Question: Mazarin DVD Sound Problems
Rich-UK said on March 27, 2004 09:40:
Hi Folks! I know that this issue has been discussed before but I can’t find the post, sorry!
I understand that people have found problems with the sound when playing the Mazarin DVD. I have a good computer with Windows XP but the sound for this DVD only is terrible (not at a constant level). Can this problem be sorted out? Is there a setting on the computer that can be changed so that the sound is better? Many thanks, Rich
Edit: Oh, in case for confusion I mean the live concert not the DVD that came with Mazarin :-)

Oh really... I thought that some other people had experienced problems, but only with the DVD in computers? Maybe I have a faulty copy then... The sound really is all over the place! Are there any computer experts out there with suggestions?! Marie’s DVD (the only other one I have!) plays fine. Any help is greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Rich

I thought the problems were with the picture... can’t say i’ve ever read about sound problems.

OK, I’ve solved my problem! This thread can be archived now but just in case others have had problems (and it was not just me just being stupid!) here is the reason... Power DVD was adding Dynamic Range Compression so the louder sounds were muted making the sound really bad. You can remove this by going to Configuration then Audio then Advanced.
Thanks to Tev and DSR for your replies: have a nice weekend! I’m really looking forward to hearing the Mazarin concert properly for the first time *excited* :-) (Tev, yes it sounds great!) Rich

He he... I had the same problem with my home DVD player.... imagine watching Star Wars with that faulty sound!

Wow, what kind of PowerDVD was that? I’ve been using it since 3.0 and never experienced problems with the sound compression algorithms it used... On the contrary, it helps much, when the overall sound level is very low.

@ infofarmer - it’s Power DVD version 4.0 on a brand new super-fast funky computer - I don’t have the explanation I’m afraid, only the observation! - it’s fine now without the compression... Rich

I had the same problen with Mazarin, new Rox dvd and some new movies.
WinDVD’s sound options had to be moved from normal to teather then it worked well. Strange I say...

No there is no known problems with the sound on this DVD. On the contrary, it has one of the best soundtracks I’ve heard.
