Alanis' JLP Acoustic

OH MY, how brilliant is this CD!!
I thought it would be good, but I didn’t know THIS good.
After two very under-rated albums (don’t know what was so bad with So Called Chaos?!?!?!), it is good to see her back in shops again.
I hope this get’s the success it’s right fully deserves.

It’s similar but the vocals are as amazing as ever. I know it’s her first album, but I would’ve like to have seen That I Would Be Good on here. Amazing song

As far as I know, JLP was NOT her first album. Just check discographies! :P
pwbbounce (moderator) said on July 25, 2005 13:49:
Okay Santi - no it’s not her first album. Just her first album which had success. Why are people so picky! Everyone knew what I meant. And I didn’t have to check discog’s for that. And it was a dancy/pop record compared to her normal style

I have her first (self titled) album and LORD is it a far cry from what she’s been doing in recent years!! I’ve never been able to get hold of her second one tho, Now is the time!

i like her , but dont get me wrong i just think its abit of a quick money maker from fans nice though.
Santi said on July 25, 2005 14:16:
Oh well... nothing like releasing 5 times the same songs in “different” compilations, right? :D
I think that at least she worked on it, others make faster money! :P
purplemedusa said on July 25, 2005 14:20:
Good point Santi... atleast she’s not re-releasing JLP (which everone’s got) but instead gave a new update & revised version. But I’ve got to add that i prefer the original album’s frontcover more!!

This album was a nice surprise. Really good. Even being the same great songs the accoustic touch is amazing and refreshed them a lot.
The best one for me is Your House so much better than the original and really powerful vocals.
Shows that Alanis still has her thing rolling. But the Under Rug Swept and So-Called Chaos were a bit of let down. There are some good songs on them but just that.
Let’s hope next years’ new cd brings the old Alanis back...

Am goin to get this cd this evening when i do my shopping in Sainsbury’s. However I think Under Rug Swept is Alanis’ best effort......a tremendously accessible and uplifting album. JLP is gr8, SFIJ OK, Unlugged average but So-Called Chaos downright ABYSMAL! Hopefuly people will remember Alanis now for her brilliance all over again (!)
pwbbounce (moderator) said on July 25, 2005 16:24:
I agree too realsuga. I really like Under Rug Swept, but I don’t like SFIJ at all. It’s boring, and the songs are too strange for my liking (apart from Thank U, Joing You & That I Would Be Good).
Can’t wait to leave work so I can listen to the CD again!

I like “Under Rug Swept” best too, “That Particular Time” is just beautiful! And pwbbounce, just to be a little bit pickier still, Alanis’ first (self-titled) album was a huge success in Canada (the only country where it was released)... sure it was only teenagers that were buying that kind of music (she was a teen herself then, of course!), but it sold really well and she even won a Juno for her work (Canada’s Grammy). The first three singles went top 2 in Canada! The second album, “Now is the Time” was far less successful... thank God, because it forced a badly-needed change of direction.

Thanks for clearing that up :-p
After another listen, not sure if it’s a little too boring. A lot of the songs sounds the same as the original. They’ve just changed the guitars from electric to acoustic. Your House is cool though

Tried to listen to it again. I’ve worked out what’s wrong with it. The majority of the songs are angry, meaning that the lyrics don’t really suit the new acoustic versions. The one which sounds the best is Head Over Feet.
Listened to the original version instead afterwards. Forgot how good it was!

what a mutilation of an album it would be like sarah mclachlan turning afterglow into a hip hop album ick

This was definitely a cash-in project. It’s a rotten, uninspired cd.......Under Rug Swept is sensational and she should stick to creating stuff like that. She’s gotten way too old before her time. Wake Up still a classik tho and deserved to be a single!

YEAH it’s the international release date for this CD... can’t wait to go pick up my copy!!! This is gonna b a total suprise for me hearing these new versions... hoping that it’s gonna b slightly different from the Unplugged sound, tho!!
