°°° THE CORRS
joyrider said on May 31, 2004 14:10:
i do not understand why summer sunshine is the first single out of the corrs’ wonderful new album BORROWED HEAVEN - this cd is full of great guitar based pop tunes ... if you like roxette, you probably like this new album too ...
if you already had the change to listen to the corrs’ new album, write what you think about it.
rock on!
Speedo said on June 1, 2004 17:18:
Today I got the album and I must say it’s great and better than In Blue: more guitars!!!
I think there are many good singles on the album. Favourites until now: Angel, Baby be Brave and Borrowed Heaven.
I can’t wait to see The Corrs live on 20 June!!!!!
Santi said on June 1, 2004 18:17:
I bought it already but I haven’t had the chance to listen to it. But well, for now the pictures are as good as expected :D
Ig_Nasi2 said on June 1, 2004 20:38:
I used to like The Corrs, but now their music is too pop that I don’t like it anymore... let’s hope the album will be great.
coyboyusa said on June 2, 2004 09:37:
its kinda sad to see the coors go father n father away from their roots. summer sun or whatever the title is such a roxette copy its almost sad :)
Sanna said on June 2, 2004 12:59:
I’ve ordered a copy of the new album from CDON and I really hope it’ll be good (otherwise I threw away my money just for nothing).
But if there is more guitars that’s positive sign though I don’t like their new single that much.
Santi said on June 2, 2004 16:36:
It’s very good, I love it!!! This is how Roxette should want to sound like, if you forget about the tin whistles, the bodhran, the fiddle and that celtic accent they put in most songs.
animalkingdom said on June 2, 2004 18:32:
But The Corrs sound Roxette-ish already!
I don’t know if it really should go vice versa!
Anyway, I’ve got the album ordered and it should come any day now... I really like “Summer Sunshine”.
MiracleMan said on June 2, 2004 21:54:
Not a big fan of The Coors, but I like Breathless, especially the back-up vocals on the chorus.
infofarmer said on June 3, 2004 07:34:
Didn’t like the new album *yet*
I like In Blue and different live sessions much more than the new sound. Anyways, I’ll have to listen to it 40 times more before I can judge.
Sunshine video is great!
Speedo said on June 3, 2004 19:56:
Yes, I also need to listen to the album many times, because not all songs are convincing from the start and I have to get used to those.
Still, it’s a great CD. However, I would never compare Roxette to The Corrs. I think there’s too many differences between the 2.
Jud (moderator) said on June 3, 2004 20:25:
@joyrider: I think they are in Wien/Schönbrunn in July :P 60€ the ticket @_o
miulatz said on June 3, 2004 21:11:
I really like this cd. My favourites are Long Night (I just love this song!!!!!), Hideaway, Baby Be Brave and Angel. The only song I’m not that fond of is the one written by Bono & Gavin Friday, Time Enough for Tears. I don’t understand why they decided to put it on the album...
Santi said on June 4, 2004 06:13:
@MM: The Coors? Isn’t that a beer? We’re talking about music here... :p
Euro4Ever said on June 7, 2004 22:23:
I liked the Blue album, Breathless was amazing.
I Haven’t heard the new one yet.
arnie said on June 8, 2004 12:31:

The Corrs is one of my fav bands too, In blue was veeery roxette-ish, so I guess this new album is the Corrs’ crash boom bang

i may actually buy the album if i listen to any more of it...its too roxetteish, so much now i really miss savage garden
antz said on June 9, 2004 08:25:
I used to like the Corrs up until they went all Shania Twain and did Breathless. And yes their new song does sound like Roxette, but in a bad way. It doesnt give Roxette any street cred, if you know what I mean!
Coyboy, you have to resist the temptation to buy it, I wont be.
harriej said on June 9, 2004 21:05:
@antz: nothing wrong with Breathless and neither with Shania Twain!
coyboyusa said on June 10, 2004 16:33:

And the 19th in Benidorm!! I can’t wait! :D ihopeicangoihopeicangoihopeicangoihopeicangoihopeicangoihopeicangoihopeicango!!!!!!!!!
Many people here talks like if Roxette invented pop music... which is not the case, actually...
animalkingdom said on June 10, 2004 20:58:
Man, just because The Corrs sound similar to Roxette does not mean Roxette are the inventors of The Genre, nor that the Corrs are just pathetic copycats...
They do it quite well, actually...
Seriously - you don’t find The Corrs being similar to Roxette? Very much similar, in fact...But please, leave out the tin whistles etc from your next reply!
The Corrs are good, anyway.
Santi said on June 11, 2004 03:41:
Let’s see...
As annoying as it can be, I’ll reply to you with questions:
To which Roxette song do Breathless, Give me a reason, Radio, Angel or Summer Sunshine sound similar?
Why can’t I mention the Tin Whistle, the Fiddle or the Bodhran? Did you realize The Corrs existed 7 years before “In Blue” came out? Did you know they play many of those songs still at their concerts?
The Corrs have always declare themselves fans of Crowded House. Can it be that they take as refferent this very elegant pop sounding Kiwi-Aussie band instead of Roxette? Did you know Crowded House was already declining when Roxette was going up internationally, having started around 1986? (When the big “Roxette” was just a dream in Per’s mind).
I think anyway that you’re all following the bad track, they try to be Neil Finn & Co., not like Per & Marie...
animalkingdom said on June 11, 2004 08:39:
“To which Roxette song do Breathless, Give me a reason, Radio, Angel or Summer Sunshine sound similar?”
- Oh dear, what a meticulous person you are! It’s not WHICH songs are similar - it’s the OVERALL style and sound!
“Why can’t I mention the Tin Whistle, the Fiddle or the Bodhran?”
- It is not evident; if a band plays some rare instrument does not make them sort of rare-sounding... Do you think GT’s “Tuffa Tider” is something beyond this world just because of the ukulele?
“Did you realize The Corrs existed 7 years before “In Blue” came out?”
- Umm...yeah...What’s the deal? They fell into the same category back then as they do nowadays...
“Did you know they play many of those songs still at their concerts?”
- No I didn’t but really needn’t to know...I didn’t ask for a biography, anyway!
“The Corrs have always declare themselves fans of Crowded House. Can it be that they take as refferent this very elegant pop sounding Kiwi-Aussie band instead of Roxette?”
- Sure it can be so - but could it be that they’re also similar to Roxette music-wise?
“Did you know Crowded House was already declining when Roxette was going up internationally, having started around 1986? (When the big “Roxette” was just a dream in Per’s mind).”
- Whatever...Nothing to do with this?
“I think anyway that you’re all following the bad track, they try to be Neil Finn & Co., not like Per & Marie...”
- Awful, do they really TRY to be them? I have never said The Corrs are trying to copy Roxette or anything - - the bands just have got A LOT of SIMILARITIES!
rox-kuryliw said on June 11, 2004 15:44:
ow dear the corrs bore me soooo much. I personally think the a minimum simlilarites between them. Marie is a way better singer in my opinion.
Santi said on June 11, 2004 17:56:
Maybe Roxette tried to be like Neil too :D And no one has complained Roxette has always sounded so much similar to Crowded House...
Actually there are a lot of similarities between Roxette and Crowded House as well, and you would be surprised to know how many points in common there are between the biographies of Neil Finn and Per Gessle.
Santi said on June 11, 2004 18:02:
”- Umm...yeah...What’s the deal? They fell into the same category back then as they do nowadays...”
As for this, you should listen to Forgiven not Forgotten once again... it’s a celtic folk album mostly, with some pop touches like “Secret Life”, “Heaven Knows” or “Someday”. There are 5 ISNTRUMENTAL TRACKS!!!! Which is quite common for a folk album but would be somewhat strange for a pop one...
animalkingdom said on June 11, 2004 22:57:
From thing to another:
The first chart positions for Borrowed Heaven seem quite disappointing...#12 in Sweden, #21 in Finland... What happened? With In Blue they seemed to go at least Top-10 everywhere! (??)
RoxHard said on June 12, 2004 18:34:
But Borrowed Heaven got to #2 in the UK, didn’t it?
And I don’t think The Corrs and Roxette are very similar. I don’t think I’ve never heard Marie rap like Andrea does in Hudrum!
I’m going to see The Corrs on June 29th! I’m sooo excited!
RoxHard said on June 17, 2004 16:32:
Updated:
The Corrs “Borrowed Heaven” Chart Positions:

Finland: #21
France: #5

Netherlands: #4
New Zealand: #8
Norway: #18
Philippines: #23
Portugal: #15
Spain: #2
Sweden: #12
Switzerland: #3
USA: #51
The album is still going up in some terratories.
And @animalkingdom - it’s top 10 in 14 countries (of what I have in this list above).
It’s top 10 in some of the biggest charts in the world (UK, Australia, Japan). And top 10 also in many many other big charts (Spain, Portugal, Ireland, France, Hong Kong). It is also on the US Billboard chart! And, most albums tend to enter low and then go higher on that chart - so it WILL go higher! I’d say it’s done pretty damn well, if you ask me!
animalkingdom said on June 17, 2004 20:22:
@ RoxHard
I would say that is rather disappointing by The Corrs’ standards...
However, the album is very good: been listening to it a lot the last few days...
Favourite songs at the moment are Borrowed Heaven, Long Night, HumDrum (though the chorus is terrible!) and Summer Sunshine... I can’t believe Angel would be released as a single! Awful! ;P
RoxHard said on June 18, 2004 21:20:
The album is actually doing pretty well. It looks like it’s going to go higher in some of those charts (looks like going Top 10 in Japan this week). It’s pretty much on a par with In Blue.
Speedo said on June 24, 2004 17:25:
I saw The Corrs live last Sunday in Belgium in a mini concert. They were great! As usual!!!
They played a mixture of new and old songs.
“Angel” was great and also “Ruby Tuesday” was one of my favourites!!!
Speedo
Looking forward to the next concert in Brussels and then going to Rotterdam! :-)
RoxHard said on June 30, 2004 23:04:
@ Speedo - I agree so much!! I seen them last night, and I can’t come up with a suitable way of saying they were surreally wonderful!
God! I just don’t know where to begin! Well... my highpoints were Radio and Borrowed Heaven. They were all fantastic - especially Caroline banging away on those huge African drums!! They were just great. I’m still getting over it!
RoxHard said on June 30, 2004 23:18:
@ animalkingdom - what a melicious person you are:
Quote from your post (first on this page)
(someone you are quoting) “Why can’t I mention the Tin Whistle, the Fiddle or the Bodhran?”
(your response)- It is not evident; if a band plays some rare instrument does not make them sort of rare-sounding... Do you think GT’s “Tuffa Tider” is something beyond this world just because of the ukulele? “
I think their debut Forgiven Not Forgotten is pretty rare enough. I still have not heard anything as distinctive as songs like Erin Shore, Forgiven Not Forgotten & Toss The Feathers. Even obvious pop-songs like The Right Time & Closer do not sound anything like Roxette - or anything else for that matter.
The person you were quoting was obviously embarking on discussing this album. I’m getting pretty sick of people shooting their mouth off, without being informed first.
Thank you,
RoxHard.

the song and album r going nowher eher in the usa not really surprised :(
coyboyusa said on July 1, 2004 17:43:
forgiven, not forgotten is like the cranberries debut album, true to their roots before the mainstream pushed them to change for a broader market
Jud (moderator) said on July 1, 2004 17:49:
yeah they are in Vienna.. but who pays 60 euro to see them????
harriej said on July 1, 2004 18:33:
everybody who likes their music and thinks it is worth it off course. (the fans)
Same question can be answered for every other band (including Roxette).
Real fans are willing to pay that amount of money to see them play.
Jud (moderator) said on July 1, 2004 21:06:
well I would even think it twice before buying a ticket to see Roxette live for 60€ ;)
RoxHard said on July 2, 2004 00:30:
Coyboyusa: “The song and album are not really going anywhere here in the USA, I’m not surprised.”
Ha!
According the the RIAA:
FORGIVEN NOT FORGOTTEN - GOLD
TALK ON CORNERS (Special Edition) - GOLD
IN BLUE - PLATINUM
As for Borrowed Heaven... let’s just wait and see, shall we?
And as for that Cranberries remark - I don’t know where to begin. Like... even Shania Twain changed her image/sound once doors started opening up for her internationally! I don’t really think it has very much to do with the artist. I’d imagine it’s the record company hounding the artist to make their sound more universal. Just look at Dido - her first album contained some moments of inspired genius (Honestly OK, Take My Hand, Slide), but then fame beckoned - and we’re left with bland rubbish like Life For Rent! It’s not surprising!
RoxHard said on July 2, 2004 00:35:
@ judith... 60euro’s is worth it! Seriously! I have never heard a sound so magnificant as The Corrs were on Tuesday! it’ll be an experience I’ll remember for a long time. God... I’m just wishing I brought some sort of video camera (I was just 4 rows down!) - so I could really treasure it! It was so, so, so, so amazing - their ’Unplugged’ album does not do them justice! They were so amazing!
And... all this from a guy who thought, just 2 months ago, that I was getting sick of them! all you guys who remained loyal fans throughout their career - you’re gonna be in for such a treat!

I like the album. I don’t know if you are aware that the album is dedicated to their mother Jean who died not so long ago. Angel is specifically about her. It’s ok to like something and it’s ok to dislike something. We all have our own individual tastes.

No song really stood out melodically for me... kind of bland. No big melody explosions :(

As far as Chart positions... who cares
