Pissed off about my Company!!!

Today reports have gone out on how the company I work for has performed for Quarter 4 of 2004. I work for eBay and we had another record breaking quarter. Good news, wouldn’t you think? Revenue has gone up by 44% compared to the Quarter 3 of 2004.
Now, the shocker for all eBay employees was, when we were informed today, no bonuses would be paid to any of us, as we didn’t reach our targets for last Quarter, but also, the company is not going to share with us what our target was! BULLSHIT!!! They are pissing me off big time!!

But isn’t eBay one of the richest and most sucessfull companies in the world? And they are not even paying any bonuses??????

@eBay... I used to work for a very famous and prestigious American company (I won’t say its name though). I can assure you that they never say they reach their targets so that variable payings to the employees are never 100% of the expected!

Which company makes Viagra? What about them? Do they achieve their goals?

Well, I have never got any bonuses. No matter how big company I have worked.

Neither did I. I guess all big-shots think that we are like robots and we don’t need any. I’m telling you that there is no justice.

i never got any bonus except for a xmas dinner every year when I worked in Spain. I got one this year here in Austria tho - I think it’s rather common here :)

I work in the US for British Petroleum (though it’s called just “bp” now). (Its brand, latest version, is a helios, a flower-shaped thing comprised of green, gold and white, warped quadrilateral “petals,” symbolizing alternative [to oil] energy sources. It is popularly, though hushedly, known in company back rooms as the “big petunia.”)
For the record, bp’s compensation and bonus programs (programmes, in Brit-speak) are eminenly fair and generous. BP’s relatively young chief executive, John Browne**, is responsible for this – he is veritably a visionary businessman, totally devoted to the company and truly, personally concerned about its success, reputation and personnel. I believe that after he retires in a few years (a search for a successor is being held, even as we speak), bp will retrench into the typical corporate format, rewarding only those at the top, whether or not they produce profits and long-term company growth.
** “Lord” John Brown is what they call him in England but, here, we by law do not have any royalty – except for the aristocracy of private-sector productive achievement. (And, of course, Elvis Presley... The King of rock & roll!)

Well with my company, in the last years they have always paid full bonuses. It is the first time since they started to pay bonuses that we didn’t get one. In the past, they have paid 28 bonuses already. Now that the company is doing better than ever before, we didn’t get any!
Jud (moderator) said on January 24, 2005 14:40:
well that’s what happens when you start to get bonuses, you get used to it ;)
Companies do not have to give bonuses, the only thing they have to do is pay you a salary xx times as established by law + social health + taxes on your behalf (in some cases you have to pay that yourself)... so well, it all depends on the guy sitting above playing god ;)

Is it true that this company only imploys foreigners so they can pay these peoples the minimum wage? EBAY, are you poorly paid?

Ah! Disenchantment with one’s employer. Welcome, my friend. This should be the beginning of a long and frustrating relationship with The Man. Don’t forget to pick up your complimentary bag of dog poo on the way out the door.
