So Called Chaos Rocks!!!
Small-talker said on May 15, 2004 16:11:
I just bought Alanis Morisettes new album So Called Chaos yesterday! It definitely is the best thing she’s ever done. I;m listening to Doth I Protest Too Much right now!
1. Eight Easy Steps *****
2. Out Is Thru ****
3. Excuses ****
4. Doth I Protest Too Much *****
5. Knees Of My Bees *****
6. So Called Chaos *****
7. Not All Me *****
8. This Grudge ***
9. Spineless **
10. Everything ***
I’ve given the tracklisting grades (5 *’s = best!) Spineless is the only bad song. The rest is pure class! Please don’t waste any time buying it!!!
Although I’ve liked every Alanis album - this definitely is the best!
Jagged Little Pill: Great, but very demo-y
Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie: Good, but a lot of it is bad
Under Rug Swept: some of it was just a bit too fruity for me!
So Called Chaos is like a mixture of all her albums ever! It has the roughness of Jagged (Excuses), the hardness of Supposed (So Called Chaos, Eight Easy Steps) and the georgousness of Under (Not All Me, Knees Of My Bees). It is the perfect AM album!
I seriously can’t wait for all you guys to hear it! I’m so excited for you!!!

this long and only 10 tracks. everything is jusat like thank you its a boring lullaby
Small-talker said on May 15, 2004 17:55:
Yes... it has 10 tracks coyboy...
What is wrong eith you people? Supposed comes out - and everyone moans that she has 17 tracks on an album (’too long’ you all said!). Now she has 10 tracks and now you’re all ’it’s too short’.
Make up your minds!

Small-talker: FINALLY! Someone who’s actually LISTENED to the album.
Got any recommendations? I’m on the fence about buyin it... Do I or Don’t I? I like her music.
“Angry Chick Music” :-D
Small-talker said on May 15, 2004 23:36:
Littlespooky: yes! buy it!
I don’t see myself as a huge AM fan, I see some of her albums as being quite ’sketchy’ (as in, there are some really good tracks, and some really bad tracks). But I would definitely recommend this album! It has some of her nicest songs ever, and some of her angriest aswell!
Lyrics to the title track, So Called Chaos:
Deadlines meetings and contracts all breached
D-days and structure responsibility
Have-to’s and need-to’s and get-to’s by three
Eleventh hours and upset employees
Chorus:
I want to be naked running through the streets
I want to invite this so called chaos that you’d think I dare not be
I want to be weightless flying through the air
I want to drop all these limitations and return to who I was meant to be
Heartburn and headaches and soon-to-be ulcers
Compulsive yearnings non-stop to please others
Chorus #2:
I want to be naked running through the streets
I want to invite this so called chaos that you’d think I dare not be
I want to be weightless flying through the air
I want to drop all these limitations at the shoes upon my feet
All wont be lost if I’m governed by my own uniqueness
Stop lights won’t work I’ll get home sound and safe regardless
Won’t deem me had if I’m led by my own rulelessness
My fire wont quell and I’ll be harm-free and distressless
Trust me
Line towing and helping expectations up to living
Inside box obeying inside line cutting
Repeat Chours’ #1 & #2
... and, as you can see, it’s all pretty insightful stuff! And the music is brilliant too, with ne Irish reviewer saying “the songs are built like gothic cathedrals”
It’s all awe-inspiring!

... and Kwelis_girl: “small-talker seems to have an enormous chip on their shoulder”
I’m sooo sorry Kwelis for breathing! Am I no longer allowed to defend one of my favourite artists?
Kiwein1: I, personally, wouldn’t call Everything one of my favourite tracks. I think it was a terrible choice for the first single. Hopefully Eight Easy Steps can be released in time to undo any damage done by Everything.

She really needs to get laid. A good fu##, pardon my language, Maybe that will spice up her music. It’s crazy what many years of hating men could do to a woman.
BTW isn’t she dating that guy from “Van Wilder National Lampoon’s” flick? Crazy stuff in that movie. I’ll never look at a Creame-filled food the same way again.
LittleSpooky said on May 16, 2004 05:17:
Guess I need to see that movie to catch the reference.
Small-talker: Thanks!
Small-talker said on May 16, 2004 15:16:
Euro4Eva: yes, she is going out with Ryan Reynolds - if that’s the guy from Van Wilmers... Have you ever listened to her music? Some of it is delightful! Why are you still comparing her with You Oughta Know? You know, that was 9 years ago now!
... and here’s another review: from PS:Reviews.
And guess what? It opens up with “happiness rather suits her” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Happiness rather suits her.
Having fallen in love with actor Ryan Reynolds, Morissette has penned her first outright love song - and Knees Of My Bees is the best thing she’s ever done, an uplifting racket that evokes new passion wonderfully.
Similarily, Excuses and Out Is Thru burble along majestically, while the showstopping This Grudge cries out for a Nina Simone cover. Alanis is at her most fun here.”
by John Earls (a very respected critic in the UK)
By the way, you can ckeck out Knees Of My Bees on http://www.alanis.com ... DON’T SKIP THE INTRO (CAUSE THAT’S WHERE IT PLAYS!). And you can also listen to So Called Chaos, Everything and some other track, but I don’t know what - when the intro is over, go to the bottom of the screen and it says “music: Everything”, click this, and 2 other tracks appear.
It’s all great!
Kiwein1 said on May 16, 2004 21:38:
I don’t like Knees of my Bees that much. After hearing the album over and over again I think it is REALLY great. It’s worth buying it, definitely. Much better than Under Rug Swept for sure. I am a big fan!
I go for EXCUSES, OUT IS THROUGH, EIGHT EASY STEPS and EVERYTHING for sure. NOT ALL ME, SPINELESS, THIS GRUDGE and DOTH I PROTEST TOO MUCH follow very close. SO-CALLED CHAOS has great lyrics but I don’t like the melody that much - a little bit TOO dark for me.
Isn’t her boyfriend also showing up in the video of everything?
TheRain1981 said on May 17, 2004 07:31:
I’ll definitely be buying it come Tuesday. I’ve only heard “Everything” though. But that doesn’t matter. I love Alanis.
Loud-Talker said on May 18, 2004 13:09:
It also has some very excellent features on the ehanced CD! I particularly like “the making of So Called Chaos” feature.
coyboyusa said on May 18, 2004 23:20:
i dont really moan about the length of the albums i moan that she still thinks that she has reverence in the music world :)
Loud-Talker said on May 19, 2004 17:22:
Really Coyboy? Perhaps you’d like to balance your statement with a quote or two? I seriously don’t agree with your statement. And, to her fans, she still does have revenerce in the music world.
If anyone can tell me of any other artist, that’s in the same genre as Alanis, that has made such consistantly good quality music as Alanis has through-out her 9-year long career since Jagged Little Pill, I’d like to hear that artists music!
ally77 said on May 19, 2004 19:23:
I got it today! it’s very good, needs a few listenings.... but one for the collection of any AM fan!
All I ask for now is some tour dates for us in the UK!
coyboyusa said on May 19, 2004 22:39:
well lets see each of her last three releases have progressivly died in slaes. her last top 40 usa single was thank you
i’d say shes on her way to oblivion
purplemedusa said on May 20, 2004 01:05:
let’s not underrate oblivion!
@ coyboy; I doubt if you ever listened to any of her albums... but how can I forget - you don’t like to think outside your opinionated bouble!
purplemedusa said on May 20, 2004 01:08:
Oh and lets go back to Roxette’s last top40 US single... mmm, but ur still hangin around aren’t you?
Kiwein1 said on May 20, 2004 12:01:
AM is quite big in Europe, don’t forget about that - it’s not only the American market that counts!
Euro4Ever said on May 20, 2004 12:21:
2 purple:
Not a good point at all. Roxette hasn’t had many US hits because US record companies don’t want to sign them and don’t want to promote their music.
AM is very well promoted in the States through radio/MTV/VH1
StillFar said on May 20, 2004 12:36:
well look at the US charts...I don’t think it’s such a great achievement to break the top 40...
Alanis is popular, is selling records and is played on radios...isn’t that enough?
purplemedusa said on May 20, 2004 12:46:
@ euro4ever; you missed my point completely... just because an artist doesn’t make the US top40 doesn’t mean that their music aren’t plausable! Verstaan jdy?
Loud-Talker said on May 20, 2004 20:36:
And Coyboy, as far as I’m concerned - So Called Chaos has already gone Silver in the UK!
It done more in 3 days than HAND+RS+TPH combined!
ally77 said on May 21, 2004 18:16:
Will it make number 1 for Sunday’s chart.. I do hope so, the album is great! and it’s so good to see AM back in the charts... ;)
Loud-Talker said on May 21, 2004 18:27:
I haven’t heard anything Ally. No teletext services are announcing anything. So, I guess that’s a good sign - cause some critics still don’t like Alanis. They usually only announce mid-week charts when some over-rated schmuck is doing well! Fingers crossed anyway. It’s definitely sold enough to go Top 3, anyway!
coyboyusa said on May 22, 2004 12:18:
i bought jagged little pill and all the singles from the album import and otherwise. I wasn’t all that fond of the second album but i have her unplugged set. she has degraded into some non-sensical lilith fair embryo its sad oh so sad
and i never mentioned that the usa charts were any sort of marker for success but lets be honest unfortuantely usually artists get broken worldwide after the hit here in the usa as was the case with roxette. alanis is always promoted heavily here but as others have said her music goes nowhere. she can enjoy her success elsewhere i just dont have to listen to her :)
oh and btw going silver or gold in the uk isnt as much as a feat as it is here in the usa where gold is 500,000 copies not 50,000 liek alot of european countries and lets be honest, hand got only i singles worth of promotion, ballad hits and pop hits got zilch and the uk is too obsessed with black rappers and electronica much these days to matter welll aside from the darkness
ally77 said on May 22, 2004 12:55:
The US is a lot bigger than the UK and half of Europe, it’s common sense to sell more copies to reach GOLD!
Loud-Talker said on May 22, 2004 22:33:
Well, collectively - Europe IS bigger than the US!!
Albums sell 130,000+ copies to get to #1 in the UK. Some 100,000-80,000+ copies to get to #1 in France, Italy, Sweden. They sell 60,000+ copies to get to #1 in Ireland, Spain, Norway, Finland, etc.
That’s already some 700,000+ copies! And there are many many more countires in which you have to sell 30,000-20,000+ copies to get to #1 in their album charts!
Remember, there are 451,000,000 people in the EU now! About another 50,000,000 in Europe (but not in the EU!). There is only about 250,000,000 in America! You do the Math!
Loud-Talker said on May 22, 2004 22:47:
Coyboy: “**” from a magazine who’s UK division gave “*****” to Eamon’s Fuck It song!
Why can’t you just accept that her fans here love it! Listen, if Marilyn Manson came back with a totally crap album (which I think is what he did with The Golden Age), do you think I’d be slating it here? No, I’d respect your taste, because I respect Marilyn Manson. Although I don’t like his music, I still respect what he’s doing. It’s only rubbish like Linkin Park that I flame here!
roxtexanet said on May 23, 2004 23:49:
It came in at #8 in the UK. It’s a good CD... I like “Under Rug Swept” better, but this one will get quite a few spins on my CD player too. “Everything” was definitely the right choice for the first single in North America at least, as most rock radio stations won’t touch her and her music is too mature for the Top 40 stations... that leaves Hot AC, and “Everything” fits the format perfectly (especially since there’s nothing with the hit potential of “Hands Clean” on here). It’s #6 in airplay in the US on that format’s chart and #7 on the corresponding chart in Canada, so I think she’s hitting her target audience. “Out is Through” is apparently next in line, but I would have chosen “Doth I Protest Too Much.” “Knees of My Bees” is one of the better songs on the album, but I don’t think it stacks up well against previous singles like “Precious Illusions” and “Hands Clean.” I guess not everyone is a Per Gessle... (-;
Loud-Talker said on May 24, 2004 15:08:
My choice for the singles would have been:
1 Eight Easy Steps
2 Knees Of My Bees
3 Out Is Through
4 So Called Chaos (just to show everyone how versatile she can be)
And the final single (if not single #4) should be
5 Doth I Protest Too Much
coyboyusa said on May 24, 2004 21:23:
lol when did i mention manson i like manson alot golden age was kinda blah but then he’s in a rutt
collectively yes the usa is smaller that europe lol but then again when was this a debate about size
and that eamon looks like an angry little wife beater :)
Loud-Talker said on May 24, 2004 23:18:
lol Coyboy
I seen that you liked Marilyn Manson on your website, and in all fairness I actually quite like some of his songs. The Dope Show and The Beautiful People are very very good. And I really respect what he’s doing (or at least he was at around the time of Mechanical Animals) - he was kinda creating the ultimate rock star (well, since David Bowie did Ziggy Stardust, anyway).
And I agree with your comment about Eamon. He looks like a greasy-faced little twirp! He could do with some clearasil aswell.
Loud-Talker said on May 26, 2004 12:44:
Are people still listening to So-Called Chaos? It’s still in my CD player every night! I love so much more than I did Under Rug Swept! Here’s a list of the songs I like (in the order of how much I like them)
All of these tracks are brilliant:
1 So-Called Chaos (10/10)
2 Eight Easy Steps (10/10)
3 Knees Of My Bees (9.5/10)
4 This Grudge (9/10)
5 Not All Me (8.5/10)
6 Out Is Through (8.5/10)
7 Doth I Protest Too Much (8.5/10)
8 Excuses (8.5/10)
it starts becoming not-so-good here :-(
9 Everything (5.5/10)
10 Spineless (3/10)
What’s your list?... that is, if you’re not all too mad at me for you to reply.
Loud-Talker said on May 26, 2004 12:54:
Ah, well... I think I might have a little conversation with myself:
Small-talker: “hey, Loud-talker, how are you?”
Loud-talker: “ah, I’m a bit pissed, no one here likes me anymore?”
Small-talker: “why’s that?”
Loud-talker: “it wass that damned US versus The Rest Of The World topic I got involved in”
Small-talker: “what were you guys talking about?”
Loud-talker: “ahh... too much to get into now”
(conversation interupted by little sister - ’Stupid-talker’)
Stupid-talker: “who are you talking to?”
Loud-talker: “get the hell out you little.... f*#!$%...
Stupid-talker: “Mammy... {runs out crying}
Loud-talker {thinks}: “OK... where were we. Ah yes, I was taking my medication!” {gulps down 15 pills!} “Ah that feels better!”
Small-talker: “surely all those yanks could forgive you”
Loud-talker: “no, they won’t - they’re pretty pissed”
Small-talker {screams}: “WELL MAKE THEM!!”
Loud-talker: “but how?”
Small-talker: “I don’t know... threaten to kill a puppy or something!”
Loud-talker {deliberates with genuine curiousity}: “ooh... that could be fun!”
Small-talker: “it is... at least when I done it it was”
Loud-talker: ...
Damn, I’m missing The Cardigans new song on the radio with this crap!

OK... had a cigarette and now I’m fine. Or... at least that voice from inside my head has gone. It’s Small-talker - he’s that little menace telling me to write all those hateful things!!
And, now that a new AM album has been released, I feel compelled to make one of my special little topics relating to ’The Ultimate AM Album”. You know one of those stupid things I do, where I ask you to type down the 15-or-so tracks you’d put on an ’Ultimate’ album by that artist: well... here’s my Alanis Morissette one:
1 Eight Easy Steps
2 You Oughta Know
3 That I Would Be Good
4 Hand In My Pocket
5 Flinch
6 Hands Clean
7 All I Really Want
8 Thank U
9 One
10 Knees Of My Bees
11 Ironic
12 Offer
13 So-Called Chaos
14 That Particular Time
15 Your House
... a lot of great stuff left off, but I feel I have all the essential tracks there...
Loud-Talker said on May 26, 2004 13:05:
The edited version of Fuck It that’s always on UK radio was also always on US radio aswell.
Olympus said on May 27, 2004 20:47:
I hate that song!
Eight Easy Steps is my best track from the album also.
Olympus said on May 27, 2004 21:04:
I think Eight Easy Steps should be the next single, with Knees Of My Bees and Not All me following...
Kiwein1 said on May 15, 2004 17:04:
I like EVERYTHING most! It’s definitely the strongest song on the album, followed by EIGHT EASY STEPS and SPINELESS and EXCUSES.
THIS GRUDGE is a great AM-ballad, don’t want to judge on the rest yet.
