Roxette are on the radio for 28 days!

Hello everyone,
My name is Miltos and I am a huge Roxette fan. I have the privilege of being the station manager of Edinburgh’s student radio station and we launched our Spring broadcast a week ago. We are called “the alternative” because we play a huge range of music and break away from the commercial crap categories of all other radio stations, we chose the songs and share our passion for music. Thus, I try to plug Roxette as much as possible even though all the committee and members make fun of me (hehe). So far I have played “Looking for Jane” and “Fool” on my drivetime show and during the very first hour of the broadcast which I co-hosted, I played “Joy of a Toy”. The reason I am telling you all this is two-fold
1) Any suggestions of quality Roxette tunes that will hopefully make more people aware that Roxette are not just the daft duo behind Joyride (i know the ones I’ve played so far weren’t the perfect example but oh well...) but have also made some amazing, touching music. I am really into their ballads but they don’t really fit drivetime, I need something more upbeat (but not daft songs with negative connotations like Joyride, The Look, MMHGP, or Church of your heart)
2) You can listen online to Fresh Air broadcasting live from the heart of Edinburgh on our website (www.freshair.org.uk) and let me know what you think of the broadcast. If you wanna hear Roxette, then tune into “Watermelon Hedge” every Monday and Wednesday 5.15-7pm (UK time) and “Show with no name” which I am actually co-hosting with another Rox fan and it is late night so we will play ballads there , every Thursday and Friday very early morning (3-5am UK time). The show schedule is on the website!
I’ll stop now, just wish us luck with our broadcast and if you are interested, let me know and I will provide youwith more info on FRESH AIR. Please suggest some “mature” tracks by Roxette to play, I think I am going to play “Do you wanna go the whole way” on Monday’s watermelon hedge...
thanks for listening, good luck to Per and I wanna hear Marie news and songs very soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Peace Miltos

thank you guys for taking time to read this!
I like the suggestions, but bear in mind that we are an alternative radio station and even though we want to share our passion for music with the world and have complete creative freedom, songs like “bla bla bla”, “real sugar” and “lies” are not really fitting!
I liked especially suggestions by Marksufc and tevensso (thanks thanks thanks!)
I think i’ll go for the following ones this week:
-silverblue
- here comes the weekend (excellent choice for drivetime)
- never is a long time
- sleeping in my car (i know it’s a bit cheesy but SUCH a top tune as well, can’t resist)
and one of my favorite songs which i remembered just now:
- staring at the ground!!!!! (pretty much the sound i am looking for)
Again, cheers, if you want to hear roxette taking on the airwaves plus some hopefully funny banter and chat, tune into “the watermelon hedge” and “show with no name” on www.freshair.org.uk
All you need is real audio or something similar to stream the broadcast. Oh and if you like the sound of my shows, then sample some other shows and tell me what you think.
If you want a request, then you can email the studio: [email protected] but make sure you don’t overdo it with roxette requests because everyone will realise that i turned to my fellow rox maniacs for help and are going to take the piss out of me forever. Just say things like “It was so nice to hear a roxette tune, can i have some more”. Unless you email the studio when I am doing a show and then you can say ANYTHING you like and ask 100 songs!!! hehe
If there is someone really brave who will listen to my shows and wants to tell the world why roxette is the best band in the world, then phone the studio during my show and I will put you live on air for a couple of minutes. The number is 0044 131 6226667.
That’s all, it means a lot that people are supporting a lone Rox fan in this world of hip-hops, nu-metals and pop idols...

Played “Staring at the ground” in the end!
Today (Wednesday) I have 2 shows, 5:30-7pm is the main one (Watermelon Hedge) where I will try to sneak in Here comes the weekend and late late at night I have the “show with no name” (3-5am wednesday to thursday morning) where i iwll play any requests.
You guys have to email me or call me in the studio though cause otherwise it’s just me playing songs...And I hate making up e-mails from supposed roxette fans cause I am not good at that...
If you are outside Edinburgh you can listen online at www.freshair.org.uk . Help me support roxette!
Also, any comments from anyone who has heard any pother shows on fresh air???

Entering your heart
It hurts
Harley’s & Indians
Do you wanna go the whole way?
Breathe
Great songs! Would love to hear those on the radio!
onlywhenidream said on April 28, 2004 15:25:
yeah - entering your heart would be good. I used to try and get stuff of bournemouth Uni’s TV station, but I got laughed out of the room! Awwwww poor me! lol
Small-talker said on April 28, 2004 15:41:
Erm... why are you all picking rubbish songs for him to play? Wish I Could Fly is a truely beautiful song that should get a lot more people interested. And also... it would be nice for The Centre Of The Heart to finally get played on UK radio! I’m still fumming that TCOTH wasn’t(!) a single...
joyrider said on April 28, 2004 16:24:
in my opinion FOOL is the best choice for catching attention of young people ... i could imagine fool in a teenage blockbuster like american pie or sth. like that. ... would fit perfectly i guess ...
i’d play
FOOL
PAY THE PRICE
YOU CAN’T PUT YOUR ARMS AROUND
all these songs have got YOUTH / SUMMER / HAPPIENESS

it would be interesting if you just chose a couple of very different songs and played them heaps (or as much as you could get away with) and see if they spark some interest, you might get people ringing up and requesting them!
My picks:
Breathe
7twenty7
Cooper
Whats she like
roxmilt said on April 29, 2004 15:33:
You’ll all be pleased to know that a lot of listeners likes “Staring at the Ground”!!!!!!! I can’t believe some rox fans pick it as one of their least favorite songs...I guess we all have preferences though!
I agree that we need to showcase Untypical Rox songs.
Do you agree that the next are good choices (based on everyone’s suggestions)?
- Wish i could Fly
- What’s she like
- Silverblue
- Here comes the weekend
By the way, played almost unreal yesterdya, could not resist! I played it before metallica’s “nothing else matters” and after “babe i’m on fire” by nick cave!! I love radio so much, and student radio allows you to mix tunes like that, it is complete creative freedom!!
onlywhenidream said on April 29, 2004 15:59:
I love Crazy About You. This would make a great radio song. Play it!
Also, I have to say that Hotblooded is a great song. And I think with all of the rock / punk / indie revival going on at the moment, it would go down well.
’..you can call me...miiiiiiissssssssss’.
roxmilt said on May 4, 2004 00:15:
c’mon guys, you launch huge campaigns to get roxette on radio stations that are NEVER going to paly them and I am telling you that I can give rox airplay and expose so many people to their good tunes and you do nothing!!
You don’t have to listen to FRESH AIR if you don’t want, just e-mail me during one of my shows so I can convince my co-presenter to allow me to play some tracks!!
Today I didn’t get tha chance to play ahnything on my show, but I begged the people after us to start their show with a Roxette song and they did!! I gave them Harleys and Indians (they wanted something rocky)...
I am kind of disappointed in yous, where is the enthusiasm?? Drop an email at [email protected] between 5.15-7pm (UK time) mondays and wednesdays. We stop broadcasting on may 15th, so we don;t have much time left...
hope you are all well
p.s. are there any fellow “staring at the ground”, “silverblue”, “i don’t want to get hurt” and “never is a long time” fans?? I think these are some of their TOP tunes!!!!!

Ermmm cool... I’ll listen, anything that plays Roxette gets my vote...
Some tracks, you want to go for a mature sound... let’s see..
Small Talk, Physical Fascination, I Remember You, Watercolours In The Rain, Go To Sleep, Harleys & Indians, Lies to name but a few...
I can’t see to stream your station from the site....
