German movies

Can anyone recommend some good German films? I am thinking of studying to become a german teacher later this year....my german used to be really good, but i’m a bit out of practice as i havent spoken it for nearly three years, and i was thinking of ordering a few dvds to get back into listening to the language.

Stalingrad

Lola Rent

Okay, some good ones that were in the cinemas here in Ireland and the UK were:

Run Lola Run (Lola rent) - was even voted film of the year by the viewer of the Irish Film Centre!, Good Bye Lenin, The Edukator, Downfall, (Der Untergang).

Downfall is an extremely well done film that had me to tears at the end of it. Such a humbling film to watch with great and beautiful actresses in it!

Oh and don’t forget the all time classic: Das Boot! About the submarine U96 in the 2nd worldwar.

Oh, another good one is:
Das Experiment.

Metropolis!

Edit: Blond me; It’s a silent film! LOL! Defeats the object!

Edit 2: Neil I’m glad to hear you’ve found your feet again, buddy!! Best wishes with the new job!!

“Knockin´on Heavens Door” and “Sonnenalle”

GOOD BYE LENIN ... very good!

Der Untergang

haven’t watched many German films.. I liked Blueprint and Bandits (cool music!)

“Bandits” is fun... :)

Otherwise... hm... “Der Bockerer” (part 1 and 2) is quite a good film... But it’s Austrian, so I dunno if it’s any help for improving the so-called “high German”... ;)

Can’t come up with more... not exactly a fan of German (or Austrian) films... most of the actors are really crappy IMHO.

@grisu: is sonnenallee good? i’ve been wanting to see it for ages but can’t get my hands on a copy!!

wings of desire. has nick cave in it too.

Traumschiff surprise, Der Schuh des Manituh,Autobahn Raser,Der Untergang,Das Boot

Mephisto

Der Bewegte Mann (Maybe, Maybe Not) I remember was funny.

another very nice german movie (which won many awards) is

___ OSTENDE ___

and btw: it has “listen to your heart” in it. the film is directed by ilka schulz, my teacher in “directing” ;)

Das Boot is also good movie

“Napola”, Germany 2004
and
“Goodbye Lenin”, Germany 2003.
