Sleeping In My Car

will Roxette write songs like this again? hope so :)

Good lyrics, but I don’t like its sound that much. I know much people like it because it’s rocky, but when I first listened to it I thought: “what is this? That’s not Roxette!” But in time I started to like it.

I want something like “I’ll be alright” please! :-)

I’ll be alright is a ballad, Sleeping in my car is a powerpopsong.
Roxette is the best, because they are good in both these styles.

it was the fastest clkimbing radio hit roxette had in the usa before they pulled cbb’s release date and stopped promoting the single

It’s also been about 10 years since the song came out!

which you can’t hear. ’Joyride’ sounds much older - mainly of course because of the production.

Yeah, the CBB album is produced very good. It still sounds quite uptodate. If they should release songs like “Harleys And Indians” or “Fireworks” today, it would still fit.

One of my all times favorite, this song made me love roxette when I was 12. Yes, this song does not sound old, and if it was re-released now as a single it would be one of the hits of the year, I’m sure. Let’s hope Roxette will, someday, sing a song like this again.

It’s a crazy song by Roxette standards... there’s nothing else like it in their whole catalogue. So, it’s not representative of Roxette’s sound at all... but damn was it good! I’d love to hear more Rox songs in this vein, alongside the more typical Rox-sounding songs like “The Centre of the Heart” and “Opportunity Nox.” Hell, I’d just like to hear more Roxette songs, period!

i’d say SDLHA is a similar song??

Indeed, SLDHA or ’Lies’ are songs in a quit similar style!

yeah; and T-T-TAKE IT (twatg) is very similar to simc ...

SIMC and SDLHA are Roxette’s best powerpop songs they have done to date. Period. ;-) And well, SIMC took the whole world by surprise when it came out. :D

I like Harley & Indians style better

’Lies’ is incredibly good.

i was shocked too ... firstly the new sound, and secondly maries ultra-short hair ...

1st singles:

THE LOOK
JOYRIDE
HOW DO YOU DO
SLEEPING IN MY CAR ... it was so different and fresh and still is ... i think it is still their best song!

if their first CBB-release was fireworks ppl wouldn’t be surprised i guess.

I think “SDLHA,” “Lies,” “T-T-T-Take It” aren’t as raw and punky as “SIMC”... there’s something almost dirty about “SIMC” that I don’t hear in those other songs... but I guess there are some similarities for sure. I think you have to go back to MaMas Barn to hear Marie singing with such attitude (or perhaps “Dressed For Success”...)!

Per once said in an interview that he ’went home pissed off and wrote SIMC in a hour’. That could explain the extra power in the song. Like when Marie was mad when she sang the final version of DFS. Like Per says “how to turn anger into hit singles” :-)
edit: I think the story about SIMC is also in the booklet of DBUGTTC.

10 years since the Crash-era... how time flies..
I also remember getting very surpriced when I heard “Sleeping In My Car” for the first time ( well, but not as surpriced as when I heard “Stars” for the first time). I was expecting something more like “How Do You Do!” or “Joyride”. One of their best ones I think.

now I am confused. Is SIMC a rock song or powerpop? because to me it sounds like a rock song.

I think if it wasn’t Roxette performing the song it would be considered rock. I think it’s labeled “powerpop” because Roxette often get that title. Yet there’s so many definitions of rock music as well. Let’s just say it’s both. ;)

Great song with an interesting unusual (untypical) sound! Very powerful with crazy Marie’s vocals.
Hope too there will be song(s) like this!

@Burke Totally agreed! “Period. ;-)” :P

it is a rock song it was on rock stations here in the usa alot of peple didnt even know it was roxette i rember once a krock djay announced it as heart lol

the first time I heard this song, I said “why do they play this crap instead of roxette!! How I hate all this grunge music!!”, then the DJ says “it’s the new roxette single” and suddenly I changed my mind... “my god, what a great song!”

You didn’t recognize Marie’s voice???? :-)

Great song! I like it when Marie sounds ’angry’.

I remember exactly the first time I heard/saw it.
Saturday evening, not feeling well, all alone watching MTV fresh. Suddenly I see Marie with her short-short hair. I recall jumping on the couch and smile. What a powersong!

Next morning I phoned a friend at 8 a.m. (or even earlier) She was not happy about the early call, but I had to share this, and make her watch (and tape) the re-run on sundaymorning.

I only heard the first 20 seconds before the dj said that it was roxette newest’s single....

My first memories of the song is listening to the radio with a radio announcement along the lines of “today’s best new music first...” The DJ came in and announced, “this is new from Roxette. It’s called ’Sleeping In My Car.’” I remember hearing it being announced several times as fresh new music. I never paid much attention to it actually. In fact, I don’t really even remember liking it. Years later, however, the song caught up with me and I fell in love with it. Amazing how tastes change over the years.

I *love* Sleeping in My Car!

Ah.....these were good times when MTV E used to play the song on the clock( every hour)!

Rox On!

I heard it for the first time when MTV had the world premier of the video. On the Ray Cookes show. I taped it and looked at it like 50 times in a row:)

I agreee with Rooxett-atic... iz was so greate thank‘s Ray

i really love this song. defenitely it is one of my favorites. theres sth with this song, some kind of positive feeling. every time i deel down i listened to it and my feeling depressed vanishes. this is why i love roxette so much, they have always been by my side, and it is because of songs like SIMC that i owe them so much!

yeah i remember listening to the radio at work & the dj saying- coming up later in the show we have the brand new single by roxette simc,& i’ll tell you now i must have waited at least an hour & a half, everytime someone came up to me i just turned round & said go away lol, quiet funny really but it was worth the wait

I love Sleeping in my car, it’s wonderful. I love all Roxette’s songs and i love MARIE and PER!!!!!!
