This one is funny (SG)

What’s your new single “To The Moon And Back” about?

Darren: It’s about a very dear friend. It was one of the first songs we wrote together and it’s probably the reason we got signed. It’s a beautiful song and we’re really happy with it. It features the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Daniel: Even if it doesn’t do anything on the charts we’re releasing it to get away from the whole Roxette thing.

What’s your Favourite Roxette song?

Darren: The only song I really liked is “Listen To Your Heart”, that’s a great song.
Daniel: “It Must Have Been Love” was good.

What is the meaning of life according to Savage Garden?

Darren: (in Swedish accent) To listen to your heart.
Daniel: To come join the joyride.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I CAN’T STAND SAVAGE GARDEN!!!!!!!
What is it about them you find so good???

They where okay.... in there time...

LOL, Savage Garden are a cool band. what is it you can’t stand about them!? :P

they were the next roxette and darren isnt too hard on the eyes :)

SG was Great, very pleasant music.
They had their own distinct style, so I hate when people keep comparing them to Roxette.
They were obviously very much influenced by mid 80’s New Order, fusion of synth with rock.

@zaine: I can’t stand Darren Hayes’ voice and the songs are crap. I especially hate Affirmation (I’ve said that before too)!

@coyboyusa: The next Roxette???? What an insult!!!

I have a friend who played alot of their music at her wedding. It was excruciating!!!!!!!

i actually liked some of their songs, esp affirmation (i even bought the single!) as far as the next roxette, well....

great article, funny indeed!! thanks.
I have their 2nd album only.

at least savage garden werent throw away pop like ace of base or that hag kylie minogue :)

coyboy, your derogatory unsupported remarks against AOB do nothing to defend Savage Sarden.

I think Ace Of Base, Kylie Minogue AND Savage Garden are great!!

coyboyusa: “at least savage garden werent throw away pop like ace of base or that hag kylie minogue”.

I think we have a Robbie Williams impersonator here! Saying things you don’t mean, just to get attention! Did you even know what you were saying? Kylie Minogue a “throw away pop act”? You’re aware she’s been around for the odd 17 years now?!

And Savage Garden lasted 2 albums! i’d reckon that’s pretty “throw-away”-idy!

And it was their arragont tone I couldn’t stand! I vividly remember at the time that that Darren muppet was doing interviews saying total crap about Roxette!! I remember when they appeared on Mtv’s Select about 6 years ago. When asked about Roxette, Darren said “Roxette who?”. He’s smug! And Roxette are still going strong years after SG split up! That boy needs to be taught a lesson in humility!

Thank you for reading... extra special thanks to the SG fans for getting offended!

RoxHard.

PS: I know Roxette aren’t currently “going strong”, but one of their member is involved in one of the fasted selling albums in Swedish history!

Yea, that bugged me too at the time; whenever Marie or Per were asked about SG, they said “Great, fantastic songs..” etc etc. But when SG were asked about Roxette they hardly said anything nice about them...

maybe because they don’t particularly like their music. Just ’cos Rox enjoy SG, doesn’t mean the favour needs to be returned...

Perhaps rox were just being polite in which case the favour should be have been returned

Exacly. Anyway, I dont really believe that SG never liked Roxette. In my ears, the studied all albums from Pearls Of Passion- Crash!Boom!Bang! and then wrote the songs to their albums. Maybe their record company told them not to admit that they liked Roxette, just because the music sounded so much like Roxette? But I really like thoose Rox-clones. Too bad they split up.

@Roxhard: I agree with everything you said!!!
I’m not really a fan of Kylie, but she certainly has longevity!!! And she’s one of the few Aussie acts to really make it BIG overseas.
I finally found someone else who can’t stand those arrogant so-and-sos!!!! (SG) :)

I’ve heard people compare “I want you” to “The Look”. But I was listening to Tourism the other day and a friend heard “Keep me waiting” and he thought it was SG, then I realised the similarities between this song and “I want you”!!!!!!!!!!

How can you be a Rox fan and not like at least one SG song?

When I think of SG, Duran Duran and Wham! also come to mind!

1. “then I realised the similarities between this song and “I want you”!!!!!!!!!!”
Nope, I don’t see it!!!

2. How can you be a Rox fan and not like at least one SG song?
Well, I don’t!!!! I can be liking bits of SG songs here and there, but then Hayes starts singing..... And that instrumental bit in “Truly, Madly Deeply” (which, by the way is already the name of a movie, and I’m sure they stole it!) is soooo not long enough. I hate it when the good bits of a song are too short!!!!

so does someone know the reason why Savage splitted up? Thanks.

I believe the reason was that Daniel Jones wanted out because the pressure was all too much for him.

“Affirmation” makes me physically ill... this is what happens when poor song writers get cocky enough to believe that people want to hear their social commentaries...

The only time SG were any good were when they were ripping off Roxette (e.g., “The Look”-clone “I Want You”)... what I thought was *hilarious* was when some Roxette fans accused Per of ripping off “I Want You” for “The Centre of the Heart”... more like reclaiming what’s righfully his, I’d say! Thank God Savage Garden are gone... honestly, “I Knew I Loved You Before I Met You”??! The only thing worse than that song was the fact that they played the SHIT out of it when it was a single!

Glad they’re history...

“Glad they’re history...” I think that makes three of us now, by my count. Possibly more, going by the “Popular” thread.
Happy to know I’m not the only one!

Not liking SG is a sign of being tone-deaf. Their songs are so melodic.

And the 1st album was pretty close to Roxette, especially “A Thousand Words” :)

...

DH is coming to Blackpool this month to be part of the switching on the light... ermm I am so sure a Swedish band called Roxette did that once! ;)

Switching on the light? Which light? (Pardon my ignorance.)

@Euro4Ever: I’m not tone deaf. And please stop comparing SG to Roxette. It’s insulting to Roxette!!

I think SG is just one of many bands infliuenced by Roxette and others pop bands from the 80’s.

We do not have to say that SG would have been the next roxette.
