Twister!

For the third time this week the Tornado sirens blared to warn us to get to safety. Last Monday we were the closest to being beset by nastiness. Thursday everyone had to take shelter in the bathrooms at work.
This is a very active year here in the Midwest for tornadic threats (20-30 were out and about just last night in a number of states)
Anyone else bedevilled by tornadoes? We never hear about other countries that have them. Just curious about the weather in other countries.

Everything here was fine. Lots of damage, especially to the trees around here and last Monday/Tuesday I was without electricity for about 19 hours.
It can be rather worrisome though. I don’t have a basement, generally the safest place to go, so I end up going to a friend’s house to ride out the warning. It all depends on where the weather goes. Gotta keep the ears on the radio and listen to where the conditions are developing.
I heard on the news there were about a hundred tornadoes in the US over the weekend and one Indiana town was pretty well destroyed. 3 people died in the storms Saturday night in northwest Missouri.

well MM I hope all is good with you and it all holds out over there. I’ll be thinking of you! (don’t you dare make that sexual in anyway shape or form...!)

I wasn’t thinking that util you sais NOT to!
Yeah, the major stormage was about an hour west of me. I live in north central Missouri *pulls down map of the US* west of my hometown Hannibal (Boyhood Home of Mark Twain—I get a residual check from the tourism commission everytime I mention that).
Generally wjen we get a warning, sirens go off in town, I turn to the news and listen to where it’s heading and adjust my level of panic accordingly.
I had a friend that was moving her stuff from Texas to Hannibal (Boyhood Home of Mark Twain—ka-ching) and she got caught in the middle of a storm last night. She had to get off the road and get to shelter.
The midwest US is the prime spots for tornadoes. When ot gets warm here and a cold front moves in, they meet and voilà! Ready for a twister. It can be nerve wracking, but if you watch and pay attention to the storm, you’ll be safe. It does seem there’s a lot more in the area this year.

SLC had one back in 99 (explain a tornado in a mountain valley).
One death, much damage, STRONG disbelief.... and fear that it might actually happen again.

I saw on the news this morning that there was a rare tornado somewhere in Germany yesterday.

You wanted to know about other countries. Australia gets hurricanes/tornados (but we call ’em cyclones) in the tropical north. I live not far from Sydney (If you know where that is). Nothin’ ever happens here weather wise, which is probably a good thing by the sound of it. The last REALLY bad cyclone they had up north was in 1974. (Cyclone Tracey)

Yes there was a tornado in Germany. During the last days it was very windy but that tornado was something special. Usually we don’t have any. Must have been scary for these people as we only know tornados, twister, etc. from the news on tv.

I hadn’t heard if anyone was hurt, but the report did say that it was sudden and quite surprising. There was a shot of an older woman coming out of a house amid the debris. It must have been something.

MM I hope you are ok!
we never experience anything so bad here, closest thing I’ve experienced was the storm of 87 and even then I was only a month old... :S
