet death on dvd. I too am irritated at how str8 men play gay men is heralded as brave, but honeslty, it it changes the mind of one overheated straight man in this world, who cares who portrayed the characters...its the first gay themed movie that hasn’t stereotyped gay men into the flaming queer and the pretty maticualte interior designer mold. If more movies were out like this more peopel would realized how homosexuality isn’t a perversion

coyboy i agree totally. I find it so refreshing to have a film that finally says gay men are just men aswell, as i hate the sterotypes like on will and grace ( although i do know its a comady ;-D ) Still i think gay men can be just like everyother man i know i am, thats why i loved this film so much.

I am going to see it I hope this weekend!

let me know what you think ally :-)

I’m gonna see that too soon, hopefully this weekend. I have to say, after reading all the review and all the controversy, it made me want to see this movie more.

coyboy, speaking of contemporary films, what is your appraisal of the manner in which the “community” was portrayed in “The Producers” ?

“community” what a funny way of putting it lol.
i found a medley of music from the film, great score it has.

@Majdy: Haven’t you seen A Knight’s Tale?
A funny movie with Heith Ledger

Yes, I seen that :) It’s petty funny, but I don’t like the “fart” scene :D :D

Does anyone seen movie called The House at the End of The World? it has gays romance too, between colin farrel and some actor (don’t remember his name). The movie itself doesn’t really about it, but I think it’s still pretty interesting.

Majdy i saw that movie and i was really disapointed by it. I found it very confusing and the characters where to watercoloured for me.

I just saw that las night actually :). In my opinion, it could have been better if they have better screenplay. But, some of the scene is really SHOCKING me :)

SHOCKING LOL what was shocking ? i guess some bits were , i didnt like that part with brother going through the glass at the begining, but it was common in them days iv read about it before.

he he he... it’s too graphic to tell people here what scene was shocking me :D :D

oh, btw... I am watching Oprah now and Jake, Heath and the cast of Brokeback Mountain were there :) YAY!!!

I just realize that Heath was ssssoooo cute!!!

It’s really just a sad love story about two people who can’t find happiness in the world together so they have to steal it for themselves in moments.

It’s a bit too long, but interesting though, well acted. My friend was in tears by the end.

SPOILER ALERT—I’M PREPARING TO DISCUSS PLOT POINTS OF THE MOVIE NOW, SO IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW, SKIP THE REST.

Personally, I think that had Jack never instigated the affair, Ennis might have lived his life a happier person. I don’t think Ennis was gay, (Jack certainly) but he fell deeply in love and that colored the rest of his unhappy life.

I as rather surprised by Michelle Williams (Ennis’s wife). I never thought she was particularly good, or even noticed her, but she has some of the most powerful scenes, often without saying a word. Jut the look on her face when she sees the two men kissing, she looked like she’d been hit in the gut with a cast iron skillet. Perfect and silent, but so very resonant.

We also wondered if Jack’s parents suspected he was gay. His mother understood, I think because of the shirts, and perhaps his father did too, hence his refusal to Ennis at the end. Jacks wife certainly had no clue about Ennis, and I wonder if she had something to do with what happened to Jack. She’s almost smug about it even through the hurt she feels, but it all disappears when she puts two and two together.

Interesting film, beautifully shot. Worth the once through but nothing overly spectacular.

Agree!!! I was so surprised too! Before this movie, I only pictured her just some girl from Dawson Creek and has no talent. But I now change my mind and just amazed by her. What a wonderful performance. About the look in her face when she saw them kissing, all I can say that she’s one of the actors in the world that can do a great acting without saying anything! She was just ssssooo wonderful! but maybe because in real life she’s really in love with Heath, so the “love” thing was help her performance? it could be I bet.

Btw, the film in German is titled “Schwule cowboys” > “Gay cowboys” erh.....

aha! I knew it would happen! can’t wait!

i hope so much they win a lot *thumbs up*

the german title is sooo stupid. can’t believe it...

should win, best actor, best film, best soundtrack best supporting actress..

My prediction is the movie will win the Best Picture. But I am not sure about best actor or supporting actrees, they have some pretty big rivals this year. But I DO hope the Heath or Michelle will win.

@Judith: Where did you hear that? I haven’t seen or heard that title anywhere, only “Brokeback Mountain”!

ETA: http://www.kino.de/pix/FLBILDER/pre06/mbiz/gal420/z0603504.jpg
- No “Schwule Cowboys” anywhere on there... ;-)

ok my mistake, yesterday I saw some headlines like “Schwule cowboys heiß auf Oscar”, “Clooney jagt schwule Cowboys” etc and I thought that the title had been translated!

Anyway, it seems to have gotten a nickname “the film about the gay cowboys”.. I can see it being used in Austria at least :@

Of COURSE it will win best picture! It could have been filmed with a hand-held video camera, in black and white, with no sound-track and totally unknown actors – but the gay theme will dominate, because awards aren’t bestowed for quality any more. Awards these days are given only for political purposes, not achievement or quality. Accordingly, awards these days are all meaningless.

And these two Democrat lover boys were sheep herders, not cowboys. Baaaa! Baaaaa!

I wouldn’t count on them being Democrats... they were rednecks, after all...

I just happened to see parts of the old movie “Oklahoma” on a cable channel, with (among other things) a lot of dancing cowboy dudes. Obviously Brokeback Mountain wasn’t truly the first movie of its putative ilk. And, Shirley Jones was absolutely beautiful when she was young.

BM is definitely the best film i’ve ever seen! it is so damn real; great actors! it touched me so deeply, i have to think about it a lot.

i am very thankful for having a film like that, that appreciates gay love.

*love is a force of nature*

i dont think its an outrage at all that straight men played the parts of gay men. The fact that we had 2 great well known men playing these parts is what got this film into the mainstream. The director has stated over and over that this is not a gay movie but thats its a love story between 2 people - there is a big difference in that. I thought it was a beautiful movie with a heart wrenching ending and I cant wait to buy it.
I do understand that some people are angry that gay actors did not get to play these parts - but hey its such a step in the right direction to even get a love story between 2 men even into the cinema and for it to be a runaway success. I have straight friends who cannot stand the thought of 2 men together but having watched it came away touched by the story and I think thats the point of this film - to show that love can happen even when yu dont expect it. Hopefully in the next year or two there will be a similar themed film but this time with more mainstream “Out” gay actors that Hollywood will accept and back all the way!

can anyone tell me what you think “jack... i swear” means at the end of the movie? how did you interpret the ending of this great movie?

I wish I had directed Brokeback Mountain. I would have gotten those two dudes together in the tent, then said, “Okay, you guys KISS now.”

“That wasn’t really what I wanted. Do it again. Kiss him! Kiss him! Again! Again! Do it like you really MEAN it! Kiss, dammit, KISS! Let’s see TONGUE there! Grab him tighter! Let’s have some pelvic action! Grind on him, while you kiss him!

“Now the orgasm.... Do It, Do It, DO IT! Make the theater audience HAPPY!

“Way to go, boys!”

any self respecting gay man woudl have insisted jake gyllenhaal show his goodies :)

LOL!
you boys are funny...

now just for angelina jolie to get it on with charlize theron...hmmm now theres a horny scene..
*must go home and share that with the wife*

anyway back to brokeback....

ive ordered it on dvd - now just waiting for it to fall thru the letterbox!!!

I’d prefer Angelina and Sharon Stone *drooool* - what about Ellen and Sharon in If these walls could talk.. :P~

now thats a whole new thread - that film is amazing - it still puts such a huge smile on my face in that last scene....

shame it couldnt get as big success as brokeback - but hey maybe some day...

certainly wouldnt be as much uproar about them getting it on in the bedroom scene hey?

thats life !

but if these wall was made for tv not theaters or dvd release if I remember right, I still can’t believe the killed off the lead charater that had cancer in the L word

who had cancer? i remember the dad who died at the end of the last series...

we are behind in the uk? who is it?

bit off topic ;)

if these walls could talk II is available on DVD, I know cuz I do have it :)

Don’t know about the L word, I only saw the first season because a friend downloaded it and we saw it at her place..

cripes I forgot we have peope who are behind 1 season on alot of usa shows....eek I became a spoiler fag NO lol I am shutting up now!!!!

my god I just watched brokeback this afternoon for the first time, I couldn’t stop crying, movies don’t usually do this to me....this film was so robbed by the academy!

Michelle williams deserves every award she can get her hands on..........just the sheer shock on her face when she saw jack and ennis kissing....god I actually think this is one film even my boyfirend would watch and get choked up over....

@cowboyusa: i saw it twice, two or three weeks ago and i still can´t stop crying. all of the scenes are on my mind, especially the ending. this is the best movie ever, not because it´s a gay movie, but because it is the first movie that really touched my heart and soul. i don´t like romantic movies, and i am definitely not a romantic person at all. however, i can´t stop crying when i think of this movie, the performance of the actors appears to be so real that i even feel sorry for ennis. anyway, i hope i get over this soon beacause i don´t feel alright these days. i think the main reason is that i feel identified with ennis, i have always hidden my feelings for fear of what people may say. so much so, that i have spent my whole life living alone. (i am just 25, anyway). but i wouldn´t like to grow old and find myself in ennis shoes, looking back in time without being able to relive the days gone by. so, i hope this movie causes the same impact on everybody, it´s time we all wake up and stop pretending. although i believe in god, i don´t really know if there is an afterlife. so i think we should enjoy what we have right here right now, cause then it could be too late.

NB: i also bought the sountrack to this movie and it´s just great. i don´t like country music, but these songs have something special. there is more than one song that fits the movie perfectly, so...
and i´m proud that the songwriter is an argentinian man, just as i am. cheers.

by the way, happy birthday heath ledger! (april 4th). today bbm is released on DVD!

already on dvd? :O

yep, check the official website:

http://www.brokebackmountain.com/

yeah they pushed all the oscat winniner out onto dvd fast to ” capitalize” on the buz.....they need better extras on the brokeback dvd.....just more insightful stuff, the copy i got at target also comes with an audio cd of the short story brokeback was made of which is really cool

an audio cd about the shortstory? that´s great! can´t wait to have it!

i don’t know if it was limited to target, stores like target and walmart do exclusve stuff liek that so you may want to check, its gonna be interesting to listen to after seeing the movie to see what nuances they may have left out.....i am debating whether or not to spring the movie on my bf this weekend :)

I saw the movie last week and I think it’s great: excellent performances, excellent script, beatiful music ... just a masterpice. What I found really interesting it’s the fact that the spectator never actually knows why they love each oher so much: there is a lot of intimate details that are never shown. The performances from the actors are so real, so deep.. i felt bad for several days after watching this movie. It’s not just another gay movie trying to create “gay-pretty woman”, it’s a deep drama with a fantastic message.

Finally seen this movie. I thought it was good, but maybe a little overhyped. You can guarentee that if it was a straight film it would’ve done nothing at box office. Yeah, the scenery and camera work were excellent, but it could’ve been around 30 mins shorter.

Glad I finally saw it though
