Why do people buy singles?
LaMan said on February 18, 2005 18:26:
I sometimes wonder if that´s normal thing to do or not lol. :)
What are your motives?
I mean why buy a thing for 1 song with 5 boring remixes or with songs that were too bad for the album??
In the UK singles are still sold a lot right?
I‘ve got a few Roxette and Madonna (for example) singles for different reasons.
cheers.

If you’re a die-hard fan, you’ll buy everything, singles included.
I usually buy singles if they contain some interesting extra tracks.
Strest said on February 18, 2005 19:56:
I’ll buy ’em to get a complete collection.
Except for that I don’t care about singles.

U2 releases 2 different versions of their singles. Very smart way to make more money...

Why are you only picking on U2?
Garbage sometimes release 3 editions of the same single, Madonna releases 2 editions of the same single, Roxette even release 2 editions of the same single... so why only U2?
I only buy singles if I really like the artist... whether it has b-sides or not... and want a full discography...

If you don’t wanna buy them, then don’t your not being forced to!
Strest said on February 19, 2005 00:37:
You can get a whole lot more than just 2 different editions of most of Roxette’s singles. At least the older stuff.
What I strongly dislike is artists/groups that release 10-20 different editions of a greatest hits album (like Bob Dylan and Robbie Williams).

The last single i bought was ”Single” (Nat. Beddingfield) hehe. Well i thought it was funny.

I’ve usually bought a single for B-sides and non-album releases. Travis (always seem to have two or three single releases with different extra trax—a great version of Queens’s Killer Queen and a live version of Spear’s Hit Me Baby One More Time), Roxette, Annie Lennox (from Diva & Medusa), Kate Bush, Eurythmics—really the only ones I’ve gotten.
Occasionally I’ll find a song I like but I have no interest in the album they came from. Not too keen on the remixes myself.
A department store in the US, Target, every once in a while will release a special EP that includes non-album trax, B-sides, accoustic versions & extra tracks of a popular group. I got a CD from U2 (some good stuff there) and an accoustic set from Maroon 5 (ho-hum).

I bought Natalia Imbruglia´s Beauty On The Fire single for a great song and great VIDEO. I never saw it on tv.

my simple answe is b sidesa, if roxette singles didnt have great b-sides i’d probably never buy them, hence my reason for not buying alot fo cranberries singles lol
frisso said on February 20, 2005 17:03:
because they can be worth lot’s of money through out the years.

Just proves how little you know coyboyusa...
The Cranberries have officially released 19 b-sides.
Read ’em and weap! :)
1. Reason
2. Them
3. What You Were
4. Liar
5. Away
6. I Don’t Need
7. (They Long To Be) Close To You
8. So Cold In Ireland
9. Ava Maria (feat. Pavarotti)
10. Go Your Own Way
11. God Be With You Ireland
12. Baby Blues
13. Sweetest Thing
14. Woman Without Pride
15. Such A Shame
16. Paparazzi On Mopeds
17. Such A Waste
18. Capetown
19. Many Days
And also...
1. Yesterdays Gone (MTV Unplugged)
Early Years:
1 Chrome Point (watercycle ep)
2 A Fast One (watercycle ep)
3 Nothing Left At All (nothing left at all ep)
4 Pathetic Senses (nothing left at all ep)
5 Take My Soul Away (nothing left at all ep)
6 Uncertain (uncertain ep)
7 Like You Used To (unknown)
8 False (unknown)
Along with many, many, many more...
19 official b-sides... that’s MORE than Roxette, isn’t it? Roxette have only released 9 b-sides, or something, on their singles... the number only becomes big when you include unused demos and songs on compilations...

I only buy Rox/GT/Marie/PG and Eva singles - the reason is a mix between the fact there’s a small collector in me and that some bsides are interesting :)
Else.. I don’t really bother, I also have almost all Brainpool singles and.. I think that’s all.. one with Suede I think, but don’t ask me why I got that one since I also have their Bsides or rare tracks CD.. I guess it was cheap or I won it :P
I have no clue how other artists do it but if it wouldn’t be for the bit of collector in me.. I would have never thought of getting En sten / Tuffa tider - what’s the point? :S

i said GOOD b-sides about 90% of the cranberries b-sides have be crap, only one roxette b-=side i didnt like.
Santi said on February 21, 2005 22:56:
I used to buy Oasis singles because the b-sides were almost better than album tracks, I bought some Roxette ones for the b-sides or the demos, some Bryan Adams one to avoid buying an “Unplugged” compilation, some others, like of Saint Etienne, to avoid buying an album, other you buy them for presents (because they are cheaper and you may mistake the tastes of the person that receive it, which would be a waste of money for you and an unnice item in the collection of that other person)...
I do not know, many different reasons...

Santi said on February 24, 2005 22:23:
Which ones? :P Am I the only one who thinks that Some Might Say and Wonderwall singles have the same amount of worth songs or even more than most current full CD releases? :D
ally77 said on February 26, 2005 22:04:
Depends which version you mean, I don’t like the UK one! I prefer the other European one!
man-on-the-moon said on February 18, 2005 18:31:
maybe because they don’t like all the songs on the album ....
maybe they can’t afford the album.
i think singles are a waste of money.
