Is Anyone Here An Avid Orienteer?

If so, do your best tales derive from entering a meet and routinely running a course quite well – or from doing something extremely stupid, and landing in a bizarre self-inflicted dilemma?

Orienteering is a sport – it is land navigation using map and compass, the object being to locate a series of control points set in a large tract of wild land, forests and/or mountains. It is quite challenging and extremely enjoyable, not to mention physically and mentally beneficial. I think it was originally developed as a sport in Norway, but it is now practiced all over the world.

and what should the tales and other “technical” words be? :)

A tale is a personal account – a series of events or facts told or presented; a story.
