At the moment Jesus died, according to accounts, the sky darkened and the ground shook. Did this happen all over the world, or in just that specific locale? It seems that such an event, given the magnitude of the individual involved, should have affected the entire planet – meaning there would be a record of such, in the ancient writings of numerous other cultures living around the world at that time. This is true of other phenomena that affected the entire planet, such as a long-ago supernova explosion in another galaxy that was seen by every society on earth, and mentioned in their lore.
Or, was that “sky darkened and the ground shook” information merely embellishment, added to the story much later, by someone who was not present, but figured something like that SHOULD have happened? How much of the Bible consists of somebody’s opinion of what he thought should have happened, rather than the actual facts?
P.S. Wasn’t Lazarus the FIRST person to be resurrected from the dead? Might it be said Lazarus was the “Neil Armstrong” of resurrections?

is exactly what I think, yet I still use this book as my guide to everyday good living...

I think you should look at the message that the Bible gives and not at the stories themselves. In the old days people used to tell stories to pass on messages, sometimes they were true some others they weren’t and probably that is the same with the Bible, as time passes by you don’t know which story is true and which isn’t but the message remains the same...

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!
Well, today’s Easter not all over the world. Some ortodoxal churches (Ukrainian, Russian, Serbian and some others) use ” the old style” - Julian calendar, so we usually celebrate religious feasts on different days: feasts with a fixed date two weeks later, the others... it must be more difficult calculation. For example, this year ortodoxal Easter is on the May 1.

ye i forgot about that Julian calendar , as i have christmas and easter again aswell ! (just to be on the safe side, and why not :-D)
Jud (moderator) said on May 1, 2005 15:34:
yeah, a colleague from work is Romanian and Ortodox and celebrates Easter this weekend.

Jude: Easter is supposed to represent the Resurrection of Jesus Christ...
I don’t know if you ever got that answer....
Jud (moderator) said on May 2, 2005 05:17:
yes yes but was not sure what day he was supposed to have died. Funny how, Easter is always moving in the calendar so it looks like nobody knows when he died or?
Santi said on May 2, 2005 06:42:
Nobody knows when he was born either, and the reason why we celebrate it at the end of the year is the assimilation of pagan festivals of the winter solstice.
Santi said on May 2, 2005 17:11:
Actually most things about Jesus are not known. In my opinion is mainly mythological stuff. Probably as real as all the stories about Zeus or any other God. This link is interesting:
Or what they say about Christ:

Peace to everyone...

You know, if to study closer christian feasts, there will be tooo much of not accidental coincidences with pagan festivals ;)
Jud (moderator) said on May 2, 2005 18:42:
well they needed to act fast so they just took them for themselves .. they got rid of the pagan religion /mythology but kept the dates.. because people were used to them ;)

Phew... if I was in a better frame of mind / mood, I’d contribute to this. Gimme a bit... maybe I will by the rise of the moon.

*Pass Spooks some ’happy’ tobacco*
Hey my boy’s (he’s Greek 4 those who 4got) also taking FULL advantage of the ’late easter’... trust us to SMS whilst he’s in church (won’t reveal the nature of those SMS’s *evil grin*)!
Getting back to the topic; I’m not really arsed about technical details of religion. I think the very nature of religion needs to be re-evaluated... it simply doesn’t serve the global community instead it seek to alienate in the race to spread ’truth’!
LittleSpooky said on May 3, 2005 17:34:
Thanks Purp... but I just don’t know. See my topic that I just created.
