Summersongs in Sweden/Norway/Finland

Hej everyone! Together with 2 very good friends, I will go on a journey through Scandinavia this summer. In order to show my friends that Scandinavian music is far more than just ABBA, I would like to prepare a CD for them with nice Scandinavian songs. Do you have any suggestions (of course apart from Sommartider ;-) )? The songs should have nice poppy melodies, preferably so-called sing-along-songs, shall be sung in the native language and represent the feeling of the country. Please help me to make a list. What is your favourite Scandinavian Summer Song? Thank you so much in advance! Kai

Postgirobygget “Idyll”
Postgirobygget “En Solskinnsdag”
De Lillos “Neste sommer”

Lillebjørn Nilsen “Bysommer”
Jokke & Valentinerne “Sola skinner”
All I could remember for now

I don’t think you’ll do much for them appreciating Scandinavian music if you only show them summer songs, unless they’re Eurovision fans...

@ tevensso & tcooh: Thank you for your help! I checked out some of the songs and I liked them.
@ santi: of course, summer songs is definitely not the only genre, at least not the typical one. I just wanted to have a few suggestions on some happy songs. They shall bring good moods, they are not meant to be to do a party. I like rather calm music, too. If you have some good examples, please tell me. Nordic music is known for its melodies, and sometimes for its depressive factor. We could use both in order to show the wide range. What do you think?

I was not a fan of Ace of Base but I liked their summer song “Cruel Summer”. Do you remember? This single came out about 10 years ago and it was a very great hit.

Cruel Summer by Ace of Base is not exactly very “Scandinavian”. It’s a cover of Bananarama´s song.
Ah, ok... Scandinavian music in their languages... let’s see :D
I like Finn singer Ismo Alanko, but it’s a bit sinister and I wouldn’t call it “calm music”. My fav song of him is Peltirumpu, but it’s a bit too rocky maybe... For that kind of “summer song” sound you want from Finland, even though I don’t know much on Finland’s music I would recommend you Nylon Beat’s “Viimeinen”. (yes, with 3 “i”s).
Sweden, anything by Kent is nice, out of the summer song stuff. You may try a very sweet song of them that deals with “typical Swedish stuff” and welcomes you to the country, called “Sverige” from Vapen & Ammunition. A calm and beautiful song in Swedish in my opinion is Ulf Lundell’s “Öppna Landskap”. For more folk touches, what about “Segla på ett moln” by Per Gessle (demo featuring Marie Fredriksson) or something by the band called Sverige, like “Flickan ifrån Karlaplan”. If you want a more ethnic flavour put Värttinä, Garmarna or Hedningarna.
From Norway I just know English speaking, but it’s not bad either. Apart from acts like A-ha that everyone knows, check out Morten Abel (“Hard to stay awake”, “Be my lover”, “Lydia”, “Music is communicating”, “Doberman”, “Don’t forget me”...) or Briskeby (“Propaganda”, “Cellophane Eyes”). Morten Abel has a nice song in Norwegian called “Hodet over vannet”.
Finally out of Scandinavia, but staying in the North, there’s an Icelandic song that I love and sounds like a summer song:
Endalausar nætur, by the band Buttercup.

A superb and funny Norwegian summerhit I forgot (about the sweet life as Norwegians in Denmark, hehe): Bjelleklang “Gud - Hvor Du Er Deilig”
Other Norwegian hitcharters during summers, but perhaps not typical summerhits, but still very optimistic and energic.
Bjørn Eidsvåg & Lisa Nilsson “Mysteriet deg”
Dum Dum Boys “Splitter Pine”
Odd Nordstoga “Kveldssong for deg og meg”
Di Derre “Jenter som kommer og jenter som går”
Folk og Røvere feat Maria Solheim “Helt Perfekt”
Jahn Teigen “Optimist”
Jahn Teigen “Det Vakreste Som Finns”
Ole Idole “Det Vakke Min Skyld”
Gitarkameratene “Gammel Amazon”
Åge Aleksandersen “Levva Livet”
Preble Humb & Morten Abel “Hodet Over Vannet” - Good taste Santi :)
Vamp & Morten Abel “Byen”
Intrigue “Engel”
Morten Harket “Camilla og tyven”
Tor Endresen “Ingen Er Så Nydelig Som du”
DDE “Rai Rai”
CC Cowboys “Vill vakker og våt”
CC Cowboys “Nå kommer jeg å tar deg”

Hej, I know that last song of CC Cowboys! I downloaded it from Napster some 6 years ago :D
By the way... DDE are not the ones that sing “Øl Øl og mere Øl”? :D I remember me and my German roommate in Sweden made fun of that song all the time!! :DDD
tcooh said on June 3, 2005 15:16:
I haven’t heard DDE singing “Øl, Øl og mere Øl” no, but would be fun to hear/see that LOL. 3 Busserulls had the song originally, now Vestlandsfanden (one of the former members of 3 Busserulls) mostly playes it.
But pretty much every one sings that when the beer comes out :P See, that song keeps bringing out smiles all around :DDD - LOL

Interesting so far! Hm, should I better have asked for cult songs? Is it this I actually searched for? Hmmmmmm.....
BTW, thanks a lot for your help so far! Kai
