Let's elect the best booklet!

Hi, Folks!
I don’t know if this was made before, but I would like to know your favourite Roxette booklet among the following ones:
Pearls Of Passion
Look Sharp!
Joyride
Tourism
Crash! Boom! Bang!
Rarities
Roxette’s Greatest Hits (Don’t Bore Us - Get To The Chorus!)
Baladas En Español
Have A Nice Day
Room Service
The Ballad Hits
The Pop Hits
My choice is “Look Sharp!” booklet as the best, because it was very original, with that “newspaper appearance”...
And the worst is, definitely, “Pearls Of Passion” booklet...
And how about your choices, guys?

I rather like the Ballad/Pop Hits collections. Although reminiscent of DBU in the texts—especially as most seem to be lifted from DBU—I like the addition of the video stills, as the paper stock. Good packaging.
The more I think about it—Looks Sharp!’s liner is a rather clever piece.

The best one:
“Look Sharp!”: nice and original artwork, I love those old adds! And no just lyrics, it has funny liner notes too! I love that old newspaper style!
I also love the colourful “Have A Nice Day”, sadly it’s very scarce in photos.
The poorest one:
“Baladas en español”: recycled and old photos, those horrible roses and too much brown! It’s just HORRIBLE. “Joyide” in not very special either.

ROOM SERVICE - very nice photos on good paper. Then Crash! Boom! Bang!

Yes, Look sharp is great with the paper-like lay-out and the Ads

Look Sharp! - very nice paper style. Also I like Mazarin booklet a lot because of Per’s artworks :P

It’s a case of substance vs. style for me... Tourism got loads of nice photo’s however the design is weak!! CBB & RS had awesome designs but reallu very little pix!!
Personally I kinda like the South African version of Baladas & Espanol’s booklet with the blue instead of the brown!!
But my fav Rox-related booklets got to b MF’s DSR, IETSV & Mazarin!!
I must just say i was HIGHLY disapointed when i got my copy of Konstpaus though... that was really AWEFULL!!!
Good topic BTW!!
tevensso (moderator) said on April 6, 2005 15:54:
I think they let Stevie Wonder design Konstpaus...

I know this wasn’t in the list, but when Medusa mentioned it I’ll dare too:
DEN STANDIGA RESAN, followed by I EN TID SOM VAR.
They are excellent artwork and I must admit, that sometimes I get inspired by them when I do my work... :-)
(I DON’T COPY ANYTHING!!!!!)

Is there anywhere where I can see a scan of the LS booklet?
I’ve never seen it, my second-hand copy of it was bugged when I first got it :P
abysmo said on April 6, 2005 18:50:
Room Service is the best, but Per looks a bit strange on it. The Pop Hits is good also. The worst booklet is Have A Nice Day and Pearls Of Passion. Per looks very good in Mazarin booklet. And ofcourse, he and Marie look great in Look Sharp booklet, great photos. On Joyride photos is too much makeup.
And the best of singles: Almost Unreal and June Afternoon loks cool.
Singles covers are here: http://www.roxroom.wz.cz/disco.htm

June Afternoon cover looks a bit like a psychodelic nightmare to me. Especially the back-side.
Staffany said on April 6, 2005 20:43:
The worst single sleeve is “Almost Unreal”: horrible design, and the photo is from the Fingertips ’93 video. No well inspirated at all!
My favourite Marie booklet is “Efter stormen”: very simple and classy design and it has the more beautiful photos I’ve seen!
I can understadn why some people like “Baladas en Español” booklet. The photos are recycled, originally from the “Fireworks” session (also featured on the 94/95 Tour Programme), dull roses and the brown-ish layout. It inspires me illness and depression... :-s
alexandre100 said on April 6, 2005 23:28:
I like “Have A Nice Day” booklet, too! It has a tridimensional way (as if Per and Marie were stucked in a “parallel world”...), the paper is very good (it has a plastic texture), and that sea landscape at the back cover is just wonderful!
Staffany said on April 7, 2005 03:44:
Yeah, that sea landscape is so wonderful, it’s something sureal, it seems an extra-Earth sea!
On the other hand, the back cover of the “Room Service” booklet doesn’t have anything on it, it’s just a red square. I never liked that...
Rox1_4ever said on April 7, 2005 14:54:
Have a nice day is the best!!!
It sounds not like the other album...I love it!!!
James_Earp said on April 7, 2005 16:17:
Ballad hits and Look sharp is the two best. Joyride is the worst.
tevensso (moderator) said on April 7, 2005 16:52:
@Rox_1: “Sounds”? We are talking about the sleeves here. :)
ncurran said on April 7, 2005 21:03:
I think Room service is the best cover/booklet aswell. The colouring is great, and Marie looks fantastic and stylish
Jud (moderator) said on April 7, 2005 21:24:
I still haven’t made up my mind... let’s say the ones I don’t like so much (or at all) are PoP, HAND, TBH and TPH :)

Hmmmm—I AM a professional graphic designer. . . I’ve worked for a puplishing company as a graphic designer/illustrator for almost ten years.
alexandre100 said on April 7, 2005 23:22:
To all of you:
It’s not required to be a (professional) graphic designer to post your comments in this thread...
to @Staffany:
I agree with you. That back cover of the Room Service booklet is a shame! Would that be a lack of creativity?
Staffany said on April 8, 2005 00:13:
Yes, you are right, it’s not necessary to be a graphic designer to have a good taste. We can have our opinion about this stuff anyway. I have designed some flyers (using Paint, LOL), but the results were very good. I haven’t studied for that, however.
That “empty red square” on back cover of the Room Service booklet could be replaced with some photo. This one, for example:
http://www.roxette.co.uk/gallery/pictures/centre/Roxette_Lineup.jpg
I don’t like that photo very much, just to give you an example. There are more photos from that session. They are better than a red square, in my opinion!
RobS said on April 8, 2005 07:24:
@zargo: i’ll send you a scan when i get a chance.
Best booklet: Room Service followed closely by TBH/TPH. I really like the overall design of the compilation discs.
and i love Marie’s Antligen booklet too :-D
Zargo said on April 8, 2005 08:23:
@ Staffany - Wow, cool vamps in that pic!
@ RobS - Muchos gracious :)
coyboyusa said on April 8, 2005 08:24:
hand firslty cause it was their first true glossy bookelt something all artists should do, it had all the lyrics and the imagry was kinda a hark back to the hokey images of the late 60’s. ANd it was bright it stood out on the cd racks, my close second is cbb cause it was plain per and marie, no make upor sight gags , which perfectly highlighted the no bs sound of cbb
Staffany said on April 8, 2005 11:38:
@Coyboyusa:
“imagry, ark back to the hokey images, no bs sound...”
Can you descipher your own post, LOL. I don’t understand those words!
alexandre100 said on April 9, 2005 00:59:
One more reason to put a beautiful picture at the booklets back covers: It could hide that terrible round and white mark of the CD holder...
Rich-UK said on April 5, 2005 23:22:
I like Crash! Boom! Bang! & Don’t Bore Us the best equally.
