CSI’s William Petersen has put into Gil Grissom a lot of the analytical and vulnerable qualities displayed by investigator Will Graham in the film “Manhunter” (in which Petersen portrayed Will Graham). In this movie, which was the original, and far better, film adaptation of the book “Red Dragon,” Graham absorbed all of the evidence at a crime scene and drew conclusions about the perpetrator therefrom... much as Grissom and his team do.
It’s interesting in the show, they way they’ve expanded a little into office politics and the characters’ personal problems. The first couple of seasons were fairly absent that sort of thing, but I guess the producers/writers had to spice things up a little, to keep the show fresh.
