England vs France

Why do they hate each other so much?? The battle of Trafalgar is a couple of hundred years ago and they are still at it!!
President Chirac said that you cant trust any country where the food is so awful and that the only thing the brittish farmers ever gave europe was madcow.
The frontpage of a newspaper here in England read : DONT TALK CREPE.
It is all very entertaining but why do they dislike eachother so much??
I know they argue where the EU is concerned and i know they are both running for a change to host the 2012 olympics - so this might all tense things up a bit but still.. i dont really get it.

I love France, and french people....but then there isnt the same rivalry between the scots and the french...probably because we were allies with them against england in the past.
In this case though, i am on Blair’s side. The CAP should be scrapped

ncurran said on July 5, 2005 16:26:
Just because you are ginger, doesnt mean you are scottish....
and i didnt hear him insulting haggis
ncurran said on July 5, 2005 16:30:
by the way i do think Chirac is a prat, but then so is Blair.
I’m on Blair’s side over the whole CAP debate, but i was on Chirac’s side when it came to the Iraq war

Everyone I seem to speak to here in the UK says they hate France and French people and I don’t understand why.... they don’t do this, that or the other, a lot people tell me they don’t make an effort trying to speak English if you holiday there, but I see that as such crap, it’s there country it’s up to us as tourist to learn there language...
Although I went to France years ago I don’t really remember much about it, but I don’t have a problem with the French!
BTW, Sorry Paris, London to win 2012! :)
rox-kuryliw said on July 5, 2005 17:30:
i just think they is enough division and nit picking in the world !
rox-kuryliw said on July 5, 2005 17:36:
BTW , scotland has the most ginger people on the planet !other ginger people can be traced back to that reigion of the world doing dna test , fact. i love ginger people, not enough kicking around lol, love my hoildays in scotland aswell , and never had a problem.
This all came about with chirac cos they are meeting in scotland and he said not that dame food again, (cos they serve them haggis apparently)

wonder why he doesn’t want to get bullied around anymore...like a dog, there’s only ONE master :D
Love the french! It’s not really difficult to get along with them once you speak their language...
And I love Vix, so won’t take any side ;)
ncurran said on July 5, 2005 18:35:
Yes ginger people would definitely have Celtic roots, but not necessarily scottish....and ginger hair is pretty rare. I dont know why the subject of ginger hair was brought into the conversation anyway ??
Anyway, i think Chirac has a point about British food. We do have some of the best restaurants in the world, but when it comes to what individuals and families eat at mealtimes, the french would win on quality and health hands down.

Comment by StillFar about sums it up ........’Love the french! It’s not really difficult to get along with them once you speak their language...’

no...... i really shouldn’t make any comment on this issue.

I had a laugh about the mad cows comment! One has to be stupid to be caught in such situation.. it is just embarrasing!
I’ve never been to England so I cannot comment. But I didn’t like the times I’ve been in France, not at all. I’ve been 3x in Paris and cannot tell which time I hated it the most. Once I even had slight problems breathing because of that pollution cloud they have flying over the city. Not to talk about the time my parents and I drove to Germany with the caravan and had to stop in French resting areas, it felt like stepping back in time when I saw those toiletts / wholes on the floor where I was supposed to pee.. and man! did that stink!! And last but not least, I can’t stand French language, it gets on my nerves, I can’t do anything about that, I just get *iiiiihhh* when I hear it.
Of course, this doesn’t keep me from having French friends (as long as they speak in English ;)) :P We just bug eachother about our countries and have a laugh and that’s it :)
Re. 2012, I’m for Madrid, but I’m sure they won’t get it. Either London or NY as both countries (specially the last one) need some reputation back ;)

england v. france is the same as scotland v. england. Outdated historical conflict we can’t really get over. Tends to be exaccerbated by sports and beer.
I’m Scottish, so I get to witness it all.
@rox,
All Scots are secretly ginger, Neil was just lying. Haggis also runs in our veins.

i think the french leader needs to grow up !, he cant be THAT clever seeing that the worlds best resturant was voted to be in england ! how ironic ?
I think tony blair is for the first time doing something right , showing he isnt being bullied by france , germany, russia, (as they were all together at the time slagging the uk off) im pleased tony isnt getting involved with this stupid petty name calling from country to country , you just need to rise above it as a leader and act professional in my opinion, not like the french. Hope tony acts like a professional about it all.
ps Im glad someone posted something about the french leader saying something about UK, cos i was gonna if not lol.
