Disaster in Asia

As you all know a big disaster has happened in Asia.
I would like to express my feelings for the victims over there.
What I have seen on tv is really horrible!!
If you see and hear the number of deaths, it is incredible.
Hopefully everybody in western countrys give money for Asia, since they really need it to build up their life again.
For Dutch people: You can send money to Giro 555
to help the victims of the disaster.
Let’s show we care about other people!!

yes indeed it is horrible and sad :(
It feels horrible not to be able to help - except donating money or clothes or whatever - just sit here and watch :(
Two friends of mine were in Thailand, one answered to my sms inmediately, telling that she and her wife were fine. It took a longer while to locate the other girl and her family but they are safe now. :O

I was watching Good Day America (or whatever it’s called) and the recommendations from everyone there as well as a few other news sources (on the radio too):
Send cash to these orginizations that are doing disaster relief:
UNICEF
International Red Cross
United Way
And others that are doing the aid. It’s cheaper than trying to send a “Relief Package” (blankets, clothes, food, etc and you don’t have to go through your country’s security. Ours has gotten to be a pain in the ass since 9-11). More bang for your buck kind of thing.

Does anyone know how some of our fellow TDR members from the areas affected are doing? The only one I can remember right now is Majdy– is she alright?
hotblooder said on December 30, 2004 01:30:
I hope Majdy is doing right because she lives in Sulawesi (Some of land in my country). Tsunami’s disaster was fighted at Banda Aceh and North Sumatra and some island near them. And I was lived in Java land, thank’s God i’m alright.

I talked with my Swedish friend yesterday, she got home with her family yesterday morning, pfffff, was she shocked, she said that she’s glad she’s alive, she and her family, and that what’s bad is what they left behind, the people who live in the area have nothing left standing :(
I get pissed at some tv’s, they keep saying “ooh poor tourists they lost everything, suitcase, clothes..” *grrrrrr* so what? as my friend said, they are alive, that’s what counts, she gave rats about her small properties. The local people lost their homes, all their had!!! There was an idiot on TV complaining that her daughter was in Thailand and couldn’t fly home, she wasn’t even in any affected area, the idiot only complained about the delay *grrrrrrr*
harriej said on December 30, 2004 09:37:
Actually I do not know how many people from TDR are from that area. But if you see the updates of the numbers of death (growing day by day), we really may consider ourselves as very lucky that we are not living there.
I really hope that the number of deaths doesn’t go up too much anymore, because it is already astonishing high (every dead is one too much).
What worries me too, is the fact that clean drinking water and medicines and other health care is hardly available there, which can cause deadly diseases.
harriej said on December 30, 2004 16:03:
Already over 100.000 deaths and numerous wounded. Where does it stop?
coyboyusa said on December 30, 2004 18:18:
well with alot of the disaster areas being hard to reach and the international aid effort going slow becuase they want it to be organized, your garanteed to see maybe close to 500,000 dead. u have to rember theres are sum on the most inpoverished areas in the world, these minial infrastruicture to begin with and the trsunami wiped alot of them out, i just hope the media stops this stupid competition over who’s giving the most aid and just work hard to get the whole world inviolves, we’ve never faced anything like this before

It really is quite distressing to read how many people have lost friends and family and people who just have not heard from people over there, must be an awful time they are going through just waiting for the information.
A friend of mine in Wales is waiting for information on his cousin who was on holiday there till the end of January...
Majdy said on January 3, 2005 09:05:
I am from Indonesia, the country who lost the life most than any others. more than 80.000 are killed in this disaster :(
I just couldn’t help watching TV anymore. Everyday I saw dead bodies, people crying and kids who became orphan.
I just hope that things will get better soon. I feel sorry for what happen in other country too..
This is the saddest year in Asia, espesially in my country...
@Roxlander and Anarem : thank you for your attention, I am fine now. Just still sad and sorrow for what happen to poor people in my country and others...
Roxlander said on January 3, 2005 14:03:

I go back to work on Wednesday and seeing as where I work always liked to raise money for charity am hoping I can arrange some kind of charity event if I ask the bosses, I am sure they will be up for it, unless of course someone suggests it tomorrow but I ain’t back tomorrow as it will be my day off.... going off what we have raised before I think we could raise around £1000 with some kind of charity event... every bit helps!
Majdy said on January 4, 2005 02:35:
I’d like to say thank you for your sympathy and prayer and everything! People in Aceh and other country will apreciate that!
Today I tried to think the bright side of what happen in Aceh. It was hard to think of one when you see so many people were died (including my co worker’s internet friend).
But I think I found it. Before the disaster, there were war going on there. but now it was just stop like that! and the people even help each other! so I hope it will continue like that. I hope what happen now there make the people even more realize of how worth life is...
@ally and little spooky: thank u, guys!!
@roxlander : I will email you soon!!! sorry it took so long! merry christmas and happy new year...

hotblooder said on January 5, 2005 06:44:
Hey, I told you Majdy is alright...!!! She lives far away from Sumatra land.
ally77 said on January 5, 2005 20:33:
Well I spoke with my boss today and he said it was a good idea what I suggested (at last it seems I can do something right) he was surprised no one already suggested it but the lady that normally does the fundraising stuff is off sick...
Anyway we are gonna hold a dress down day so everyone will pay £2 if they want a day out of uniform and organise a raffle with people donating stuff they don’t want (good time of the year after xmas) so I hope we will raise a lot of money to send! I am starting to plan it tomorrow and we shall hold it next Friday 14th. I think we are trying to get two of the team leaders to shave off there beards to raise money also... it’s great that everyone can pull togeather...
I see on eBay people are selling things to raise money, a woman in the north west is offering to make a three course meal for someone and the money will go to the Tsunami appeal!
harriej said on January 6, 2005 19:05:
Today there is a big TV-show in the Netherlands, shown all evening on 3 major channels (NL2, RTL 4 and SBS 6) with the goal to collect as much money as possible for the countrys that were hit during the tsunami. (Not only asia, but also somalia, kenya and tanzania were hit).
Let’s hope it will become a huge succes.
