The Roxette Worldwide Greatest Hits
alexandre100 said on March 6, 2005 01:27:
Hi Folks.
As all of you must know, these are the Roxette greatest hits that made “some” success worldwide:
01. The Look
02. Dressed For Success
03. Listen To Your Heart
04. Dangerous
05. It Must Have Been Love
06. Joyride
07. Fading Like A Flower
08. The Big L.
09. Spending My Time
10. How Do You Do!
11. Queen Of Rain
12. Almost Unreal
13. Sleeping In My Car
14. Crash! Boom! Bang!
15. Run To You
16. Vulnerable
17. You Don’t Understand Me
18. I Don’t Want To Get Hurt
19. Wish I Could Fly
20. Stars
21. Anyone
22. Salvation
23. The Center Of The Heart
24. Real Sugar
25. Milk And Toast And Honey
26. A Thing About You
27. Opportunity Nox
But there’s another three ones that I would like to add to the list:
28. I’m Sorry
29. Un Dia Sin Ti
30. From One Heart To Another
That three songs were played many times here in Brazil radio stations.
So, here is the point, guys: is there more songs that didn’t made success worldwide but were successful in your countries, and could be added to this real “Worldwide Greatest Hits” List?
Staffany said on March 6, 2005 04:53:
I know “Fireworks” was pretty successful in South Africa. Am I wrong?
Can you tell us where “I Don’t Want To Get Hurt” was a hit? Just in Brazil, as long as I know.
lerox said on March 7, 2005 14:05:
I would like to add to this list “Paint”, that was a huge hit in Brazil in 1989. And the first song from the Baladas en espanol to be airplayed in Brazil “No se si es amor’.
alexandre100 said on March 7, 2005 21:58:
I made a mistake: It’s not “Un Dia Sin Ti” that I wanted to add to the list, but “No Se Si És Amor” as @lerox did...
@Staffany
For all I know, “I Don’t Want To Get Hurt” was very successful here in Brazil. I don’t know if it was succesful in other countries. But it’s the intention: to gather all the songs that were successful, at least, in just one country...
sommartiderhejhej said on March 7, 2005 22:11:
If it had to be succesful in only 1 country:
I believe that “Neverending Love” was a succes in Sweden.
alexandre100 said on March 7, 2005 22:19:
Could someone tell me if “Voices” were played on the radio stations here in Brazil at the first release of “Pearls Of Passion”? Because, the first time that I listened it in 1998, I felt a kind of “dèja vu”...

Up here in Winnipeg, it was “Soul Deep” (POP version)– they played that a lot!
Starrox said on March 7, 2005 23:48:
June afternoon was played on the radio pretty often in Germany and still gets played from time to time - in fact, I last heard it last night!
Funnily enough, it seems like it’s getting more airplay during wintertime...

Yea, “Fireworks” was #1 for two consecutive weeks here in South Africa.
Other songs that got played quite a bit on the radio and made the top 10’s are: “Church of your heart”, “June Afternoon”, “She doesn’t live here anymore” and believe it or not “Here comes the weekend”.
Cheers

Around the time of the Tourism album, (I Could Never) Give You Up was getting a LOT of radio airplay in the Channel Islands (UK). Don’t know if this counts, thought I’d mention it
AURYTE said on March 8, 2005 21:42:
And if you are intersted in Lithuanian Roxette-list, then Things Will Never Be The Same & Church Of Your Heart are played on quite regular basis here.
In addition, in the radio programme where people can request songs, She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore was selected as the song which got the most requests. I don’t know if this counts cos it was the first (!!!) and perhaps the last time when this song was played in that radio station.

“Small talk” had a huge airplay around 91-92 here in Brazil too. Nowadays is the song “Breathe” that is playing in some A/C brazilian radios a lot.
lerox said on March 9, 2005 18:01:
In 92 a live version of Spending my time was played for a long time in the biggest radio stations of Brazil, as well as, a roxette medley (roxette megamix).
I never heard Small talk or Breathe but I saw Breathe in some radio charts.

Almost Unreal was successful in the UK
The Look and It must have been Love appear on MAGIC - the music video channel at times

In Poland
I must say that singles from look sharp and joyride were very bigs hits here.
CBB?I think only CBB and Sleeping in My car got attention of media and people.
HAND- only Wish i could fly... rest of the singles didn’t make it really...
RS- all singles played regurarly but only M&T&H was doing well.
Pop & Ballad hits- ATAY played often even on polish MTV and 1st place on the chartshow of the polish most popular radio station for few consecutive weeks! ON? I didn’t hear it nowhere.
I must say that many roxette songs are played in polish radio stations or even polish MTV even now. Joyride, , IMHBL, HDYD, The Big L., CBB, Spending My time, M&T&H, The Look, Dangerous, LTYH, Sleeping in my car are played regurarly by biggest radio stations.
Worth mentioning is also fact that one of the radio stations used Spending My Time in their TV commercial in 2003 or 2004 (don’t remember). Their whole playlist is based on Roxette ballads (this radio plays only ballads, their advertising slogan is “gentle hits”) and you can hear very often while listening to this radio advertisments like this:
“their every ballad was a smashing hit... [SMT in background}...Roxette...[LTYH in background]... on Radio Plus [CBB in background]...only ’gentle hits’ [ATAY in background].”

I remember Harleys And Indians, it had been played much when Crash! Boom! Bang! came out in Italy. That song had excited many radio stations in the first place, and they wished it to become a single. Ma quello non è accaduto.
(sorry my english is bad).

Oh, I missed one. Fireworks is being played in Lithuania on regular basis.
@Bunio: There is a Polish radio station in Lithuania called Znad Wilii. And A Thing About You stayed at #1 for weeks on their Top 20!!!

One More:
“I was So Lucky”
I heard this music so many times in a radio station of Fortaleza [a town in Brazil].
AURYTE said on March 14, 2005 05:49:
Furthermore, it’s not a surprise to heart Fingertips and Hotblooded and Go To Sleep in Lithuania. Though not very often. And these ones are being played by only one radio station.

“Pay the price” was a single in Japan, as far as I know. It could have been released worldwide. I just love it. One of may favorites!
Superbullie said on June 17, 2005 09:36:
“Church of your heart” has also been released in Germany and I think in other European countries, too.
Ingo said on June 21, 2005 11:16:
“Church of your heart” was a worldwide release, reaching the Top 40 in the USA and the Top 30 in the UK and Germany. I think at a time where the Joyride album was already more than 1 year on the album charts, having sold many millions of copies, the success of that 5th single release was more than solid.
n-Somnia said on March 6, 2005 04:42:
Church of Your Heart was played a fair bit once upon a time. Not a major hit, but yeah.
