Fucking Åmål, Kopps, Jalla Jalla and Den Osynglige were good movies as far as I remember.

There is great Swedish movies. All Beck movies are great. Mikael Persbrandt is one of the best actors in the world.

The Best Intentions is one of my all-time favorites, It was a miniseries I believe, but it was shortened into a theatrical international release. Should be able to find it on video, DVD wasn’t available last I checked. Bille August directed. I think there are sequels—Private Conversations and Sunday’s Children.
Fanny & Alexander, Pelle the Conquerer (I think is Swedish.)
The Seventh Seal (Den Sjunde Insiglet—something like that) is a classic of World Cinema. You’ll see echoes of it (mixed in with a little Fellini) in the You Don’t Understand Me video.
Just about anything by Ingmar Bergman, usually very moody and a bit strange, but watchable nonetheless.

Paradiset, Sprängaren .. are OK, the only but is that Colin Nutley only has one actress in mind: his wife Helena Bergström, whom I think is a horrible actress.

I actually like Colin Nutley’s films... I must admit i’m not a huge fan of Helena but I’ve seem a lot worse!!

I really like the Änglagård movies. Swedish movies are usually pretty strange and they have weird endings, but Änglagård is great. I also enjoyed Mitt Liv Som Hund and Fucking Åmal.

i have to write a review of “das schweigen” (“tystnaden”) by ingmar bergman for university ... but i don’t know what i should think about this movie ... strange and boring on the on hand but very deep and interesting on the other hand ... and btw kinda brave for that time (1963) ...
it’s worth watching this film.

I love all films of Lukas Moodysson and would reallly recommend them:
-Fucking Åmål
-Tillsammans
-Lilja 4-ever
These films are very good in my opinion as well:
-Vägen ut
-Sjön
-Det nya landet
I trained my Swedish with them as well.
Hope it helps! :)

I think it is a bit difficult to practice Swedish with Lilja 4-ever :)
I would say it is a good movie, but I would not say is nice.

have you people forgotten Så som i himmelen?? A very beutiful movie I think, you should see it. Very good actors and everything. Haven’t seen Fucking Åmål but I guess it’s good since everybody say it. :)
SolensVaen said on May 17, 2005 18:48:
@Santi: :S Of course, you’re so right, Lilja 4-ever is not good for training Swedish! But it’s a really good film even if it’s not nice as you said. But it goes under the skin, most impressing film I ever saw!

Yesterday I saw Sommarnattens Leende (Smiles of a Summer Night) by Ingmar Bergman (1953) and I thought it was very nice and even funny :)
I would recommend this one though because if the obvious technical improvements is easier to listen actors speak Swedish in new movies than in old ones. But it’s a very good film anyway.

I like “Så som i himmelen” / “As it is in heaven” very much, I think you should see it if you want to see a good swedish movie.

There are no good Swedish movies, although Fucking Åmål (Show Me Love) is quite OK.
