Closet trekkies?

Erm... hi, my name is Anarem, and I am a Star Trek fan. Are there any other closet trekkies out there? I confess that I don’t like the term “trekker” because it’s like putting lipstick on a pig. We’re still geeks, folks! Changing our nickname will not make us cooler...
Denstandigaresan said on September 4, 2004 20:55:
No... I must get into something else though, I’m an x-files fan, but it’s no longer. :(
Anarem said on September 4, 2004 21:15:
Yes, I admit that I also loved the X-Files. It’s a pity that it sucked after the movie came out...
Scully and Mulder in ’04!

Yup, unfortunately, I am one of the season 8 and 9 avoiders. I watched it/taped it, but I haven’t rewatched. (Well some I did. ;)) But I’m in denial :(

I AM A TREKKIE!!!!!!! There, I said it. Nothing to be ashamed of! I also HATE the term “Trekkers”.
I like all the series except the original. (Dodgy acting, shaky sets, ugh!)
Still waiting for season three of Enterprise here in Australia grrrrrr!!!
sfchemist said on September 5, 2004 07:46:
You are not alone!
Like all except the original series and Enterprise. But I didn’t like DS9 when it started so I’m prepared to give Enterprise another go when its got into its stride a bit more.
Anarem said on September 5, 2004 13:05:
I never really got into Enterprise. As much as I love Scott Bakula (he looks awesome in that uniform!), I just can’t get over the fact that T’Pol is a Vulcan who acts more human than humans. It’s really annoying. She’s just a big ol’ Seven of Nine ripoff.
One good thing about Enterprise: I actually like the opening credits, pop song and all. I used to hate it, but after a while it grew on me. The montage of human exploration through the ages, from crude boats to airplanes, from NASA shuttles to Zephrem Cochran hitting warp speed, and finally to a shot of a Starfleet ship always makes me misty-eyed.
That’s why I’m a Trekkie– it gives me a glimpse at a possible future where Humans are done with killing each other over ideas and beliefs and blowing up buildings and shooting children in the back as they flee. We as an entire species have so much potential for good, and I know I’m not the only one who’s drawn to Trek because of it.
Now if they could only show a Trek series that isn’t so craptacular...

scott bakula looks even better in those blue underwear they show him in. i dont liek enterprise, the acting is very very stiff and uninteresting. i am psyched about the rumours of an al new star trek movie coming up, can’;t be any worse than nemesis lol

Never been a “closet” Trekkie. Always been out in the open. And I’ve been ridiculed and made fun of for that. But allow me to share some things with you.
I belong to 2 different Star Trek Fan Clubs: One based on Starfleet and follow Starfleet “rules and principles”. The other is a Klingon Vessle, and they too, follow the Klingon “rules and principles”. Some of the things we have done is raise money for the South-West Indian Foundation. This is an orginization that helps Native Americans on the Reservations purchase wood stoves. Many of these homes are up in mountains and all they have foor heat / cooking is a fire pit. A wood stove costs $300USD, and donations are greatly apppreciated.
The IKV L’Chon (Imperial Klingon Vessle), of which I am the First Officer, has raised OVER $500USD towards this charity to date. We also have members who can’t afford to do things (they are disabled in some form or another), and so we pitch in and if we go out to the movies or something, we help cover their ticket and treats. As they say (whoever the hell THEY are *lol*), “Charity begins at home”.
So, for those that are small-minded enough to make fun of me for this: What have you done for charity? Donating to the United Way and American Red Cross, etc... DON’T count. It’s easy to hand money over to someone else and let them send it to different charities. It’s TOTALLY different to raise the money yourself to give to a foundation. We don’t raise money for United Way or American Red Cross, because the rest of the nation has that covered. We go for ones that you don’t hear much about, or that get pennies out of someone else’s donation.
The USS Po (the Starfleet vessle I serve on), is a fledgling vessle, so we are just getting our feet under us and haven’t done fundraisers yet. We’re working on it, as we are only a few months old.
Also, as Denny can attest to: I am an X-Phile. Everyone (Duchovny, Anderson, Carter-the-Surfer, et all) are all aboard for the next movie. The question now is: When to film, locations, and Do we continue the story from the End All Show “The Truth”? or Do we go a bit different? Watch the ’net for updates. X-Files 2 will be around sometime within the next couple of years or so.
PS - Enterprise blows sheep nuts: Everything that was already established in previous timelines (DS9, TNG, Voyager, Original Series), was thrown out the window.
BEST example: Archer vs Borg. Picard got his ever-living ass kicked!!! Starfleet lost OVER 11,000 people in the Battle of Wolf 359... how the ever living shit did Archer defeat them with a pea-shooter!!!! NOT POSSIBLE!!!!!
And for the record, Picard and crew had THE FIRST encounter with the Borg when Q tossed em to teach em a lesson.
And yes, I do know it’s just a tv show. But if you’re gonna sit down and tell me a story: FOR GOD’S SAKE, BE ACCURATE!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t do the Dallas thing when JR was shot: “It was all just a dream.” You can’t b.s. me into believing in Enterprise. It’s a load of garbage.

@Spooky:
It takes a lot of guts to be true to yourself and to live the life that you want– I commend you. Personally, I couldn’t be a member of a vessel, I don’t have the time or the energy, and I don’t know too many people in Winnipeg who’d want to get together as Borg (my favourite Trek species) and form a collective.
But I do admit that I’ve always wanted to be an FBI agent a la Mulder and Scully. Unfortunately, I live in Canada. I’d like the next XF movie to take place after the events in “The Truth”, because I want to know how Mulder and Scully are living life on the lam.
I agree, that’s another thing about Enterprise I don’t like– it’s so revisionist! To be fair, Voyager was accused of the same thing when they brought Seven on Nine on board (the Borg were unknown prior to their encounter with Picard– how could the Hansens have encountered them 18 years earlier?), but for the most part Voyager stuck to canon.
Put my feet to the fire if you will, but I will never watch another episode of Enterprise. I’m hoping they cancel it quickly so that Scott Bakula can return to a revival of “Quantum Leap”...

I am a Star Trek Fan, too. Prefering the “newer” series to TOS.
I haven’t really warmed up with “Enterprise” yet since the TV channel broadcasting it here in Germany keeps screening and making pauses in between and re-running the show (but I hope they’ll finally resume it sometime in autumn) and the fact that the series is set before TOS but they have the latest state-of-the-art equipment both on board and for shooting it but well, that happens when you film it more than 30 years later... ;)
@LittleSpooky: Wow!!! Not many would take up such (charity) work as you do. I bow in awe.
LittleSpooky said on September 5, 2004 21:37:
If I have to “claim” a particular series, then it would be TNG, followed by DS9, then Voyager.
I think Worf’s kinda kyoot.. in a kick your ass and rip your arms off kind of way ;-)
Anarem said on September 6, 2004 01:28:
Michael Dorn (the guy who plays Worf) has a great voice– he was I.M. Weasel for a little while there. It was great– here was this cute little cartoon weasel, and out of the cute little cartton weasel came this booming voice. Too funny!
Out of all the Trek series I really enjoyed Voyager. Well, the first 5 seasons of it, at any rate. And then seasons six and seven happened. Ugh, it was horrible. Anyhoo, I really liked the strong female characters on the show, even if Janeway was a little erratic sometimes.
LittleSpooky said on September 7, 2004 02:31:
Does any one here remember CHiPs? With Erik Estrada? Remember the BBBBBIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGG black cop, Turner? Guess who?!?!?! Yup... the one, the only... MR. WORF, MICHAEL DORN!!!!
Roxer93 said on September 7, 2004 12:55:
I don’t care how bad Enterprise seems, I’m just glad they’re still making some form of Star Trek! And of course there’s Connor Trinneer (Trip Tucker), YUMMY!
coyboyusa said on September 7, 2004 13:30:
michale dorn also trained to be an astronaut one of the few trek cast who ever had a legitimate tie to space realted stuff, dorn was the corner stone of ds9 for a long time which i liked alot, whe was always given the ” black guy in the funny makeup” role on TNG and i was disappointed. Voyager was good in small doses, i was surprised enterprise was piced up for another season, but as alot of peopel are saying some trek is better than none but its tarnishing the name when the content is basically boring

No... but I LOVE the X-Files! It’s a shame Sky One cancelled it...
