Finally we get recycling!

Finally our street has today got a letter in the post from the council to say we have been included in the new recycling routes! about time, been happening for around 8 years in some parts of Bolton!
I have been mithering for ages about getting included in it as we pay the same taxes as everyone else... and when I started to work for the council I got more involved and got my local MP onto it as well!
I have been recycling stuff for ages by taking it to the tips or recycling bins at the supermarket, which can sometimes be a bit awkward when you have no car!
So I am awaiting my nice new shiny green wheelie bin for garden waste and my green box for all my bottles and cans etc...
YIPPEEE! :)

You’d be surprised the amount of people than cannot be arsed... esp some of the calls I take from the knobs that because they pay high council tax think they are too above themselves to seperate stuff and that the council should do it for them... lazy arses...

That’s excellent!
In my local area, we have three wheelie bins! One with a green lid for garden waste, one with a yellow lid for bottles, cartons, etc. and one with a red lid for general non recyclable waste, which is about 2/3 the size of the other two bins. That’s a good thing because if you put everything in the red one, it would be overflowing, and everyone would know you’re not recycling!

we have different bins aswell, but only one for paper and one for garden waste, and a general bin. We need one for glass and for plastic. The council needs to provide bins for all the different materials. because its the only way to get people recyclying if its convenient for them. Very few people are going to go to the hassle of driving to their supermarket with all their rubbish to put it all in the recycling bins

I agree and where Jackie lives she has three large wheelie bins (a bit like Kazza) so you can put stuff in seperate bins.... The recycling box we provide is more like the size of a packing box for moving house, but home owners can ask for another.... thing is it don’t have a lid and living in a small house I have no where to store the thing, but I’ll still find somewhere to shove it. Would be better with a smaller wheelie bin so you can throw your stuff in that!

Recycling is one of the good solutions, but , of course, people should have their respect.
I guess I will have to wait a lot till I see that in my country, unless I do it , of course.
Litter is one of the biggest (ecological) problems from the visible ones. But there are so many others that few people suspect of.

I started recycling in the new year...
Swansea City Council freely pick up all you tins, glass, and paper every two weeks.
It’s not comprehensive by any means, but it’s a great start.
There are no free bins, you have to bag and bin the waste on your own expense, but that’s cool.
I’m so surprised by the sheer amount of waste I collect on a weekly basis.
I wish more people would make the effort.

Do you recycle (food) left-overs? (you know used coffee filter papers etc.) sp?
I do and find that very important thing to do.

I have a green bin for veg and fruit uncooked which I bin in there and turns into compost for the garden! :)
I also recycle batteries, but I’ve done that for years... just save them in an old time and when it’s full take it to the tip to a special recycling point...
