Europe Music Awards 2004 Rome

Hey, are there any (sort of) fans of the MTV Ema’s around here?
As you probably know the show will now be held for the second time in Italy - Rome -, (the first being done in Milan, 1998). I was wondering about your viewpoints of the show in total and who do you think should perform and get the nominations?
I think the show has been too American-like as most of the live performers come from the other side of the Atlantic and the hosts have, too, become American over the past few years (Christina Aguilera, P Diddy, Wyclef Jean - hello!).
I would like to see (live) performances by such European acts as (“European” being the main factor) The Prodigy, Björk, The Rasmus or Nightwish (cuz I am Finnish...), Robbie Williams and U2. Other possible, non-European candidates would have to be Madonna (she’s touring alright!) and REM (who will have a new album out soon).

not only is it americanized but it has to have one of the most unenthusiastic crowds ever

well they still have european acts performing, and i dont see a problem with having american acts performing either as many are very popular around the continent. What I have a problem with is when they choose an american presenter...it takes away the whole european feel and anyone watching could easily think it was an american awards ceremony. Christina Aguilera presenting the awards in scotland last year was a joke, they could have easily found someone else to present it, but they thought cos she was a big name at the time with her stripped album it would bring publicity to the show

just read the rumoured set list, not sure how accurate it is...
Nelly
Franz Ferdinand
Jennifer Lopez
Destinys Child
Lost Prophets
Anastacia
Rasmus
Hives
Justin Timberlake
So, we still have a lot of the crappy american RNB, but there are some decent European bands there too. Franz Ferdinand (Scottish), Lost Prophets (Welsh), Rasmus (Finnish), Hives (Swedish)

anastacia + rasmus are the only ones worth watching for me.. the others either are YUK or I have never heard of them :D
Guess who has been >2 years without listening to radio... been disconnected! :O Guess why my discography is growing with OLD music..

Judith, if you havent heard of Franz Ferdinand, then you should definitely check them out...they are a fantastic new band from scotland, with a fresh sound and their album is great. Their debut single “Take me out” was pure genious and the rest of the album is great too. The album has just gone double platinum in the UK and last week they won the mercury music prize.
They are also touring the US, UK, FRANCE AND GERMANY during Sept/Oct for anyone who is in those areas.
Their website is http://www.franzferdinand.co.uk

What’s the point of having Justin Timberlake perform at this years EMAs? Seeing as how he hasn’t had anything in the UK charts since the last EMAs?!
animalkingdom said on September 13, 2004 11:57:
@ ncurran
Where did you see the list of performers?
It’s good that there’s only 9 - I think they usually have 10-12 performers...Just longing for Björk!
animalkingdom said on September 13, 2004 11:59:
@ RoxHard
Maybe he’ll have a new album out soon... Just like Destiny’s Child!
Anyway, aren’t they going to have Robbie Williams there.. He’s releasing Greatest Hits and, to be honest, has he EVER skipped the EMAs???
ncurran said on September 13, 2004 14:54:
animalkingdom, i cant even remember where i read it now, i was on the internet for hours yesterday...although wherever it was i’m sure it just said it was rumoured, dont take this as 100% confirmed...

Robbie Williams is a Cocky A-hole, an ex-boyband reject. I remember watching him on MTV cribs and on Jay Leno, and wanting to puke. Sorry, thats what i think.
And the only difference between American MTV awards and European is that instead of having just American Crap music you now, in addition to that, have a bunch of Americanized-style European crap
animalkingdom said on September 24, 2004 14:41:
Apparently MTV is trying to make it more “European” this year: guess the criticism has got thru!! :)
I’d suggest they’d ASK Marie & Per to make an appearance at the show!

@ Animal Kingdom; how did you manage to tripple-post at 3 seperate times? Or were you not sure the message would get thru first time around? ;-)
animalkingdom said on September 26, 2004 10:52:
Oh sorry... Just now realized... Anyway, this computer is somewhat damaged and the Internet isn’t working so smoothly. I remember it taking a while before posting the message - think it went even off-line at one point...
animalkingdom said on October 6, 2004 11:32:

I think its really bad, they has been alot of the same problem with the MOBO awards, most of the nominies where from US and performers and they didnt even show up in the end ? The UK winners said it should be for UK artists only, they are thinking of changing it from
’music of black origin’ to ’music of british origin’
which i think is a wonderful idea, units britian and not helps split it into black , white, yellow music. music is music.
ncurran said on October 6, 2004 17:31:
i dont like any of these artists....i wont be watching. Its pathetic really, there is loads of good music to come out of Europe these days. Why does it have to be dominated by american artists?
on_a_mission said on October 6, 2004 21:00:
ncurran, franz are good, but the sound isn’t that original...we just haven’t heard it for 20 odd years! If you haven’t heard them, check them out guys. Its a bit art school, but it rocks
ncurran said on September 7, 2004 19:59:
I definitely agree the show has become too americanised....there should be more european performers...though it was great to have the show in scotland last year
