They only came to NZ once for promotions. I want to see them live. :(

Neither “Have A Nice Day”, “Room Service”, “The Ballad Hits” nor “The Pop Hits” did any miracles down there...As Roxette’s success has greatly diminished in Australia I see a very small window of opportunity for them to arrange concerts there ever again!
Any possible tour would not come till 2006 anyway...Providing that they put a new LP out! :)
Aussie_Leigh said on April 25, 2004 13:13:
Yeah but thats what Im hoping is that in 2006 with the new album, there could possibly be a tour of Australia as well as many other countries other than European countries. They have toured Australia twice - once on the Joyride tour in 1991 or 92 (can’t remember exactly) and Crash Boom Bang tour in 1995
Hotblooded said on April 25, 2004 13:25:
Very, very unlikely. Roxette probably wont tour again period Australia or anywhere else. Basically Roxette are just no more here in OZ they don’t even play their old songs anymore or at least very rarely. It’s sad that they lost so much popularity over the years.
animalkingdom said on April 25, 2004 13:35:
Yep, the possibilities are limitless! But what I have understood is that even the radio dissess Roxette nowadays in Oz - - and they did skip good territories like Norway and Denmark and, like always, did not pay a visit to such places as Greece and Italy on the previous turné.

i think it’s about time emi pulled their finger out & start repaying roxette the respect they deserve,it’s called promoting them & have a little faith

I personally don’t think they lost popularity, people still do like them, they just haven’t been releasing albums as good as Joyride, Tourism, Crash Boom Bang or even Room Service for that matter.(Marie’s sickness has obviously been a contributing factor to that) Room Service deserved more attention than it got. They need a NEW album FULL of NEW tracks, not greatest hits collections like Pop Hits.
Well as to them not playing in Norway or Denmak, hey at least they have been playing/promoting recent albums like Room Service in Europe, its the rest of the world(Asia, Australia, USA etc....) they have been rejecting. They havent played here in Australia for 9 years, and im guessing the USA probably about the same. At least they played/promoted Room Service in 2001 with live performances in Europe.
Yeah I agree EMI - pull ya finger out!!!! Start promoting a great act that deserves airplay!!!

They’re still popular here. That’s noticeable in the Top 500 all-time countdowns, there is always a bunch of Roxette songs in the top 100.
We can’t say they haven’t had any airplay and EMI is to blame. WICF I remember was played alot on the radio, appeared on Video Hits & Rage, but it just didn’t take off. Even Stars got screen time.
Per’s single DYWBMB got played to death on one radio station I heard, dj’s liked it, it got very good reviews, but its video wasn’t seen because of the controversial parts, which I believe killed it.
COTH was played on Video Hits but radio wouldn’t play it and it died.
I know we here in Australia are a long way away. But you would think Roxette and their record company would promote albums here, meaning for Roxette to come here and do the tv show/radio circuit. Seeing that it was once one of their best markets.
Promotion is what its all about.
The PH & BH were just crap. No wonder they bombed. I remember DBUGTTC going double platnium here at least. Who’s going to go out and buy 2 albums with songs they remember all one on disc they already have.
For Roxette to tour here again, the next album will have to go well, not just here but everywhere. Then they should promote it as a greatest hits show with a few new songs thrown in to help sell it.
ditroia said on April 26, 2004 12:41:
Actually they did a promotional tour of the US in 2000.
It;s unlikely Roxette will ever tour here own their own again, although they might come for some kind of music festival.
They still get airplay in Australia, but not a micron of covering in magazines or tv/radio [unless it’s a review, or someone writes letter]
When Singles are released they do get played at least a few times, and the Roxette DVD has done quite well here.
if a new roxette album gets decent sales, they may tour, or at least do soem promo, but of course emi Australia won’t foot the bill.

Songs from HAND and RS that were released were maybe played 10 times across the country (ok slight exaggeration but you get my point) and they need way more then a few airing to gain sales! I saw the videos a hand full of times there just wasn’t and isn’t enough to get people to take notice again.
Basically they need a really kick ass song (which I think neither HAND or RS contained), something that radio can’t refuse to break in this market again but truthfuly I don’t think they give a shit about Australia anymore, and we wont see them downunder for anything other than a vacation :(
BTW This morning Rox got a mention on the 2dayfm morning crew. They got people to ring up and tell them what song they just can’t listen to again cause of a bad memory associated with it and one girl said ’IMHBL’. They had there usual put down of Roxette or at least they weren’t complimentary but at least they got a mention on breakfast radio again :)

Just wondering what stations you might be listening to hear Rox songs?. I only get one commercial radio station where i live and they very, very rarely play rox songs. (Although they did play 6 of their songs when they were the artist of the day!!)
No one seems to ever play anything past Joyride! Which is really sad, considering they had plenty of great songs since then.
I still think that with a little promo that ON could have been the next big hit in OZ.
Back on topic - Even with new album that sells extremely well i doubt Roxette would come down to australia, esp. with the way EMI au loves to promote them.
I’m glad that i got to see them on the CBB tour :-)

Per and Marie
PLEASE TOUR AUSTRALIA!!!
I’m basically a ’new’ fan, became one in 2000. I love all their songs and because I’m a ’new’ fan I missed out on their concerts. I don’t think I would have gone anyway cos in 92 I was 11 and 95 I was 14 and there was no way my mother would have let me go to a concert at those ages. I’m now 22 (23 in July) and I would love to see them live.
Sadly, I really doubt I will ever see Roxette live, unless It happens when I go overseas. Their new stuff is never played on radio or tv over here, they are not promoted. I hear about record releases on the net, never from EMI!! It is possible for them to get new fans as well as keep the old fans if they were promoted at all. I doubt EMI will bother promoting them.

@n-Somnia: What! They’ve visited New Zealand! I never knew that! When did they visit? What city? Were they on TV?

Roxette still have a strong fan base in Australia. People still love their old songs.

In WA, I listen to 92.9 and 96fm. Station 94.5 play ITHBL to death, its always the 1987 version which is nice.
Lately 92.9 have a thing called Radio Roulette. The station choose 3 old songs from peoples requests and you SMS your favorite and they play the winning one. Today, because they had so many requests for Roxette songs they had a special Roxette Radio Roulette. Chose from DFS, The Look, & IMHBL. DFS got 11% of votes. The Look only 17%!!?? and IMHBL blew them away with 62%. So then they played it, the 1987 version :P It must confuse people singing along when they play it, with the Christmas reference. I don’t know what the deal is with stations not having the 1990 IMHBL.

I think there’s about as much chance of them touring Zimbabwe in the next few months then there is of them touring Australia ever again :(
