Re: Threads About End of Roxette

I just wanted to share a few points about some of the threads that have been made in the past week or so, about the end of Roxette. This is not to insult anyone that’s made the threads, so please don’t be offended by this.
First point, and a rather important one. The end of Roxette “has NOT been confirmed by Roxette themselves”. When the media hears things like, “Per Gessle is taking a break”, they twist the truth. The truth being...he’s taking a break. So, when they decide to “spice up” the story a little with titles like, “It’s over now, for Roxette”, it gets some people worked up. To those people in particular, you should read the official news threads “first” (e.g. TDR’s frontpage), before jumping to conclusions.
Second point. To think it’s over before it’s been officially confirmed, (I’m sorry if you take this the wrong way) it kinda gives off a lack-of-faith in the band. Don’t get me wrong, you probably love the band a great deal - but just how much do you love them to focus more on the sad sides of the stories? I don’t mean to word it this way, but it’s the only way I can so you can understand - but how can you say you’re a fan if you’re not supporting them? (i.e. Per takes a break, the world mourns over absolutely nothing)
Obviously, I’m a huge fan. Possibly one of the biggest fans in New Zealand at the moment. Because of how much I’m into the band, I have faith in them, no matter what’s said about them. I’m living on the idea that there IS a possibility of their return in the future, or an “official” announcement of their retirement. Not only that, I’m also understanding on both options. For one, being a fan I’d love to hear more music. On the other hand, I’ll understand if they call it off. You do know they’re not the youngest band in the world, right? (no offense to your age, Per, if you’re reading! :D)
So basically, all I’m saying to those who are having doubts about the future of Roxette is “have a little more faith”. They have just as much of a chance in the music business as every other artist. Each get a 50/50 chance of coming back after their current releases, including the most popular ones. You never know what may happen to them (a fine example is the EMI/Roxette story). I mean no harm as I post this thread, just so you know. I’m just trying to paint a picture in your mind of what I see on the boards.
I’ll leave it at that, and quote a classic movie that best suits this topic:
“Always look on the bright side of life” (insert whistling here) - Monty Python - The Life of Brian

I’m still very sad. Well, but it’s still tabloid. They can blow a huge bubble from “I want to have a break”. I hope PER didn’t say anything more.

I think it’s something to talk about, whether it’s true or not at least this topic has started fans writing again! You’re right, these rumours have gone around before but I think this time it’s different because you must take Marie’s illness into consideration. Clearly it’s something that has turned her life around, so the end of Roxette is more of a possibility than it was a few years ago. As for Per, I really think he’s just exhausted and he wants a break, I don’t think he has any intention of quitting Roxette.

I accept the truth when I hear if “officially”! until then it is just hearsay and silly rumours / talk!!
As for the faith bit, cannot see how that comes into it, but each to there own!
Like many others I guessed Roxette would come to an end many moons ago, nothing last forever but what lot of people don’t remember is we have our memories of seeing them live (for those that had the pleasure of that!) and we should not dwell on what might or could happen!
We should all look on the positive points! ;)
