can you help me?
I would like to know chances single chartpositions.
thanks.

i dont think it cracked the top 100 anywhere it wasone of their biggest flops

According to “TheLookForRoxette” Chances war released in France, Germany and Italy but there are no chart positions.

Anyway I like this sort of Power-pop songs very much (“Chances”, “Shadow of a doubt”, “Things will never be the same”). When I heard “Look sharp” for the first time, “Chances” was the best song for me on the album.

Examples from other artists:
Savage Garden - “Affirmation”
Kim Wilde - “Never trust a stranger”
Nick Kamen - “I promised myself”
...

@coyboyusa: you can’t call it a flop, since they didn’t have their breakthrough yet. If you call this a flop, everytthing released before The Look is a flop.

Try to be a bity more positive.
I usually don’t see many positive postings from you.
As Roxette sing on Room Service: Try just a little bit harder (in this case to be positive) :):)

well on this message board..a lot of them look a little bit negative...thats sad...

@ harriej

If “Chances” is not a flop the world is full of hit singles only, isn’t it? bE A little realistic - Chances WAS a great flop!

And that does NOT mean that Neverending Love (Sweden #3) or Goodbye To You (Sweden #9) fall into the same category...

i am not commenting on the quality of the song i just think it doesnt take agenious to see that it was never ever meant to be a single in the same way fingertips 93 was thankfully never really promoted outsaide sweden and australia

@ coyboy

I think it was meant to hit the charts in Europe - why would they have released it otherwise?

Besides, they must have believed in its potential cuz it, sort of, was the lead single for Look Sharp outside of Sweden.

I think it was a flop. Just because it was released before The Look doesn’t constitute it being classed as a ’respectable’ hit. As Coyboyusa said (and we all pretty much agree), we don’t really think it ended up on any chart - so doesn’t that constitute calling it a ’flop’? It’s still a good song - it was my joint-favourite from the Look Sharp! album when i first heard it (joint 1st with Sleeping Single - which I think should have been released instead of Dangerous).

Not a big hit - but, as I said, I still think it sounds great in the context of the album.

A couple of years ago, I heard Chances in a mens-wear store (in New Zealand), on 2 different occasions. It was a chain store, so probably had specially selected track lists that they play through all their stores.

It surprised me because:
1 I didnt even know it has been released as a single

2 It was several years after the release of Look Sharp

When I first heard it, I thought it was a brand new song, so got all excited. Then I realised it was Chances and wondered if they were releasing it as a new track on a new album and became equally excited!

Ahhhhh! Its the little things.

The point of my story was that maybe it was released in other countries, like little old New Zealand or our neighbour, Australia.

@ Antz: “The point of my story was that maybe it was released in other countries, like little old New Zealand or our neighbour, Australia.”

I think it was only ever released in Australia/New Zealand.

And, I have it listed in my ’Roxette charts positions database’ that Chances reached #11 in Australia, and #43 in Japan.

I forget where I got that info from, but I think I got it all (about 5 years ago) from quite a trustworthy source!

I have the following chart positions for Japan (displayed in release order):

Album Positions (certifications):
LOOK SHARP! - #5 (Platinum)
JOYRIDE - #2 (X2 Platinum)
TOURISM - #4 (Platinum)
CRASH! BOOM! BANG! - #9 (Gold)

Single Positions (certifications):
Chances - #43
The Look - #1 (Platinum)
Dressed For Success - #2 (Gold)
Listen To Your Heart - #21
Dangerous - #14
It Must Have Been Love - #1 (Platinum)
Joyride - #2 (Gold)
Fading Like A Flower - #5
The Big L. - #9
Spending My Time - #7
How Do You Do! - #6
Almost Unreal - #19
Sleeping In My Car - #11
Run To You - #6

If anyone else has any positions for Japan (I’d particularly love positions for HAND), it would be much apprepriated if you could type them here.

Thank you.

Oh, by the way - the Gold/Platinum marks for Japan are:

Singles,
Platinum = 750,000 copies
Gold = 350,000 copies

Albums,
Platinum = 500,000 copies
Gold = 250,000 copies.

11 in australia? on what other planet?

@RoxHard: WOW! Chances WAS released in Australia and NZ.

Was it released before The Look?

Do you, by chance have NZ chart positions for all Rox singles?

@coyboy. On Planet Roxette!. The people of ’Down Under’ have great musical taste! Roxette was HUGE here back in the days.

Heya Antz:

“Was Chances released before The Look?”
As far as I’m aware, Chances was the first single in many areas (including Aus/NZ)

“Do you, by chance have NZ chart positions for all Rox singles?”
Unfortunately, no... but I do have these positions for New Zealand:

The Look: #1
Dressed For Success: #1
Listen To Your Heart: #3
Dangerous: #4
It Must Have Been Love: #1
Joyride: #1
Fading Like A Flower: #4
The Big L: #8
Spending My Time: #5
Church Of Your Heart: #11
How Do You Do: #9
Almost Unreal: #17
Sleeping In My Car: #4
Wish I Could Fly: #62

Unfortunately... the information-well dries up at this point. I also know that both Look Sharp! and Joyride reached #1 in NZ album charts, and that Tourism reached #2. CBB entered in at it’s peak of #7, and 1995’s ’Don’t Bore Us - Get To The Chorus’ Greatest Hits peaked on it’s 2nd week at #6. There have been no subsiquant chart positions for Roxette in New Zealand since Wish I Could Fly.

I hope this is helpful.

And also, Australian chart positions

Look Sharp!: #1
The Look: #1
Dressed For Success: #3
Listen To Your Heart: #9
Dangerous: #9
Chances: #11
It Must Have Been Love: #1

Joyride: #1
Joyride: #1
Fading Like A Flower: #2
The Big L.: #13
Spending My Time: #8

Tourism: #3
How Do You Do!: #12
Queen Of Rain: #47
Almost Unreal: #17

Crash! Boom! Bang!: #9
Sleeping In My Car: #18
Crash! Boom! Bang!: #72
Run To You: #49

Roxette’s Greatest Hits (’95): #18
You Don’t Understand Me: 53
June Afternoon: #47

Have A Nice Day: #62
Wish I Could Fly: #59

Strange how the hits started to dry up EVERYWHERE after The Big L. What went so terribly wrong during the release of that single?

I would of been quite aware if Chances was released in Australia. I dont think it ever was, especially in any period after The Look. I used to follow the charts, harrass EMI on every release and the next release date. And #11 :) I highly doubt it! Even if it was before The Look, if there was a #11 chart position for it, it would of been well known by now and the single would be not that hard to find here. Ive never seen it.

I used to follow the ARIA charts, and still have them.
Most seem accurate except:
-CBB albums highest peak was #3, which was its debut for Australia(all states). In the state of WA in was #1 :)
-Queen of Rain #47 is WA’s highest peak. Not Australias. It didnt get into the top 50.
-June Afternoon #47!!?? I cant remember it charting at all or ever being formally released. EMI here at the time told me they scrapped the release of this single. There was a release date, same with Fingertips ’93, they made the cds for F’93 (which EMI decided to release here in WA with the CBB album as a bonus) and as far as I know, both were never released as singles to any shops in my state. Just like Stars.
Lack of promotion/radio play played a major part in there downward spiral on the charts here.
